If someone made this post already I missed it.

I don’t get what they were thinking. The only player they have for the future is JJ Hickson, an athletic PF who can run and jump with long arms who has limited offense(all though it did improve this season). With Vessly, Jonas, even Burks and Leonard on the board with more of a need they could have taken one of them or traded down a few. Im surprised no one has mentioned the fact that he was at least a year older than most freshman, half way through his rookie year he will be 21, and is still that raw. I feel like they took him for two reasons, backup PF energy guy, and to get Harrison Barnes next year, that can be the only reason they would take a player who is essentially the smaller lefthanded version of their best player. If you guys have any other ideas please share.

i also dont get it They have a young PF in JJ HIckson and its not like their other positions are stacked…basicall what they had to do was fill every position except PF……i think vesley would have even been a better pick…

Cleveland did the smart thing and selected the best player available…

I really believe that if he was 6’10 or 7 feet,he would’ve been the top pick..

There were other teams like Toronto,Detroit, & Washington that already have forwards that were hoping he’ll fall into their laps..

He plays the way a big man should play..And thats something you dont see much of in today’s game…

His offense will develope..He has to work on his free throw shooting…

I swear they are building a team around LeBron James.  Promising young point guard with borderline all-star ability? Check. Backup point guards who can also help?  Check.  Solid wing men who are complementary players?  Check.  Two good young big men at PF? Check.

Tristan Thompson will once again prove everyone wrong. Its just what he does. He is underrated at every level of basketball, but I bet those who play with him appreciate him. The fourth pick may seem a little high, but really without picking a gaurd, without picking a Euro C, who should they have picked? A tweener like Vesely? How much worse is the Thompson selection. I think they are aware of the deep SF talent in next years draft, and I think Hickson is as good as gone.

The gm for the cavs must be david khans brother because the guy just drafted two of the top picks at there most solid positio. Whe. There was a big time small forward and a better center then they got on the team. Baron Davis and Jj hickson are the two best players on cleveland not to mention They got pretty good backups at those positions.

Jamison, Eyenga, and Anthony Parker. Basically solid role players.

What I don’t understand is that if the Cavs had taken Derrick Williams number one, I am
not sure that the T Wolves or Jazz would have taken Kyrie Irving.

I think he’ll have a rookie year similar to Ed Davis’ last year.  I think Tristan was a pretty smart pick, he’s that combination of high upside and a guy who can contribute a bit as a rookie.  I think in 5 years Cleveland will be pretty happy with their pick.

Tristan Thompson is a great building piece for the future, no shame to take the best defensive big in the draft with potential to be fine on offense, long terms it’s the right decision.
