I know, posting trade ideas are usually point-killers but I was thinking about OKC, who apparently are trying to get Gortat to become their low-post scorer. Although a decent player, I don’t think he will help OKC all too much. Another available low-post scorer however would greatly improve OKCs team, and that player would be Al Jefferson. He is available, and OKC has the assets to make a run at him. In the link you can see the trade I had in mind, which sends Jefferson to OKC, and young assets Lamb, Perry Jones III and Maynor to Utah, together with Perkins to equal it money-wise. My question would also be to anyone of you guys, does OKC need to include the first round pick (from Toronto) they have or is it enough to send young assets?

What’s in it for Utah?
Althouh Perkins doesn’t fit at all with the plans of the Jazz, getting nice assets in Lamb, Jones and Maynor (which would be a nice PG for Utah) makes it easier to swallow. Maybe even getting the first round pick of Toronto (via OKC) might further attract interest by the Jazz.

What’s in it for OKC?
Obviously, they would immediately become a low-post threat with the inclusion of Jefferson. I think he will fit in nicely as C next to Ibaka, with Ibaka being the main defender and mid-range threat and Jefferson being the low-post scoring option OKC needs come play-off time. Maybe OKC can even sign Jefferson to an extension?

Is it reasonable for OKC to pursue Jefferson? What do they need to give up to get him?

Gortats less than half the price of Jefferson. Jefferson makes 15mil while Gortat makes 7.2…. that is a huge difference. Gortat is also under contract for next year at a much more reasonable rate and would probably be very happy in OKC and would hopefully sign there long term.

Have you ever heard of something called Salary Cap and have you followed why they traded Harden???

There is no owner owner from russia in okc… Gortad maybe, Jefferson – no way.

I’m not sure why, but as an OKC fan I really don’t want us to trade both Lamb and Jones, but especially Jones. I think they could prove to be a vital piece to a championship team in a few years. If trading one means getting a true low-post scorer, I’m all for it, but I’d rather not trade both

@XYRYX: they trade away almost the same amount of salary as they take on with Jefferson 😉

The Jazz won’t take on salary unless it’s a franchise player. Perkins isn’t even close to being worth 7, 8, 9 million. Plus, the Jazz already have 15 players on the roster and already have depth.

This one is a no-go.
