I know what you guys are thinking. How can the lockout have any benefits for a rookie?…well in reality it doesn’t, but there is some players that it will effect in a postive way and some(most) in a negative way. Here is my list(this is only for their rookie season)

Lets start with rookies with negative effects, since its the easiest!

    1. All second round players and undrafted players– These are the rookies sweating the most, praying everyday that the lockout will end soon, Unlike 1st rounders they don’t have the luxury of having guaranteed contracts. They can be released almost anytime because teams wouldn’t lose anything. Half of these players won’t even be remembered by the time of the next draft comes along(which is normal in about every draft), but we might never know if one of them had  the talent to be a gem(ie Michael Redd, Carlos Boozer,Manu,Monta Ellis, etc) possible players-Jeremy Tyler,Darius Morris, Malcom Lee, Josh Selby,Isaiah Thomas, and more

2.Enes Kanter– Already Hasn’t played basketball in a year since being ruled ineligible by NCAA for accepting funds, Add another possible missed year of basketball, and your in trouble. Although he could sign a contract overseas, he would probably end up playing for a team with mediocre competition, which wouldn’t help him a lot. He still needs to get in shape to play a whole nba season, and since training camp and preseason will be shortend or cut out completely, he will always be playing catch up for his rookie year, potentially stunting his growth as a player

    3. Ricky Rubio– yes even though technically not a rookie, he will be considered one once he reaches the nba.Rubio has been talked about being the next great pg for years, but has appartently slowly regressed his game over the last two years. All that hype that he has developed is rapidly causing the "Bust" meter to rise, as people are questioning his actual skillset to play in the nba(no jumpshot, average defender, basically only a flashy passer) and each constant year that passes from him being on an nba court further puts pressure on him to perform at an allstar level his rookie..weather fair or not. The only positive thing coming from his situation(I F@cking hate this word since jersey shore been on tv..sorry random) is Rick Adelman is his future coach, and will do the best he can to make the adjustment

Rookies who might get some postive effects from the lockout

    1. Jonas Valanciunas– yep… he’s going to miss next season weather theres a lockout or not, since he is still in contract with his current team BC Lietuvos Rytas. Jonas has a win-win season, He will play overseas and then come to the nba for 12-13 season for the raptors, as if nothing happens. It also doesn’t hurt that he has already impressed a lot of fans with his current play.

    2. Bismack Biyombo– First his age, now his contract, this dude just attracts controversy haha. According to recent reports Biyombo has a 3mil buyout with his former spanish club Fuenlabrada(who own his rights til july 2014), and hasn’t even been cleared by FIBA for him to sign with the bobcats. Simply stated, if there is no season Biyombo has more time to figure out this mess he has put himself in and not make bobcats look like they "pulled a Khan".

    3. Kyrie Irving-Why? simple everyone knows the cavs are gonna be horrible next season, this puts further pressure on him to perform well in his rookie season as the "savior" of the cavs. If there is no season, cavs will have a lotto pick, get a possible franchise player, and Irving can see his numbers possibly increase. He should be able to put good numbers for the cavs anyway but this just makes it that much easier, for doing absolutely nothing.

    4. Kemba Walker– same as Irving, except with even more of a mess.

Criticizm Welcome, I know its coming anyway haha

…oh and sorry for misspelled words, run sentences, and grammer mistakes

quiet interesting… the situation for the 2nd rouder is dramatic cause with the strong ’12 class will erase them quickly.

I think (for rubio) it could also be a good thing cause the lockout is giving him more time to adapt to a new culture and way of playing. And that is a major issue for him who didn’t leave its parents or family neighbouring the past years (badalone, barcelone….). Maybe that is the "kick in the b*tt" he needs to perform more than he did the last 2 years. He has also more time to work on his weeknesses (which are more individual as his shoot than collective he still has great bball IQ whether in offense or Defense) and will have less pressure next year.

and I think you forgot about motiejunas : the lockout is great for him to prove on a european team that he can play at a high level and his draft slump (20 ?…) was a mistake for lots of scouts and GMs. He could prouve them wrong.

the situation is a bad thing for thompson. He will be playing in the nba the same year as valanciunas will. And the difference between those two will show everybody haw bad was that picking decision by the cavs (one spot earlier). Therefore he will face more comparision with ’12 draft rookies (and there will be a lot of better 3/4 profile next year).

Till ’12 the wolves will have to face their FA situation : love and beasley both as restricted FA (as randolph). So I don’t think they will keep both of them. I think they will match anything to keep love and let beasley walk (cause sign and trade should not exist anymore soon). Maybe that could kill the logjam situation and clear space for derrick williams…. if and only if kahn decide in next years’ draft that he doesn’t need another 3/4 (and not repeat his 4pg draft strategy) !

Derrick Williams loses out here too in my opinion; he needs a chance to prove to the T’Wolves he can surpass Beasley as a SF and scoring option before they are forced to make a decision on his contract.

not to mention that people are getting a bad case of the Jimmermania which is highly unstable during lockouts.  Unfortunately, the disease only continues to progress with the lack of court play by Jimmer Fredette.  Symptoms include mass hysteria, irritability, delusions, and temporary psychosis.  A consistent dose of Jimmer on a daily basis is the only recognizable solution to the condition.

The European players with teams will not really be hurt by the lockout as they can play in their respective leagues for another year and perhaps hone their game a bit more whilst still receiving an income.

This year’s 2nd rounders could well be the big losers as teams in a shortened season may only take a minimum roster and could prefer a veteran to an unproven player. So the unguaranteed and undrafted guys could effectively be pushed into the 2012 training camps with another year’s crop of players.

Junkyard Dog- i actually meant to put Thompson on here but I guess i forgot, your right though, if there is no nba season he will definately need to perform well as he will constantly be compared to Jonas. Thanks for the addition

Omphalos- I think the pressure is more on Michael Beasley then it is on Derrick Williams, I mean it was already known that Beasley would possibly on his way out if they picked williams, but I do understand where your coming from.

    Jlv2011- haha alright man

Hitster- your right 2012 is packed, its definately gonna be a fight for a roster spot, not to mention free agents also fighting for a spot.

I think Kemba misses out because if he were to play this year I think it would be basically his team and he can do whatever he want and get more minutes to get better in the NBA

Kemba will still be able to do whatever he pleases with the bobcats, they virtually have almost no one on their roster besides DJ Augustin. He will get a lot of minutes even his rookie season even if it means sharing it with a 2012 draft lotto pick

Teams could have a lot of rookies coming onto their rosters next season if a total lockout did happen and the fun thing could be that teams would perhaps be reluctant to draft a player in a similar position if they had the rights to a highly drafted untested 2011 player.

Would Cleveland consider anthor PG with Irving there? Thompson is their PF option so what would they do there.

With frontcourt players there are options and the real test could be if a team got a chance to draft a possible "cannot miss" prospect. Lets say Toronto who have a lot of frontcourters and a 2011 top 5 guy waiting to come onto the team if Andre Drummond had a huge year at UCON and they got first pick could they pass on him?

Helped by lockout: Late-round Euro guys.  These guys get another year in their closer-to-home leagues/ideal systems to increase their value and, ultimately, their minutes

Hurt: Nolan Smith-One less year under the tutelage of Andre Miller.  This is a nuique situation, as no other team with an aging PG drafted another one.  PG is possibly the biggest adjustment, so not having that extra year to learn will hurt Smith.
