Something that is under appreciated is that the Celtics are playing without their

#1 option: Kylie Irving & # 2 option: Kyrie Irving & Marcus Smart (just came back last night and you can see his value) who finishes every game

Tell me how these teams do without the comparable players

Warriors: no Steph Curry & no Kevin Durant & no Andre Iguadala

Rockets: no James Harden & no Chris Paul & no Eric Gordon

Thunder: no Russell Westbrook & no Paul George & no Corey Brewer

Cavs: no Lebron James & no Kevin Love & no Jordan Clarkson

Raptors: no DeMar Derozan & no Kyle Lowry & no Delon Wright

Bucks: no Giannis & no Kris Middleton & no Malcolm Brogdon

76er’s: no Ben Simmons & no Joel Embiid & no Marco Belinelli

I would argue that no other NBA team would be able to withstand what Brad Stevens and the Celtics have been able to do.

    Thoughts?

The loss of Hayward this season has really allowed both Tatum and brown to grow and expand their games in ways they probably wouldn’t have otherwise this early in their careers. It’s almost a blessing in disguise for them that the injury occurred so early in the season before they had got used to having him in the lineup. I think it would have been much tougher to navigate if it happened midseason.

The Celtics depth has really helped them deal with it the loss of Irving. While you certainly can’t prepare for and replace a player of Irving’s caliber this late in the season, rozier has been doing a pretty good job filling in and Larkin has been at least serviceable for them off the bench. This is a tough-minded team that just has that next man up mentality when dealing with injuries. You have to give Stevens credit for instilling that culture.

Whether they win this series or not, Stevens is easily my choice for coach of the year.

I didn’t mention each teams top 3, I tried to name their top 2, then a 3rd player who brings value and plays meaningful late game minutes

Tatum, J Brown, Hayward, Irving, Rozier, they have to get rid of someone right.

Has to be Hayward right? (If healthy). There’s nothing Hayward does that Brown/Tatum can’t over the next 5+ years

Nobody thought the loss of George hill would be devastating when they had Rubio & Exum, they just hit the jackpot with Mitchell

Hayward was a big loss to Boston, he had been their sought after FA target but it did allow Tatum to step up and I wonder whether they may possibly look to move Hayward on if right deal came up.
