If I’m the spurs this summer I let Ginobili walk then try and give Josh Smith his contract. A front line of Leonard Smith and Duncan probably ends up as the best in the league. I think Josh Smith is the perfect spurs answer for Lebron. Also I would pick up Tyreke Evans for the right price or if I totally fail on Josh Smith I pick up OJ Mayo to replace ginobili.

If you think you can sign Josh Smith and either Evans or Mayo for a combined 12 million dollars you are pretty ambitious…they can get one big time FA but two is out of the question unless Duncan retires.

I think they’ll be able to keep the 36 year old Ginobili for cheap, maybe 5 mil a year.

Resign Manu for 5-6 mil a year and sign Al Jefferson or Paul Millsap. Draft Rice, Ledo, Franklin or Bullock

I have been a Manu fan for most of his career. However, I must say from this series, he has lost the touch and mental quickness to compete at finals level. The aging factor is really a killer among basketballers and for him too. But he is still one of the more unstoppable players in NBA when beast mode is turned on.

I hope Manu understands it and takes a pay cut. He needs to understand his physical ability is more suited for a role player+leadership role. Leaving the Spurs does not benefit him in any way. If signed on to a resized contract, both ways will seem to get the most benefit out of each other.

Personally, I believe and hope the Spurs move up the draft to snag Sergey Karasev in the up coming draft.
Their style of play seems to fix perfectly. His quick catch and shoot ability at 6-7 will enhance Spurs team orientated offense and also provide much needed size on defense. His lateral movement doesn’t seem to bad ( according to the Nike Hoop Summit Game), I believe Karasev type of player playing under Spurs offense will be an effetive role player by All star break.

I certainly hope so, ;lets just wait and find out.

I could see Paul Milsap as a Spur before Josh Smith..and Josh Smith CANNOT guard Lebron James, seen way too many Hawks games to know that. Leonard did a better job on him then what Josh would do.

Its hard to say because they first gotta decide what their gonna do with Ginobili and Splitter. Those two are probably gonna determine if SA wil look for free agent replacements or not.

Draft Ledo next week. Bring him along sleoly for the seaoson. Resign Manu on a small scale 2 year deal. Bring back Avery Johnson as an associate coach(who would eventually replace Pop), with Budenholzer heading to the hawks. Avery had a good working relationship with Andray Baltche and was the primary reason for his success this season. Maybe Avery can persuade Blatche to join him in Texas despite the larger offers he might receive from other teams. He could potentially be a better version on Diaw, who gave them unbelievable minutes in the post season. If there’s any coach in the league who’d be able to max out Andray it’s Pop.

I’m not familiar with the rest of the free agent market centers, but they could use a shot blocker rebound to help plug up that middle.

Continue to develop Kahwi Leonard offensively, aswell as Corey Joesph and they’d be in good shape.

I assume the Spurs first move is to check with D Howard. A lineup of Howard, Duncan and Kwahi would be huge. The other team would NEVER grab an offensive rebound.

Ginobili is taking a pay cut. But as his play was down this year even before that egg of a finals. Also I suspect there is a view that he can’t be relied on for 35 minutes a game anymore. So if you are only getting 25 minutes, you can’t pay the full price that his talent still demands. And just because he had a bad couple of games, lets not forget that he was still a good player this year. Just in somewhat limited minutes and not at his older “hall of fame” level.

But I suspect the Spurs could add Howard and then go over the cap with things like the Mid-Level exception. Ginobili might come back to the Spurs for $5 million a year. Especially if it allows the team to get Howard.

I would give Manu a two year deal at $4 million a year. I don’t want to pay him $5 million or $6 million a year. Then after one year he either is still playing well, retires, or becomes a nice expiring contract.

I like Josh Smith but I don’t know what he does that Kawhi Leonard doesn’t already do. Smith is a better shot blocker but Kawhi Leonard is better defensively and on the boards. He is also smarter on offense. Duncan and Kawhi are great on the front line together. Kawhi can even play the stretch four role now.

Josh Smith isn’t an oversized power forward and he basically does some of the same things that Kawhi Leonard does. Leonard doesn’t block shots but Tiago Splitter is ok with that (if they resign Splitter).

If the Spurs want more shot blocking I think they should look at Jeff Withey. He can block shots and defend. He can also rebound some and finish around the basket.

What about Monta Ellis as a free agent pickup? He would be great if Manu retires since he can score, drive to the basket, and handle the ball? Him and TP would be tough to stop, or they can bring Monta Ellis off the bench as the best sixth man in the league. The Spurs would then have a good guard rotation with Tony Parker, Danny Green, Monta Ellis, and Gary Neal.

That would be their best off season. Monta Ellis as a free agent and then Jeff Withey in the draft. Then resign Splitter to a reasonable deal or do a sign and trade. They might want to do a sign and trade with Splitter going to the Bulls and the 20th pick and Nazr Mohammed going to San Antonio. At 20 they can go after a guy like Ledo (if he is there) or the best player available. Then Nazr gives them veteran big man insurance.

At 58 if James Southerland is on the board I can go with him. He is a decent athlete with range who could play the 3 or the 4 in smaller lineups. I think the Spurs need to use the Duncan – Leonard pairing in small ball lineups as much as possible. Then they could have Southerland at the 3. Or the go big but faster with Duncan and Withey. They need to resign Diaw. He is a versatile player who can shoot, rebound, and pass. He plays well with Duncan and they can put him in at the 4 or 5. They might also want to play DeJuan Blair more. He isn’t tall or a great defender, but he can rebound and score inside.

They need to have a team that maximizes Duncan on the inside, Parker on the outside, along with Kawhi Leonard and two shooters. They don’t need another traditional big man. Just a shot blocker with a decent motor like Withey and a versatile big like Boris Diaw off the bench. They still have Matt Bonner who can shoot the 3. He also gave Z Bo and the Grizzlies some problems. And Blair isn’t the best but he basically does the same things that Carl Landry does.

The Spurs need a better supporting cast. Also, they need another post scorer in particular. Tim Duncan is the only guy on the Spurs who can score in the post.

I’m never worried about the spurs as far as who they draft…they always draft diamonds in the ruff. Also, getting a back up pg wouldn’t hurt either. But I would make a run at at Al Jefferson. because the spurs need someone else can rebound and score downlow besides Tim Duncan and Kawhi Leonard. It was evident that the spurs lack rebounding. Al will fill the void, but the question is at what price.
