celtics1982ParticipantGiannis, Durant and Leonard have to be top ten players right?
0- Posted on: Tue, 05/28/2019 - 12:49pm #1133490
OhCanada-ParticipantHa good call. Id put Giannis behind Harden. Kawhi and Durant are 1 and 2 but I cant decide how Id order them right now.

CoachWyersParticipantSteph Curry is my vote face of the GS dynasty last 5 years. League is def going to be Giannis though for a long time.

BlueRivers25ParticipantZion is already in the top 30.

JDB12ParticipantI don’t think there is a player that you can say is head-and-shoulders above anyone else anymore. Between your top 6 and probably PG13, I think there were stretches this season where each one of those guys showed why they could be considered the best player in the world. And no one played absolutely out of their mind on a consistent enough basis to where you would say they are the best player in the world. Harden had that wild offensive run. But it’s hard to say he’s the best in the world because of his poor defensive effort, and if any of those other guys played in the system and style he did, they would also be averaging 35 per game. If we’re including the post season, I think Kawhi, Curry, and Jokic increased their stock a ton, while Giannis and Harden stayed neutral, and Embiid, Russ and PG13 didn’t do themselves any favors in the playoffs. And of course, LeBron not being able to lead the Lakers to a playoff spot hurts him, and it definitely isn’t his supporting cast or coach’s fault.
I think right now is an interesting time in basketball where the best players in the world each have pretty glaring holes in their game, situation, or how they’re perceived so it’s hard to king one without backlash.
0- Posted on: Mon, 05/27/2019 - 3:24pm #1133429
OhCanada-ParticipantVery good post but Hardens defence this year was great for a guy scoring 40 ppg.
0- Posted on: Mon, 05/27/2019 - 4:11pm #1133430
JDB12ParticipantI mean averaging 36ppg like Harden did this year is impressive, but his defense still wasn’t good. Kobe was first team all-defense the year he averaged 35. Jordan was DPOY averaging 33ppg and was first team all-defense averaging 35 ppg… I think it just goes to show no matter how good we think Harden is right now, he still isn’t any better than Kobe or Jordan were offensively, and is a much worse defender. He can’t even be mentioned in the same conversation as those two all-time… maybe eventually, but not even close as of now…
0- Posted on: Mon, 05/27/2019 - 4:51pm #1133432
CynthiaParticipantAgreed, Harden shouldn’t even be mentioned in the same sentence as them. The greatest players have always been two-way players. Scorers that could also guard the other teams best player any night. That was Jordan & Kobe. That was also Garnett, Duncan, LeBron, Russell, Olajuwon, etc. the list goes on. Guys like Harden & Curry may be some of the best shooters of all time, but they can’t guard $hit. The NBA now days is all about offense and two-way players are dying out. I will always pick someone like Kawhi or Giannis over Harden because they play on both ends.
0- Posted on: Tue, 05/28/2019 - 12:16pm #1133487
JDB12ParticipantI agree and disagree. I don’t think you can put Harden and Curry in the same defensive category because Harden a lot of the time puts no effort in. Curry might not be a great on-ball defender, but he plays team defense well, knowing where and when to be and that’s why he’s usually towards the top in steals per game (excluding this season). I’m not saying Curry should be on an all-defensive team, but I don’t think he’s the liability Harden often is.

cohenbc1ParticipantIt really depends on what time frame you take into consideration. For example, Kawhi clearly outplayed Giannis in the Eastern finals, but Giannis had a better season, IMO. I would say the same about Steph vs. Dame.
I guess I would say that there’s a "Big 7" in the NBA — 7 guys who, over a stretch of games, are more than capable of being the best player on the floor. Those guys (in no particular order) are Curry, Harden, Lillard, Kawhi, Durant, Freak, Jokic.
As soon as LeBron is on a relevant team again, I expect him to join this group. But you can’t be in that group when the games you play in don’t matter.
I can’t believe at least three of you above still think Westbrook is better than PG13. Even Westbrook doesn’t think that.

CU.LIONSParticipantAnyone picking Ben Simmons top 20 must not watch playoff basketball. His lack of any kind of shooting, not just from 3 but mid range as well is a half court disaster in the playoffs.
If you can’t play half court well in the playoffs, you can’t be top 20 IMO.
0- Posted on: Mon, 05/27/2019 - 7:40pm #1133439
celtics1982ParticipantThey use him wrong! Bad pairings all around. Like he might be a top 20 talent and might be a top 20 player if used the right way.
Like put him on the Celtics without Irving, make him a point forward that works on the box. With Embiid he does very little of that and it’s a shame.

I realize this is unpopular, but given the drama some of the other players create. This would be my list.

frogmanParticipantThis isn’t unpopular, it’s beyond stupid.
0- Posted on: Tue, 05/28/2019 - 6:35am #1133459
Scrooge McDuckParticipantAny thoughts on why? Or are you a bot?
0- Posted on: Tue, 05/28/2019 - 4:35pm #1133500
celtics1982ParticipantYou talk about drama, yet your crazy high on Davis and Leonard? Two guys that caused a ton of drama. Then there’s Davis your #2 only making the playoffs twice in seven years!
How is Green way higher than Thompson also?
0 - Posted on: Tue, 05/28/2019 - 9:51pm #1133505
frogmanParticipantDon’t know why I’m bothering to reply but not having Lebron and Durant on your list obviously invalidates it.

Lot of room for debate. You could put the top 6 in any order and I probably wouldnt disagree. Theyre that close IMO.
0- Posted on: Tue, 05/28/2019 - 2:10am #1133448
MkadozaParticipantHealthy Porzingis would fall in the 20 to 25 range, healthy Cousins (which I doubt well ever see again) 14 to 20
0 - Posted on: Tue, 05/28/2019 - 4:20pm #1133499
tblazer_NZParticipantDeRozan is at minimum better than 4 of the players on your list.
0- Posted on: Tue, 05/28/2019 - 7:25pm #1133503
MkadozaParticipantI dont know. Derozan seems to be a usage product. I’ll put it like this, is he better than Booker and McCollum? because this is the tier we’re talking about.

Blackhole1374ParticipantIs this for who is the best player throughout this season like who I would I think could be the best player at any certain time? Bcuz Lebron wasn’t really consistent with his effort on the defensive end but if that doesn’t count then he’s definitely still a top pick.

0 - Posted on: Tue, 05/28/2019 - 8:15am #1133465
Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantEven though he may not even even be the most valuable player on his own team right now (which is absolutely crazy to say) I would have to believe a healthy KD is the best player in the world at this particular time. He has virtually no exploitable weaknesses in his game. Don’t think you can say that about any other player right now.
I’m not going to do a whole list but kawhi, curry, lebron and harden round out my top 5. I feel like Giannis showed in the playoffs that there are still too many holes in his game to be in that category. He’s knocking on the door with AD, embiid, jokic, and dame.
