     What is Utah’s bigboard.

    1-Parker

    2-Wiggins

    3-Embiid

    4-Randle, Vonleh, Exum, Saric???

What do you guys think is the best way for Utah to go. Trade Kanter and draft another frontcourt player? Pass on Embiid for Exum?

I think Vonleh and Gordon should be ahead of Randle for the Jazz.  They already have two young interior players, so getting a guy like Vonleh or Gordon who can provide more mobility on defense would help.

No, I just mean that the value Randle brings as an interior scoring PF is limited by Favors’ and Kanter’s presence.  Vonleh should be slightly better on the perimeter than Randle due to his superior jump shot.

I don’t mean to imply that Vonleh will be better offensively than Randle, just that the presence Favors and Kanter eliminates some of Randle’s comparative advantage over Vonleh in this regard, allowing Vonleh’s superior defensive skills to trump Randle’s slightly superior offensive skills.

          that’s funny i got a negative for asking a question…

but, i don’t see the jazz taking a pf whether vonleh or randle is there.  any team that is starting richard jefferson at sf is hurting and their other wing starter, gordon hayward is a free agent.  i think they are in desperate need of some wing help.  if exum is there, they should go for it and play him at sg.  if he develops into a pg, move burke to a mo williams type 6th man role for now.  if they are out of the top 4; they should reach for an offensive minded wing or move the pick.  i mean the team was 29th in the league in scoring.

They obviously could use a guy like Parker for many reasons (scoring, star power, Mormon).  I think they would be silly not to draft BPA wherever they fall in the lottery.  If Embiid is available and is the BPA, then take him and gladly place Kanter on the trade market.  He could return some great value and would allow to fill holes and keep a large salary (extension) off the books for a few more years until Embiid is due.

Nothing agaisnt Alek Burks.. nothing at all, but when I think Jazz future I see

    Burke

    Hayward

    Favors

    Kanter

They need another wing next to Hayward and Wiggins or Parker fit that mold.. Those should be their two top targets, if not maybe reach for James Young if they get outside the top 5..

Do you think Kanter is still necessarily a long-term piece with the Jazz’s reluctance to play him and Favors together?  I think Kanter may be a better trade chip than player for the Jazz, as some team will want a young, fairly skilled center.

     Top 3 pick

    1. Jabari Parker
    2. Joel Embiid
    3. Andrew Wiggins

4-7 pick (I believe 7th is the lowest pick the Jazz could have)

    1. Julius Randle
    2. Aaron Gordon
    3. Noah Vonleh
    4. Dante Exum
    5. Marcus Smart
    6. Dario Saric

Top 3 in the 4-7 list are very close. So close, they are practically interchangeable. It will depend on workouts for that order to be solidified. Thats what is for me right now, but come workouts, the top 3 might change.

I have Exum at 4 because I fear he is too similar to Alec Burks. He can pass and drive real well. So can Burks. He’s 6’6 about 198lbs so is Burks. He is compared to Penny Hardaway so he might end up playing the point in the NBA. Jazz already use Trey Burke at the point, and his shot and passing is doing quite well. I think he is well on his way to being our Mike Conley. That’s the kind of player the Jazz need at point. So I’m not looking forward to moving him to the bench, therefore the two positions that Exum could play in the NBA are already filled up for the Jazz. So I don’t want the Jazz to draft him unless Randle, Gordon, and Vonleh are all gone. If that happens then the Jazz can just move Burks to the bench and have him be their 6th man. That likely won’t happen because I don’t see Randle, Gordon and Vonleh all being gone by the time the Jazz are up. So its likely that the Jazz will not draft Exum.

The Kanter-Favours conundrum has been debated on here many times and it all revolves around, can one defend away from the basket against mid range or perimeter PF’s. So if they get a shot at Embiid the same question remains even if they move one of Kanter or Favours on as Embiid as a 7ft guy won’t be doing perimeter defending.

Either Parker or Wiggins if they get a shot at them are a no brainer and either works alongside Gordon Hayward ( he of the hot sister).

If they miss out on the big 3, then I’d rule out Smart and Randle – already have a PG in place and you have the Kanter and Favours issue again if you take Randle.

Exum could play SG alongside Burke and with Burks form a nice 3 man backcourt and gives them another ball carrier option when Burke goes off court. Hayward slides to SF in this line up provided they match any offers for him.

Vonleh with his wingspan intrigues me for the Jazz, he could be the perimeter defender they need and play as a combo forward but top 3 or 4 is a reach for him. So he comes into play if they slide to 5 or below. Plus it gives their GM options to trade down as teams in the draft will want a shot at Smart and certainly Randle so if they could move down to 6 or 7 to get Vonleh they might get a nice asset in return.

I think Jabari Parker would be a wonderful fit. He can play the 3 or even a stretch 4 when the Jazz put Burks and Hayward in at the same time

I think the top of the board would be Parker, Wiggins, Embid, Exum and then Randle, Vonleh, Gordon (no particular order)but the Jazz are so tight lipped that even those close to the team are guessing. I don’t think the Jazz think Burke is their franchise point guard, I think they like him and that they can win with him but they aren’t thinking they would pass on Exum or Smart just because they have Burke, if they have to pick 4-7 and the top 3 are gone. Thinking about Randle, Vonleh or Gordan is interesting, if they take one of them I can see the Jazz trying to move Kanter, they have Gobert and he should improve and get a little more PT , he can be a difference maker on D if he gets stronger. I think they are intrigued with Gordan’s potential and defense but his shooting is a big red flag. Vonleh has great measurable and the fact he can shoot the outside shot makes him a real possibility. Finding out the true order of the draft will make this discussion more definitive.

Vonleh or Exum would make wonderful additions to the Jazz. Assuming the Jazz don’t move up into the top 3, those should be the targets.
