FUNKYBUNCHParticipantWith the big dance coming soon here, I was wondering what our thoughts on which underclassmen should stay in college and which should declare based on basketball skills. Last year there was a record 236 early entrants, making their a big probability of another 200+ entrants. With that in mind, not every prospect should declare and not every prospect is ready or won’t just test the waters. I won’t list every early entrant that might decide but here is the list I’m curious about… (feel free to add more names if you don’t see a deserving player) but this seems to be my underclassmen big board (for now). I would probably declare if I were any of these guys and at least test the waters. What do you think?
Should he declare? Or not?

juves4783Participantthis is a really tough question with a weak draft class like this.
below are guys that i think should declare mainly because there’s not a whole lot another year would do for them.
dedric lawson, yoeli childs – 2 guys with a large sample size of success in ncaa. both face the issue of being tweeners at the next level. in a weak draft, these guys have more chance to be drafted.
shamorie ponds, tyus battle, markus howard, ky bowman – all these guys are high volume scorers that put up big numbers because that is the role they have to play for their teams to be succesful. another year of big stats isn’t going to move the needle.
ty jerome, bruno fernando – jerome is high iq, shoot high percentage combo guard; similar to ex-uv star joe harris. think he should cash in on a good year and harris’ recent successes. fernando is an old school center that uses brute strength. beating up ncaa centers for another year probably won’t help unless he somehow were to figure out how to expand his game outside the blocks.
antoine davis, charles bassey – unless these guys transfer to a bigger school, they both will dominate lower level competition. i don’t see another year of inflated stats helping since they are in small conferences.

sweaterflexParticipantFreshman:
Ignas Brazdeikis- declare, old for his class, team may be weaker next year
Naz Reid- declare while he still has some one and done shine, likely busts
Tyler Herro- declare, stock high, Maxey is taking those shots next year
Talen Horton-Tucker- return, borderline first, young for his class, could prove he can shoot and be lotto next year
Luguentz Dort- return, lots of 2 guards ahead of him, could prove he can shoot and be lotto next year
Ayo Dosunmu- return, likely second at the moment
Jaylen Hoard- declare, still has some one and done shine, could accept Euro stash (originally from France)
Charles Bassey- he’s going to declare, center is so deep I’m not sure if he’s drafted in the first round
Lamine Diane- return, needs to prove he can shoot
Kevin Porter- declare, doesn’t really fit college game, will go first round on talent alone, needs G-League reps
Simi Shittu- return, Garland injury really hurt status, stuck between 4 and 5
Tre Jones- declare, likely first rounder after tourney run
Xavier Johnson- return, surprisingly overshadowed, stock would climb if Pitt improves
Antoine Davis- return, likely undrafted
Jalen Smith- return, borderline first, needs to either bulk up or improve jumper
Devon Dotson- return, though he could possibly sneak in to late first
Ashton Hagans- declare, UK minutes too hard to come bySophomores:
Bruno Fernando- declare, nothing else to prove
Jalen McDaniels- declare, needs to pay the court fees
Zach Norvell- return, lots of available shots next year
Kris Wilkes- return, needs to show more all around game for a winner
Jaylen Nowell- declare, nothing else to prove
Ty-Shon Alexander- return, could stand to tighten D and create for others
Chuma Okeke- declare, should be late first on two way potential
Oshae Brissett- return unless he wants to play in EuropeJuniors:
Markus Howard- declare, nothing else to prove
Sagaba Konate- declare, likely early second, probably would be next year as well
Dedric Lawson- declare, needs an NBA trainer
Tyus Battle- declare, looks like a 2-way contract type who could stick
Udoka Azubuike- return, still young for class, lots of centers in front of him
Ky Bowman- declare, nothing else to prove
Shamorie Ponds- declare, nothing else to prove
Alpha Diallo- return, could stand to tighten jumper
Ty Jerome- declare, likely late 1st-early 2nd0 - Posted on: Fri, 03/15/2019 - 11:56am #1130818
CoachWyersParticipantWithout going into the names it is an easy decision. If you are sure you will go in the 1st round (yes you may slip to 2nd) you should enter draft. If you have any doubts that you may be a 2nd rounder you should go back to school.
