I keep seeing Favors mentioned as the number 2 pick and some have Wesley Johnson number 4…These guys will become servicable NBA players but not Superstars…

Some say Favors didnt reach his potential at Georgia Tech becuz of poor guard play…If the guard play was so bad why is Udofia mentioned as a All ACC performer next season and Shumpert is a NBA prospect? Favors was lazy at times often refering to Gani Lawai who’s a little shorter then Favors but played with more aggressiveness…Favors athleticism could make him another McDyess or If he doesnt become more active another Stromile Swift…

Wesley Johnson’s superior athleticism is what helped him become a star at Syaracuse..He doesnt have a post game and no ballhandling skills..The more i watch him play the more i see a smaller Channing Frye…A guy taken in the top 10 of the draft that have become primary a 3 point shooter…

I agree with most what you said about Favors. I do feel they had bad guard play (Udofia went through an ugly slump after non-conference play and never has been a pure playmaker, and Shumpert is more of a scorer and defender than a true PG as well), but Favors can’t score on his own very much which is more of a staple in the NBA game than in college, and he’s an overrated defender (very foul-prone). He’s a decent fit beside Brook Lopez, but he’s not going to produce like a #2 pick is expected to.

Johnson may need to improve his handle to be the best he can be, but you can’t discount his ability in transition and the fact that he can straight-line the ball to the rim because of his quickness. He also is a good rebounder from the wing and good in the passing lanes on D. I say he’ll be a solid player and possibly a borderline All-Star. His handle and sort of his defense (from what I remember from his ISU days when he played man-to-man) are his most improvable things. Everythhing else is great.

Exactly why is Johnson being ranked so high? He wasn’t even an emotional leader or a clutch shooter on Syracuse, Andy Rautins was. He had one season only that he played at a 1st round level. He is also 23 and I dont believe he has the ball handling skills to compete at the next level. He also isnt as good of an “on ball” defenderr as people think.

Favors is an excellent post defender and also has excellent athletisism which makes NBA teams intrigued. He should be a solid 3rd option and great defender possibly career stats of 14ppg 10rpg 1spg 2bpg. If you put a guy like that alongside Brook Lopez who also operates in the paint his offensive production wont be as high. Im not sure on wether Favors will be a bust but he definitely wont be putting up premier scoring numbers thats for sure.

You guys don’t know what you are talking about. Favors is freshman and averaged a double double with no point guard. That’s pretty darn good. This is why he has a ton of potential. I’d say he is better compared to Al Horford.
Johnson is very athletic and did very welll at Syracuse. Frye does not even play the same position as Johnson. Wes Johnson is more like a Shawn Marion, worst case being Ariza before he joined the Lakers. Marion is great player. No not superstar but Johnson was never compared to a Superstar. He is the #4-6 pick because after the first 4 picks there is huge drop off. I regard Cousins as the 4th pick and Johnson as more of a 5th or 6th pick.

    I think
Derrick Favors will be a good pro, wont be an all-star but a
Solid Starter, maybe average 13 and 8 with 2 blocks
I think Wesley Johnson will be a Borderline all-star
He’s NBA Ready, Athletic, Good Shooter, And is a pretty good defender in terms of steals and blocks

I personally feel all of you are underselling Favors. He’s a very hard worker, he’s young, he’s coachable, and he’s inexperienced. He’s got good feet, a soft touch, and excellent instincts. People say his motor runs hot and cold, I see a kid who clearly didn’t have the confidence in himself the way the Kentucky frosh did (a sign of bad coaching), who was unsure of whether to differ to Lawal or take over himself, and quite frankly, played like a freshman. Not every superstar gets it as a freshman in college. I personally think in 3 years, people are going to wonder why they ever doubted this guy. He wants to be great and he works at it. I don’t really need to know anything else when it comes to being a great player. This guy in his prime will be a 19-12-2-2.5blk-1+stl player with multiple All Star appearences.

Wes Johnson will finish in the top 3 in the Rookie of the Year voting and will average at least 15pts- 5rebs- 3ast- a steal, a block, and a three per game. He will be deadly coming of screens from day one, and will make his money being a premere shooter (no-one in college got more elevation on every shot they took) and a good to great defender (that will come with experience).

Both the guys are consensus top six picks for a reason.

Favors will be an all star…mark it down. Wes Johnson is solid but don’t see him as a big time NBA player.

Wes Johnson is an extremely safe pick. He WILL be without a doubt a good player in the NBA. Superstar? I doubt it. Good #2 or 3 option on offense? Yes. Solid perimeter defender? Most likely.

He’s athletic, can shoot, and has some good moves. There is no doubt in my mind that he wont be a good NBA player. Well worth his current draft status.

I hate to make this comparison, because people will undoubtedly jump all over me… He plays similar to Michael Jordan… Now obviously he will be NO WHERE NEAR AS GOOD.put that in caps so noone has a heart attack about the comparison but he reminds me of him a little bit. Think a very poor man’s MJ… Probably borderline all-star
