    WTF man…….

Per Chams & Woj, this is a very puzzling decision at this stage of the game. What’s the deal with this owner? Last year they fired Earl Watson after like a handful of games into the season, and now they fire the GM without even seeing 1 game of the team he assembled. Not saying Earl Watson shouldn’t have been let go….. they were getting waxed every game to start the season last year. Strange move so quickly into the campaign.

Was this because they couldn’t find a starting point guard? Did he disagree with some of the moves they made (i.e Brandon Knight deal)?? Perhaps coughing up the Miami pick in the Bridges deal?

I’m just surprised of the timing. Thoughts?

I’m incredibly surprised by the timing as well. Who the hell fires the GM as the season begins? They let him run the draft where they had the #1 overall pick for goodness sakes. The only thing that could make this decision make sense would be if Ryan McDonough was involved in a massive Dallas Maverick’s front office level scandal or if he’s about to go to jail for something. That’s it. Otherwise it’s outright insane.

He’s obviously not doing his job the way the owner wants him to. I mean I havent really liked these trades either to be fair.

Trading an unprotected 1st round pick to move up 6 spots?

Trading Knight for Anderson is all good but he traded Chriss the 7th overall pick from 2 years ago for Melton a 2nd round pick. Remember they traded Bogdan Bogdanovic, the 13th pick, the 28th pick and a 2nd round pick for him. Bogdanovic alone is betetr than Chriss at this point, that kid can really Bogdan! Any way you look at it that whole sequence of trades screams failure and has set back the franchise.

Now they cant even find a decent starting PG. They are likely dangling Warren in trade talks looking for just a decent floor general and havent gotten nothing yet.

He also missed on a handful of picks and completely created a logjam at SF by drafting JJ last year and trading for Bridges, then signing Ariza (which I thought was the best move they made). Couldve easily just drafted a PG like Holiday, Simons or Shamet at 16 without trading up and wouldve likely had a ROY candidate along with Ayton. Not to mention Bridges was picked 10th so they couldve grabbed Shai Gilgous Alexander if they pulled the trigger on that deal before Philly picked Mikal.

Bridges and Okobo are still solid picks not to take anything away from them but eventually you gotta properly invest your assets and stop creating logjames at every position.

Good move by the owner, should of did it after the draft. You trade the only guy that can run somewhat of point for a bad contract in Ryan Aderson, wtf? You make that ridiculious trade for Bridges when you have a jam log at SF.  And they still don’t have a PG. And how is Okobo a "solid" pick??  Too much hype for these foreign players..they said the same about the Knicks pick last year now they trying to move him to SG, SMH…

Strange decision to take just as the season is starting off, if the owner or senior team executive’s weren’t happy with moves being made why did they sign them off.

There must be more to this story.

i wonder if who ever they get now as a gm will be happy with their new coach or will they want their own guy?

mcdonough made bad moves for sure but how much was him and how much was ownership? sounds like a very involved owner.

they might have a very hard time getting a good gm

earlier in the Summer when we heard rumors that Existing GM’s were angling to get that Job b/c of the Talented Core

Same thing is gonna happen w/ Phoenix – you got a Ayton, Booker, Jackson, Bridges core w/ almost certainly Another Lottery pick coming in the 2019 Draft.

Suns are prob a good 5 years away but just as Lebron & Golden State are leaving the Big Stage the Suns could be stepping on to it!

This is the same guy who basicaly admitted that since he cant decide between Chriss or Bender, he drafted both of them. Now Chriss is out of the team and Bender looks like he is no his way out too. He also is a bit too enamored on the whole "positionless" basketball prospect that he drafted two SFs and signed Ariza. There is no way you can expect Devin Booker to play full-time PG. He needs someone to set him up. Bad timing on the firing but this guy is a clown.

I wonder if the Chriss – Anderson trade also contributed to his downfall. I’d imagine the new coach would be okay as a new GM coming in could be reasonably be expected to work with the current coach and we never know how the actual pecking order between GM and Coaches work.

On the NBA staff directory – Ryan was listed above coach Igor Kokoskov which was reasonable as he’d been in situ longer. But I wonder if there was a power struggle between the two of them and one had to go.

The job will attract a lot of interest given their young core and a likely good pick next year so the incoming GM will have good potential upside to benefit from.

The guys record was meh at best they started off with a core that wasn’t good enough to win but not bad enough to lose.. Then there was the 3 guard issue with Bledsoe,Dragic and I.T, The flame out with L.Alridge F.A and the poor drafting ability outside of Booker and Ayton. They gave him 5 years I think and he couldn’t  get it done so no surprise here.

The only thing that is a sort of worrying move is did James jones(Interim GM) stab him in the back to get the position or not…

The Suns have a good core however, if they don’t get a P.G or if Booker can’t do a harden then they are kind of screwed and will most likely end up in the lottery again..Hence the GM being fired as he didn’t get this sorted…

Don’t forget that out of guys he drafted in the top 10 – Len was allowed to move on as a FA, Chriss has been traded and there are question marks about Bender? Okay Booker was a great pick up but the negatives outweigh the positives.
