mcbaileyParticipantIn my opinion, the best dunker in the field is Paul George. He has the ability to do something cool with the contest. I’m hoping he uses Roy Hibbert as a prop…well, actually, I hope nobody uses any props, but if he does, I hope it’s Roy.

Chilbert arenasParticipantI got Paul George, as an Arizona fan I’m glad to see two ex-wildcats in there, but I don’t see either of them winning. But with the fans voting I have no idea, I never trust the general public in voting when it comes to these things.

mds0549ParticipantThe fans love power dunks and he’s the biggest, most physical guy out there. I would like to see Williams win the dunk contest and take that confidence into the second half of the season. These rookies were really behind the 8-ball with an extremely short training camp then very few practices because of the condensed schedule and I think that is why the rooks are struggling more this year than most.

Chilbert arenasParticipantShump would have won with Lin out there, though I really wanted to see him in it, I didn’t want to see anymore Lin marketing. They would have just handed the trophy to Lin anyway.

F_DA_POParticipantdamn what the hell happened to the dunk contest? Lack of players, lack of talent and lack of rounds. Does this have to do with the new generation? Players too good for the dunk contest, fans too bored to watch more rounds, lack of players even wanting to do the dunk contest? All the guys dunking can throw it down, but I don’t understand why there isn’t at least one superstar and more than ONE round?

mcbaileyParticipantIf you’re watching the dunk contest for the dunks, and you acknowledge the fact that these guys can actually dunk and dunk well, then there’s nothing inherently wrong with not having "star power" in the contest. I’ll watch it anyway.

Memphis MadnessParticipantI like to watch good dunks. Paul George and Derrick Williams can really make a name for themselves if they do well. Jeremy Evans… um, reminds me of Jamie Watson when he was in the contest.
Chase Budinger is a solid dunker but I don’t see him winning it.
Paul George is legit and could use a coming out party.
I am looking forward to seeing Derrick Williams especially since Ricky Rubio will probably be passing him the ball. Rubio might end up having the best PASSES in dunk contest history. I think those two guys will try to have some fun with the dunk contest which should be good for fans.
I want to see some good dunks with the best dunker winning the contest. Blake was good last year but McGhee had some better dunks. Blake did his thing — good for him — but hopefully a new Blake will come along and put on a show. Hats off to Blake last year for actually doing the contest unlike some other guys. As good of a dunk contest guy Blake is he is probably an even better in-game dunker so I am looking for him to put on a show during the all-star game.
The contest has some nice young dunkers in it and we always get a guy who can do some nice, new create dunks even if they aren’t household names or superstars (Kenny "Sky" Walker, Dee Brown, Harold Miner, JR Rider, Jason Richardson, Desmond Mason, Gerald Green, and even DeRozan and McGhee in losing efforts). Superstars winning the contest (Jordan, Nique, Kobe, Dwight Howard) are the exceptions rather than the rule. Vince Carter’s dunk title turned him into a full-blown superstar as the NBA marketing complex tried to turn him into the next MJ (VC succeeded early on but then tapered off).
The dunk contest champ should be the guy who dunks the best, not necessarily the league’s top all-star who can also throw the ball through the hoop. Dunk champs need originality and a breath of fresh air to make names for themselves with those other slam dunk winners. I think Paul George and Derrick Williams can pull it off, but everyone also loves an underdog (Jeremy Evans). And, don’t forget Chase Budinger. Is he the next Brent Barry (dunk champ) or Rex Chapman (nice dunker, didn’t win the title). George and Williams might be able to pull off some Nance, Nique, and Kemp type dunks that the crowds love and so do I.
Hoping for the best.
