Honestly Im upset they didnt sign Christian Wood (like very upset) but this is a good move. Monroe played with the Celtics last year so he knows their tendancies. I dont think knowing the playbook is as big of an advantage since even an average fan should know all of the Celtics sets by now let along the Raptors coaching/scouting staff but having practiced with most of those guys and knowing how they tick should help if it comes down to a 7 game series.

He likely wont be playing much as reports came out that Ibaka maybe coming off the bench at the C position but he is a good veteran replacement for Poeltl and provides grit and rebounding the team didnt have last year aside from Valanciunas.

Here’s a Strange Fact.. DeMarcus Cousins, Brook Lopez,Nerlens Noel, Greg Monroe & Javale McGee all signed for a combined 17 million this summer.

Why sign Monroe though when you have someone who plays the same but better in Valanciuncas. I’d think Bebe was perfect for them because he has different skillset from Val, and can be a change of pace big, energizer of the bench. Monroe backing up Val is too redundant.

That’s exactly why they signed him, for the continuity. They can plug in Monroe for as many or little minutes a night without having to change up their game play. They don’t really need an energizer off the bench when they already have a ton in Miles/Green, Ibaka/Siakam, OG, Powell, VanFleet & D.Wright. They easily have one of if not the best bench in the league. Adding Monroe in the mix only makes a strong bench even scarier.

I’ve said this before Bebe’s so soft though cant ever count on him for a defensive rebound to close out possessions. He doesnt wanna hurt people he is playing against and tries to score, rebound, defend without bumping people. Every once in a while he will give a hard foul accidently but then he helps the guy he fouled up and apoligizes. Nice guy but sportsmanship only goes so far this isnt a pickup game. Rarely goes up strong when given oppurtunities to finish on pick and rolls, alot of the times he will be standing under the rim with a forward gaurding him and he will pass out to the corner. He’s a bad decision maker and he has a weak mentality. Always complaining and sulking about calls.

I mean I like the guy. He’s apparently got a great character and is one of the nicest people youll ever meet. His length (7’6) allows him to be a difference maker contesting shots and makes easy pick and roll scenerios but he just isnt a difference maker in tough scenerios and Monroe is so much better its not even close in my opinion.

Either way Raptors still have one roster spot so we’ll see what they do with that. They might decide to bring him back but I doubt it. They pretty much canned everyone on the team that constantly complained to refs about about calls the last 2 years except Kyle Lowry.

Decent pick up by the Raptors as Greg has proved he can still be a solid bench guy so can immediately fill Poeltl’s minutes.
