OK, so since Thibs has been hired there have been rumors that the Wolves are looking to add some Bulls (Pau, Noah, Deng, Butler etc). Now the most common rumor is that the Wolves are going to try to trade Lavine, Shabazz, and the 5th overall pick for Jimmy Butler. I have really been going back and forth with this trade idea. I love Butler and have watched him kill my Wolves a few times, but I also love Lavine and want to see his game continue to progress. Any chance the Bulls would do it just for Shabazz and the 5th? Am I just letting my homerism get the better of me or should this be a no brainer trade for the Wolves?

I would hate to see thibs do that. I want to see Rubio running the show with Wiggins and Lavine catching lops.

The Bulls Front Office would want Lavine or at least Dieng with pick to consider trade I think. Not sure about Butler and Wiggins playing together regarding touches and shots especially with Rubio as main ball handler too

The deal does look interesting though and if Noah and Gasol move on then the Bulls might look to revisit it later in the summer. Also Paxson and Forman who make most of the Bulls key decisions are canny guys and if they did decide to put Butler into play they would no doubt listen to all offers and try to shake out the best deal they could.

I would much rather give up Dieng instead of Lavine.  There is something about Gorgui that I’ve never truely been sold on him.

Maybe since he’s 26 already lol…… But for a proven two-way star like Butler in his prime with years on his contract, the Wolves would have to trade Lavine, Dieng and the #5 pick. It’d weaken the Wolves depth and by all means is not perfect, but I’d lean towards doing it.

But nevertheless, these are just rumors. I don’t see Butler going anywhere.

First of all, you say most common rumor. That seems a bit inaccurate. As far as I know, only the Chicago Tribune has spewed these "rumors" thus far, and the oh-so-reputable Inquisitor is one of the only outlets to repeat it. So I wouldn’t exactly call it common. The common rumor is that the Bulls are willing to trade Butler. The reality is that there has been little real talk thus far, and some reporters are filling time between now and the draft with anything their myopic mind can come up with. A few years ago, I would’ve said about 40-50% of the "rumors" held some weight. These days, I’d say roughly 10-20% seem to be rooted in even a sliver of truth.

Secondly, Thibs and the Bulls front office aren’t exactly the most likely trading partners, at this time.

Third, Thibs has stated a number of times that he is really excited about the young core, and has mentioned Lavine, personally, a number of times. Plus, Lavine, Wiggins, and Towns are really close, have fairly complimentary skills, and are the same age, so why break up that core? Give it another year, at least.

Would Thibs like to bring in some guys he is familiar with, like Butler? I’m sure he would. Does it make sense at this stage? I’m not sold on that. But I’ve been wrong before…

As a Bulls fan, I’d rather have Butler than that package.  I’m not sold on LaVine at all and nobody at 5 intrigues me as much as the prospect of keeping Butler, unless Bender fell, but the Bulls are fine at the 4.

But I sure wouldn’t give up Bassy, LaVine, and #5 pick. There’s way too much talent there for Butler. There’s other players out there that would be about as good and would come cheaper. Chicago’s is going to have a tough time until they rebuild. Their two big guys are about at the end of their careers, so they’ll be a lottery team for awhile.
Before I would pull this trade, I would sit awhile until the price comes down.

wolves wont get butler imo but they might be able to pry Taj and Mcbuckets for Pek and Ty Jones

gives wolves solid pf and damn good shooter

gives bulls paint presence and a back up pg.

I don’t see either team moving their first rounder.

Taj to the T-Wolves makes sense as he’d give them the hard nosed on court experienced guy and as he’s 31 this year and in last year of his deal then Bulls may well listen to offers for him.

If the Bulls did want to save cap space then the deal could easily be done. The fun idea would be send KG the other way. We know that KG would not play for the Bulls, they could reach some nominal buyout. KG then goes back to T-Wolves as an Assistant Coach/Advisor with the T-Wolves paying him a salary equal to what he’d have got if he was still on the playing roster.
