Rounding out GSW's roster

In order to sign Durant, GSW renounced the rights to Barnes (signed with DAL) and Ezeli (lost his bird rights), and they’re trading Bogut to DAL. Right now, their roster consists of:
Curry/Livingston
Thompson
Durant/Igoudala/Looney
Green
Just on those 7 players, they’re spending $89.3 million. The maximum salary cap is $94.1 million and the luxury tax line is $113.3 million.
They’re still slightly under the cap and should be able to utilize some form of mid-level exception, but they don’t have a lot of money to work with to fill out the roster with quality players. They’re very small up front. No true center. Not a lot of depth. Who could they go after? I’m sure there’ll be plenty of guys willing to take the veteran’s minimum to join.

You can add draft picks Damian Jones and Patrick McCaw to this roster as well. I’m sure they won’t have much trouble filling out this roster. Old vets will want to play for the mininum.

  GSW hasn’t given Jones a contract yet but they have for McCaw. Jones is also in the middle of rehabbing his arm, there’s no need to rush him so he isn’t expected to be ready by November. I expect both to be on the Warrior’s D-league team next season though.

I would think GS wants to try and keep him at a reasonable price. He plays well with Livingston in the 2nd unit because he looks to score and shoot and Livingston likes to pass and can’t shoot 3’s.

Wont be hard to find vets, but they need to find vets that can still play and that they can give minutes to, not just sit around the end of the bench and locker room. That will be hard with the type of money flying around. The West is still tough, the Spurs won 60+ games and picked up a still productive Pau Gasol. GS are a Green/Curry/KD injury away from being in the middle of the pack.

They will go over the cap to re-sign Speights and Barbosa since they have their bird rights I can’t imagine those two leaving GSW. McCaw signed a 2 year contract, Jones hasn’t been offered one yet. McCaw is not NBA ready yet so they’ll probably stash him in the d-league. So that leaves 2 spots open they can bring in a player via MLE and the minimum.

He’ll probably be looking for beyond the minimum but if he wants a title shot I think it would be worth bringing in Nene. Is the type of big bodied skilled guy they could use and if limited to under 20 minutes a night can become incredibly effective. I think they should also sign Issiah Canaan or Aaron Brooks to help fill the gap if Barbosa is not resigned as the scoring guard off the bench. Alonzo Gee would also be a nice signing as a poor man’s Harrison Barnes.
