JoeWolf1This season there are a few undrafted rookies solidifing themselves in lineups and playing good minutes. None are tearing it up, few rookies are this season due to the lack of summer leagues and preseason games, but these guys look to stick in the NBA for multiple seasons. Here is a list of my top 5.
1. Ivan Johnson – 6 ppg 4 rpg. Athletic tough nosed 27 year old Ivan Johnson has been playing very well since Al Horford went out with an injury. He looks like a guy who, after taking the long route to get here, will stick in the NBA.
2. Lavoy Allen – 5.9 ppg 3.8 rpg. Lavoy Allen has played pretty well this season, including starting a couple games for the 1st place 76ers. He has proved to be a solid glue type player who knows his role and plays hard. Had 15 points in the blowout of the Bulls.
3.Gustavo Ayon – 4.7 ppg 3.4 rpg .8 spg .9 bpg. Ayon has provided another big body off New Orleans’ bench. Ayon hauled in 9 rebounds and blocked 2 shots in his only start this season. With Ayon’s size and productivity, when given minutes, he appears to be a player who could play many years in the NBA.
4. Greg Stiemsma – 1.5 ppg 2.2 rpg 1.1 bpg. Stiemsma’s minutes have dropped lately, but he’s proven to be a very high volume shot blocker. Per 36 minutes, he blocks 4.8 shots per game and when given more than 10 mpg he’s averaged 4.16ppg 3.8rpg 2.16 bpg.
5. Mychel Thompson – 3.6 ppg 1 rpg 1.4 rpg. This D-League call up has only played in 5 games, but he’s started three of them. Had a very nice game against Boston going for 8 points 2 rebounds 4 assists with a block and a steal. Thompson looks to be an adequite glue player who can distribute the ball well for a forward.

JoeWolf1Damn, you’re right. I thought I knew last year’s draft by heat, but I should have referenced that. Thanks for the correction.
I guess Jeremy Pargo sneaks into the list at #5 now due to his early season play. He’s been playing pretty poorly lately so I didn’t put him up there, but he really started the season of strong.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantYeah Jeremy Pargo started off playing well when he replaced Conley when he was injured..But lately Pargo has struggled and lost his place to Selby in the rotation…Now he’s out of the rotation point, becuz Mayo in the last 4 games has been backing up Conley…I’m still wondering why they gave Pargo a 2 year deal..Like alot of rookies i think he’s hit that rookie wall,i think he’s a borderline nba player..

omphalosParticipantPrepare to be Stiemrollered.
But in all seriousness, nice to see guys who missed out on the draft play well in the NBA, even if it takes a bit longer for some.

PabloFiascoParticipantIvan Johnson was a surprise…he brings toughness to that Hawks team that they’ve lacked for years. The goon appearance helps too

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantStiemsma- 19 Games, 1 Start, 8.3 Minutes, 47.8 FG%, 70.0- FT%, 6.6 PtsPer36, 2.8 OffRebPer36, 6.9 DefRebPer36, 1.8 AstPer36, 1.6 TOPer36, 1.4 StlPer36, 4.8 BlkPer36, 8.9 PFPer36
Biyombo- 23 Games, 1 Start, 13.7 Minutes, 50.0 FG%, 44.8- FT%, 8.6 PtsPer36, 2.9 OffRebPer36, 6.5 DefRebPer36, 0.6 AstPer36, 2.3 TOPer36, 0.7 StlPer36, 3.8 BlkPer36, 5.6 PFPer36
I think I know who Fuenlabrada is going to sign to be their backup center next year!!!
I only embed to make the Biyombo is the next Ben Wallace, a 6’9” Dwight Howard, a Serge Ibaka clone, dominant defender from Day 1, and the reason why the Nike Hoop Summit is the most important game in all of basketball crowd feel better about themselves. At least, they didn’t compare him to Bill Russell.
