http://www.youtube.com/watch  I found a recent scouting report of Thon Maker. Most of the footage are from games against top US HS programs. Just based on his skill set and recent athletic testing at the NBA combine (vertical adjusted-1inch to compensate for Aran Smith recent article), he should be a lottery pick. By the way Aran, isn’t it better to have a 9’3.5" standing reach as opposed to a 9’2.5" standing reach? I mean you can train a guy to jump higher but you can’t really make him longer. That extra inch plus the fact that his "small" hands  are bigger than than Skal’s and Diamond Stone’s may warrant moving Thon up from 33rd to 32nd on this sites mock draft.

For the record, I’m someone who thinks Thon is potentially worth a flier in the late lottery to mid-first round, but there have been guys like him who were skilled and athletic that didn’t pan out, and I think that is where some reticence lies.

There’s a lot more to scouting a player than tall, high vertical, and skillset against high school kids. Anthony Randolph comes to mind as a player who had a lot of those traits, but didn’t pan out. Thon is by no means a sure thing, and I think that is why he isn’t in the conversation higher on the board.

Personally, I think the talent drops off pretty significantly after the top 8 prospects in this class, and isn’t particularly deep through 20, so a gamble on a project is no big deal in my eyes. In 2013 Giannis was picked 15 and Bebe Nogueira was picked 16, they don’t all hit, but it’s a great range to swing IMO.

I think he could go 10th to Milwaukee anything higher would be a little over draft

Is he any bigger a risk than Labissiere? Maker is supposed to have a much better motor. It’s a tough call. Until you see him play against guys who are as physically gifted as he is it’s hard to tell what he has. He did have his chance at the combine. The fact that he didn’t take it, I think, means he slips down into the Bruno Caboclo range. Some team will have to spend a pick they might be able to do without on him. He’s not like Porzingis, where you have a ton of tape from a top league to study.

As a Boston fan of a team with 8 draft picks, I definitely want to see Boston gamble with one of their many picks.

With so many teams having multiple picks I just don’t see him going outside the first round. Even as you get to 27 to 30, if Toronto haven’t taken a frontcourter with their high pick would they not take a shot at him, the Spurs rarely let a good prospect slip by them. GSW at 30 would seem a low risk high upside pick too.

Factor in multiple Denver, Phoenix, Philly, Celtics first rounders and someone must surely roll the dice on him.

A total wildcard could be the Knicks try to buy in and get him.
