Believe it or not the first time he ever dunked was in his senior year of high school and was a no name his freshman year at UCLA. It didnt take long for the late bloomer to break UCLA’s tough starting rotation and help spark another final four run…although they had been there two times in a row. He was pac10 defensive player of the year and still averaged 12 points without having much offense ran for him.It took him eighteen games to get into the starting lineup for the Thunder (1-17), he is a fierce competitor and since starting they have improved to 13-40. He is a defensive specimen with all the athletic ability in the world and is just reaching the tip of the iceberg as far as his potential goes. . Him and Rose both are 6’3 190lbs and both play explosively on both ends of the court. He has three thirty point games this year (Rose has 1) and although the offense is run through Kevin Durant while Chicago’s goes through Rose, RW averages 15 per game while as a starter he has averaged 16.4 pts, 5.4 rbs, and 5.4 assts.(Rose has started every game this season and averages 17.0, 3.6 rebs, and 6.4 assists. Although RW is not a pure point alike Rose and his handles have still not caught up to his game, RW has had more assists than turnovers in every game this year. RW has a high of a ceiling as Derrick Rose or anyone else in the past years rookie class. With the great improvement that Durant has showed and if Jeff Green continues to improve, there is no doubt that with some experience the OKC Thunder are certainly have the core and are headed in the right directio. I severely question the 09 mock draft that has them picking Mills and Collison back to back (19-20) and it is obvious that Westbrook has his position locked for a long time.

Westbrook is a supreme talent. He was very underrated all of his career and finally got some recognition after the final four run and got selected 4th. I see a good amount of Dwyane Wade in him. He is very explosive. The reason though for the site selecting Mills and Collison back to back is not because they projected the Thunder to pick them. Until the draft lottery, I am pretty sure they have the mock draft as just prospect rankings. I do not believe they pick for that team in the slot, they just sort them from 1-60 rankings.

He and Rose will both be fantastic players in this league for a long time.

Yea westbrook is a real nice player out there man. I did have some doubts about whether or not he would be a starter in the league but the doubts are now gone. I knew he was explosive and athletic and could defend, but I didn’t think he would be as good a passer as he is. He just has to shoot it better and he will be on his way. I think okc after this years draft will be loaded with talent and will push for a low seed in the playoffs by 010.

i think westbrook will be better than rose in the long run, because of his defense, even though even with his improvement on offense i think rose will always be better in that department, but oj mayo and eric gordon will be the best two, better than both, there has been talk in memphis of moving oj to point and i think he could do the same thing rose and westbrook do, i really see a less explosive d-wade in mayo, but he can shoot better so that may off set it…i see westbrook as a deron williams type, i see eric gordon as baron davis in about a year or two because he will eventually be a point and i see rose as a bigger kevin johnson

I dont think it will happen, Gordon has a smooth stroke from every angle, Davis shooting is erratic, but davis will always have teh edge in the assists dept.

They are different players, but are strong but Gordon is more a SG (combo)

Westbrook is definitely more athletic than Williams, He is more like Wade, Williams is a pure PG
I see Rose as a more athletic Jason Kidd with less rebounding ability.

I Think Westbrook is going to be a great player, but Rose will be better. He just has vision that you can’t teach and he is one of the best finishers I have ever seen. Rose is the better passer and if he wasn’t so unselfish he would show he is the better scorer too. He also has the chance to be a great defender, but he needs to be more aggressive and go try and get steals more often.

You don’t become a better defender by gambling and trying to get steals…..

you’re right gordon is more of a combo guard but you saw when baron and mardy got hurt earlier in the year he ran point and did pretty good with like 19 points and 6 assists…..i was thinking though of their body frames and atheletic ability you know a 6’3 215 pound point guard

Rose averages less then 2 fouls per game, which means he isn’t very aggressive on defense. If he did gamble more not a whole lot but still some he would get more steals, which leads to fastbreaks and so on. I agree it doesn’t make you a better overall defender but he does have the ability to be a great one. But he really needs to gamble more.

he wil be better than rose because of his defence just like kobe is better than lebron
derrick is strong like lebron can do everything but defence
but RW is more of kobe as a pg but less skills
