Just wondering why demar is 10 picks higher than reke when from what I can see they are both similar players but Evans is a better shooter and can play better D (2 steals pg). Both are very similar athletes. And by the way reke has averaged as many points as rose did last year 4 Memphis

It’s a based on potential, Tyreke isn’t a good enough shooter to play the 2, but with Demar, he is a #1 pick based on talent and potential, and that all that matters now a days in the draft.

Demar is a finisher and Tyreke is a gunner. When or if Demar develops his jumper he will surpass Tyreke. It might have helped scouts evaluate Tyreke better if he was playing his natural position at the 2. Demar’s play is exciting which sell tickets, he will be responsible for a top ten espn highlight a few times in his career. Derozan’s ceiling seems higher, this year alone shows his progression, I would pick him before Harden and Tyreke myself and just hope he could develop a jumper.

Demar seems to have a higher floor meaning he’s a low enough risk for a team to draft him that even if he doesn’t develop a respectable jumper, he still has his athleticism and he can still be good on defense if he puts his mind to it.

I would draft Tyreke before Demar without putting too much more thought into it. Why? Because Tyreke can take guys off the dribble much better. If Tyreke develops his jumper, he’ll be almost unguardable on the perimeter. Tyreke may not be an elite leaper, but he’s strong and athletic enough to handle most defenders in one-on-one situations. Derozan will have to develop his jumper because he is not so quick off the bounce. Plus, Evans has the added bonus that he is an experienced (though maybe not a true) point guard. So when it comes to the dribble-penetrate-and-dish, he should have no problems. Didn’t someone else mention he’s a good defender as well?

    Good topic, drewy.

This is a tough call. I think that Tyreke is a more instinctive ball player – better passer, better understanding of the game etc. Also, Tyreke is much better off the bounce, and can beat people 1 on 1 at will. My problem with his game is twofold:

    1) His shot seems fundamentally flawed. That release on his jumper scares me – how much will he be able to extend his range? My thinking is that he becomes a passable jumpshooter at best.
    2) He can get to the rim at will, but can he finish above the rim at the NBA level? When he gets to the rim he’s got good, but not great lift.

I like watching Tyreke play more.

On the other hand, Derozan’s got a higher ceiling. I can easily see him extending his range out to the NBA 3-point range, and as we’ve all seen he’s just an unreal athlete, he’s a possible future dunk champ. Better offensive rebounder, I see a lot of spectacular put back dunks in his future. He came a really long way in one year of college ball, which should be encouraging for NBA teams.

I think you’ll get less return on Demar the first couple of years with greater returns down the road.

its derozan. i think evans can be a nice player, but he doesnt have superstar potential. for an nba 2 i think his quickness is just average. couple that with his unorthodox jumper and i’d be hesitant to take him in the lottery. derozan, with his athleticism, has franchise player potential. i think for a team in the lottery the choice would be derozan by a considerable margin.

If leaping ability was the most or even close to the most important thing in basketball, then Tyrus Thomas and Stromile Swift and James White would be on the Olympic team. I think Tyreke Evans is the better player now, and has just as many realistic things to improve upon as Derozan does, which means comparable potential to me. If you asked me which one could possibly be the best, Id probably have to say Derozan, but if you asked me which I think is more likely to be an all star, without Question it would be Evans. He seems like a bit of a can’t miss prospect to me, especially considering his age. He seems underated to me, given his age, stats, success in college, and size. The difference in athleticism is passable as well, we arent comparing a good athlete to a bad one, it is a great athlete to a good one. For right now, and the long run, I think the gap between Evans and Derozan as a player exceeds the gap between Derozan and Evans as an athlete. They both have comparable potential, but I know that Evans will be a solid NBA scorer, wheras it wouldn’t be the biggest shock ever to me if Derozan never panned out.

He did more in the NcAA. Tyreke can shoot better, which gives him the edge.

I think as of right now evans is better. but i think before their nba careers are over derozan will be the better player no comparison needed. Derozan will develop a jumper and combine that with his size and athleticism and if he gets a mean streak this kid will become a star. I see evans as just being a maybe 18 ppg scorer. Thats not a bad thing by any measure but derozan will be a star

Tyreke will be a Ben Gordon type player
    Derozen will be like VC
highlight dunks every game until he hurts himself and develops a jumper

Evans will be ready to contibute to a franchise right away, he has a great handle and great offensive instincts. Derozan, if he puts in the work will probably end up being better than Evans, but I truly believe that Evans has a better work ethic and still has a pretty high ceiling and will continue to develop.

P.S. If all you idiots are going to do is swear on this website then quit posting comments. No one wants to hear that stuff. We are hear to talk about basketball not listen to u idiots swear and try to act like tough guys

Derozan still looks like he’s more athlete than basketball player. When I watch him, I think of Felipe Lopez, with perhaps a bit more strength. But, then again, I thought Vince Carter wasn’t good enough off the dribble to be an NBA star, so what do I know? Derozan will have to improve his outside shot a lot to get defenses to respect him on the perimeter. What’d he hit, like 16% on the college three? He’s got a loooong way to go in that area. His defense is still a question mark too. I like Tyreke’s instincts. His quickness off the dribble and his defense will prove invaluable in the League. As long as he is willing to work on his jump shot and cut down his turnovers (his willingness to work at these are the big question marks), he will be a star and possibly a superstar in the NBA.
