Raps need some hype going into the summer of losing Bosh so they have to make a bold move to generate some buzz..so how bout:

Hedo, calderon, and marcus banks to Washington

Arenas, 2nd round pick and $$$ to the Raptors

Washington needs a fresh starts with Wall taking over. Calderon will be a great backup (yet expensive) and Hedo will take on some offensive load with Arenas leaving and compliment Wall very well.

Arenas gives the raps an allstar (with bagage) for basically two players that they dont want (hedo) or need (calderon). Arenas will always sell tickets and do good things in the community. It could make Bosh second guess leaving, or add some much needed talent when he jets.

I would make the gamble to get Arenas if it can also help getting rid of Hedo and Calderon. Financially, it doesn’t really hurt that much consider Hedo and Calderon are also big contracts.

It’s not my favorite trade to revive the Raptors, but it’s good enough (at least for my expectation on BC).

If it happens, I would need to try get court seat at Raptors game to get a free Arenas wore jersey. 🙂

Its an interesting thought but I don’t see this happening. Washington just got their cap space and I really doubt they swap Gilbert for Hedo and Calderon. One problem for 2 others from Washingtons perspective. I expect them to go the OKC and Portland route as far as building over the next few seasons through the lotto unless a franchise player wants to sign with them. The main reason being their new owner used that same strategy when he was building the Caps team in the NHL.

I also don’t understand why Wash would want Calderon as Wall’s mentor? Best case, Calderon ends up a Very high priced backup with Washington. Thats not an effective use of cap space if your trying to build a contender. Perhaps if TOR offered Washington Jack, Derozan and Hedo for Gilbert and one of Washingtons later picks they might do that deal.

In any event its unlikely Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (66% owned by The Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan) would sign off on acquiring Gilbert either… even if it ment shipping out Hedo.

I think you all underestimate how badly Washington wants to see the back of Arenas. If offered, I think Wash would instantly accept the offer.

Arenas has played in 47 games in the last three seasons. Arenas was forced to spend time in a halfway house because HE KEPT GUNS IN HIS LOCKER and fought with a teammate.

Any offer that does not ruin the franchise for the next ten years will immediately be accepted by Wash. Talent wise they are worse off, but money wise they are in pretty much the same situation and they don’t have to deal with the off-court issues of Arenas anymore. IMO this offer would immediately be accepted.

There is no chance in hell that Wash gets Derozan, Hedo, and Jack for Gilbert. If he was guaranteed to be back to his all-star form, this would still not be a great deal for Tor. Under the circumstances there is no chance in hell Wash gets a deal like this.

If you purely look at financial impact, Calderon + Turkoglu is still below Gibert Arenas in salary. This move would actually “SAVE” money for the Wizards. They would actually have more cap space while getting rid of a potential issue (if they think having Arenas around Wall is a bad idea).

The Wizards would probably jump right on this deal and may even include the #30 to get it done.

There’s no way the Raptors would include Jack, DeRozan or anything of value in a trade of getting Arenas 80 mil + 4 more years contract. As bad as Calderon and Turkoglu’s contracts, they are still under 80 mil.

Another thing is that it is much easier to move 2 smaller contracts than trying to move 1 big contract in any trade.

I think at least Derozan would have to be included if the Wizards are taking on Hedo and Calderons contracts….. Gilbert Arenas is still a good basketball player.
