ChicagoCaseyParticipantThis goes to all teams really, but I’m just going to talk about the Wizards with this post. If/the Wizards can’t get KD, highly unlikely, they shouldn’t try to sign playes like Ryan Anderson, Chandler Parsons, Al Horford, etc…. to near max to max level contracts. I believe with the new cap jump teams shouldn’t look to sign on big player to a extremely big contract, but should get tons of quality players to build depth on their team.
The Wizards typically struggled in the past with bench play and players that lack the playing style that suits John Wall. Typically, when John Wall goes to the bench the Wizards struggle greatly. They can really use this cap space and put a team that can really play with John Wall and get some young quality guys that can grow with John Wall and Bradley Beal, assuming that they match any offer that he signs.
How to fix the Wizards depth problems?
- Combo Guards; Seth Curry, Ian Clark, Mario Chalmers. I really believe they need some shooting on their roster and some players that won’t really cost big dollars. These three players fit what they Wizards need at the back up point guard position for Wall. These are targets, not saying they will get or should get all three.
- Wings; Evan "Don’t Google" Fournier, Will Barton, Courtney Lee, Gerald Henderson, Evan Turner, Allan Crabbe, Kent Bazemore. I believe they should try to get two of these players. Players like "Don’t Google" and Will Barton may cost over $10+ But, it may be worth it because you can’t win in todays NBA w/o versitle wings.
- Bigs; Mirza Teletovic, Jared Dudley, Derrick Williams, Festus Ezeli, Bismack Biyombo, Miles Plumlee. The common thing here is that they need athletic rim protection and floor spacers.
Those are key free agents that I believe teams should go after than spend big max level deals on Al Horford, Chandler Parsons, Dwight Howard, etc….. Getting one of the combo guards, 2 of the wings, and 2 of the bigs (1 spacer, 1 rim protector) this team will be set and will have great depth to build upon.
The Depth Chart will look like:
- John Wall. Seth Curry
- Bradley Beal, Gerald Henderson
- Otto Porter, Will Barton, Kelly Oubre
- Markieff Morris, Jared Dudley
- Marcin Gortat, Miles Pumlee
That’s a reallt impressive roster.

UnbiasedObserverParticipantI’m also just going to put this out there.
The Kings will pretty much match any offer Seth Curry receives barring he gets an insane amount of money which is doubtful. So you can pretty much cross Seth Curry off that list.

aktripleParticipantAnd I agree with the majority of the points you made, however i think a suitable target would be chandler parsons as he is a terrific floor spacer and can score off the catch as well.
He thrived off of a ball-dominant guard in houston and he could even play the stretch 4 at times for the wiz
But overall great analysis!

MatosParticipantCouldn’t agree more. I think Parsons opens the lanes up. Also, not too fond of Morris, although I do like the idea of the stretch four.
Either that or start thinking about moving Gortat for a small ball big whos mobile. Where the Wizards can excel the most is by utilizing Wall’s speed over his defender. He’s one of the fastest in the league and with that, they should constantly be moving the ball, on the break. They’ll need to play small ball for that.
