Oh no Terry Rozier, what have you done..? Did you forget Trader Danny is the boss?

I really think Rozier has played that well  that Ainge will take advantage and trade a  PG now to push them to the next level next season.

So, does he trade Rozier or Kyrie? And what does he get? Can Boston keep both? I dont think they can..

Rozier is definitely no Kyrie, but he’s proving time and again he’s a starter in this league. I think it will be hard to hold on to him.

Honestly with how good the young guys are on this team I would test the trade waters with Kyrie and see what I could get in return. This will allow Rozier, Tatum & Brown to grow together and still leave a solid veteran in Hayward to guide them. When Kyrie comes back he will take minutes away from Rozier and shots away from Tatum & Brown.

Kyrie is great, don’t get me wrong, but do they really need him? That’s the question.

Kyrie just turned 26 and Rozier just turned 24….which isn’t that big of a difference. Rozier has more room to grow as a player but I dont think he will ever be on Kyrie’s level. He seems to be thriving in the playoffs especially in home games. He is also a much better defender than Kyrie.

With all the other scoring options that will be on this team when healthy maybe Kyrie really isn’t the PG you need…but their ceiling is certainly higher with Kyrie in the lineup. If you want to beat the Warriors you have to be able to score and that is one thing Kyrie brings to the table more than anyone on the Celtics roster.

This team will start 5 legit all-star talents next year.

And then they will bring Rozier, Smart, Baynes (or Monroe), Theis, and Morris off the bench — a bench unit that by itself would not be the worst team in the NBA.

There’s no need to make any trades. The upper-end talent is elite. The bench talent is elite. This team can contend for titles as-is.

Rozier is playing great and has significantly upped his value in these playoffs but I’d slow down on the trade Kyrie talk. This is the one of the elite players and one of the most proven clutch scorers on the planet we are talking about. Would you really be willing to sacrifice that for a cousins coming off a career threatening injury or a kawhi Leonard that may or may not be fully healthy (especially when you already have so many talented wings to begin with)?

Unfortunately, it will probably be difficult to bring smart back but rozier is still on his rookie deal for next season if I’m not mistaken. At the end of next offseason, when both kyrie and rozier will be free agents, than you probably have a difficult decision to make but I see no reason to jump the gun right now. Unless your convinced kyrie won’t stay when he becomes a free agent, which they would have no reason to be.

I just wonder if Hayward or even Kyrie could be on the block with all this talk about Kawhi going, if the Spurs could get someone that proven in return it might appeal to them.

Personally I don’t see Kyrie being moved on or at least being happy about it, he wants to be “the man” and probably felt Boston was the right fit for him. I think he only has a year left on his deal so would be hitting FA in 2019 so any team trading for him would need to think they have a good case of keeping him.

I’d be shocked if they trade Hayward. Irving is one thing, there’s no real ties either. But Hayward chose to leave a great situation in Utah to play for his college coach. Plus Hayward just fits better on Boston given how he plays within the system and can spend time at power forward (Can’t wait to see the Horford-Hayward-Tatum-Jaylen-Irving/Rozier) death lineup in action next year

Neither is Rozier. They aren’t going to blow it up until they actually see all the pieces play together. And with Kyrie’s injury history, Rozier is the bes insurance policy out there.

The one to go is going to be Marcus Smart.

Agree.  Article just before trade deadline last year

The NBA trade deadline is three days away, and the Celtics are unsurprisingly one of the more active teams leading up to Thursday.

Rumors have circulated that the Celtics would be willing to listen to offers for Marcus Smart if the deal included a first round pick. Smart has said that he is not worried about the trade rumors, but those reports were centered around the uncertainty of the guard’s restricted free agency.

Ben Rohrbach reported Monday that Smart may not make more than a mid-level exception this summer in restricted free agency.

The article contained this statement from another agent:

“Happy Walters will mess up Marcus Smart as he did with Nerlens Noel,” a rival agent said. “He has promised him $57-60 million for three years — not happening for a good backup.”

Walters represents Smart as well as Noel (Not any more), who reportedly turned down a contract extension from the Dallas Mavericks that would have netted him $17.5 million per year. Now he is signed under a one-year deal worth just over $4 million, heading into a free agent market with a lot less cap space than previous summers.

Walters negotiated with the Celtics before the regular season began on a possible contract extension for the fourth-year player, but a deal was not ultimately reached. Walters released this statement after the extension talks fizzled.

“But Wyc (Grousbeck) doesn’t want to pay the tax,” Walters said of the Celtics’ managing partner. “They’re into the tax already with three guys who make $30 million a year. If they want someone to take a discount, maybe it should be someone who has already made $150 million in their career, not someone who is just up and coming.”

He followed that up by saying, “It will cost them a lot more [this summer], I can tell you that.”

Smart is set to be a restricted free agent this summer. The Celtics are able to extend him a qualifying offer, typically a one-year deal similar to what Noel has now. This allows Boston to match any offer sheet that Smart signs with another team and retain him. The Celtics can also agree to an extension with Smart before he goes and meets with other teams.

The details of what Smart and his agent turned down before the season have not been released, and while it is unclear at the moment how Boston views Smart in their long term plans, Smart’s contract outlook doesn’t look great.

Possibilly they will listen to offers for Rozier for maybe a pick or a good bigman.  Since they have him one more year no rush. They can even just re-sign him as a RFA in 2020

Then we have Smart who comes up this summer. It’s prbly going to come down to wheter Ainge is willing to match what another team is willing to give Smart. Somebody out West might offer Smart big $.

So do you let Smart walk or do you re-sign him and then try to trade him. I wonder what other teams would give up to get Smart on a 4 year contract or something? Maybe a pick, doubt anyone offers any equal players for him.

OMG!! U guys & gals R so Quick to Jump on the Bandwagon! Rozier has played well. He’s 1 of the fastest players, has improved as a shooter and does a great job of pressing opposing guards. But he’s no Kyrie. Irving’s 1 of the most clutch performers in the league. And has the ability to take our games in the 4th quarters. Thank coach Stevens for being a great coach. He has created a great system that allows players to thrive. Stevens has the team 3th,4th & 5 options playing well. Horford,Tatum & Rozier did something KG, Pierce & Allen never did. They combined for 83 pts. The most KG,Pierce & Allen did was 79.

The Celts are in win now mode — hey, maybe they can get to the Finals and make it interesting.

Do they trade next year’s Grizzlies pick to move up in this draft? Looks like they are one athletic shot blocker/rim protector/rim runner away from winning the whole thing — if not Bamba, then maybe even Robert Williams III.

They looked like a well oiled machine last night.  Horford and Baynes really complemented each other well.

And their young perimeter dynamos were UNSTOPPABLE.

Felt a little like the Bad Boys.

A future pick, this years late first and rights to Smart for Bamba. He could learn behind other starters and take his time to learn the game like I think Bamba will need. He could contribute some hustle and D for them next year. Start working on taking over for Horford.

Rozier is playing his a$$ off, and is a great young player, but everyone needs to calm down. Teams haven’t had a full season to scout and adjust to him. Remember when Jeremy Lin went apesh!+ a few years ago? This is a version of that, though I believe Rozier’s ceiling is considerably higher than Lin’s. Once the season ends and teams have time to adjust, he’ll come back down to earth a little bit.

When a player like Rozier emerges people always react like this: "Oh no! We have too many good players! There aren’t enough minutes to go around — we have to trade someone!"

IMO this is almost always wrong. Here is an important number: 240. That is 48×5, or the numer of total player-minutes in a NBA basketball game. That’s enough minutes for 8 guys to average 30. Or for 6 guys to average 30 and 4 more to average 15.

Especially these days when at least one of a team’s top players is almost always out, there is no reason not to keep 8-10 really good players on your team for as long as you can afford them. There are plenty of minutes.

There are minutes for everyone but i still think Ainge is a "strike while the iron is hot" type of guy. They are looking at heavy minutes (20+ each) for Irving, Rozier, Smart, Brown, Hayward and Tatum at a minimum at the 1, 2 and 3, although i understand they may play Tatum at the 4 for stretches. Smart is likely on the way out, but if you get good value for Kyrie off an injury or a Rozier post-playoffs, you gotta remember Danny Ainge is cutthroat – he would trade his mother for a good return.

If you can trade Hayward for Cousins and Kyrie for Kawaii, why would you say no?

Harford is an amazing player, but this is his peak.  In three years he is a 6th man. And there are zero other bigs on the roster who can replace him.  Enter Cousins.  He has a rich man’s Harford game without Harford’s amazing baskeball IQ and leadership/locker room presence.

Just stop and think for a minute:

Harford Kawaii Tatum Brown Rozier Starting five that can put Cousins in for ANY player on that starting five and maybe get even better.  Plus you have Marcus Smart still….

I’ll take that team over any in the league in seven games including the as constituted Celtics.

Side note, I think I’d take just the cousins/Kyrie swap too given PG/wing depth vs big depth. Kyrie is a great shot maker, but a very poor defender and at his best, easy to expliot on a switch.  Tatum, Hayward/Kawaii, Harford are all elite efficient scorers and defenders and all but Harford will be for the next 5 years.

I love Terry but with a healthy Kyrie and Hayward, and another summer of development of Brown and Tatum, his services aren’t as necessary. I would try to trade him for a mid to late lottery pick and draft Wendell Carter, who I believe will be one of the surprises of the draft. The Knicks seem like a team who could use Rozier. We can then re-sign Smart who offers different skills than Rozier.
