Lets rank the following free agents in terms of quality of play they’d give over the next three years.  I’ve left obvious guys like KD and LBJ off the list.  As well as much older players who’s production will probably slip over the aforementioned 3 year period (Dirk, Pau, D-WAde, Duncan).  What’s remaining is what I see as the cream of the crop.

    Hassan Whiteside    C    27

    Demarr Derozan     SG   26

    Al Horford              C    30

    Dwight Howard       C    30

Andre Drummond   C    22 (I know he’s not getting out of DET, but lets include him based on a 3 year projection with the older bigs)

    Harrison Barnes       SF   24

    Nic Batum                SF  27

    Allen Crabbe            SF  24

    Mike Conley            PG  28

    Marvin Williams        PF  29

    Evan Fournier           SG  23

    Chandler Parsons     SF   27

    Kent Bazemore        SF   26

    Evan Turner             SF    27

    Bismack Biyomobo   C    23

    Ian Mahimi                C    29

    Loul Deng                SF   31

    JR Smith                   SG  30

    Rajon Rondo            PG  30

    Ryan Anderson         PF  28

I know this is an extensive list, but I want to see each players perceptive value and the fluidity amongst basketball observers.  I’m probably forgetting a name or two that belongs and feel free to add it.  If you want to break it down into three categories of BIGS, WINGS, GUARDS, I’m cool with that too.  I’ll denote my list after a while.  Just trying to get a near consensus of how each player compares to another.  Thanks guys, you’re the best!!!

Deron Williams PG 31  (watching the career arcs of him and Marvin Williams has been fun, who’s been more valuable so far is becoming a real question, didn’t feel like that was possible 3 years ago)

    Al Jefferson       C  31

    Jeff Green         SF   29

    Courtney Lee    G   30

    Mo Harkless    SF  23

    Guards:
    1) Mike Conley Jr.
    2) Demar Derozan
    3) Evan Fornier
    4) JR Smith
    5) Rajon Rondo
It may be a slightly unpopular opinion, but I rank Conley over Derozan. Mike Conley is criminally underrated and is by far the MVP for the Griz… just look at their stats with vs. without him. He is so well-rounded. Derozan is very talented, a solid defender, an improving passer, and one of the best slashers in the game. However, he is still a ball stopper and is very inconsistent with his outside jumper. I believe he’s a tad overrated. Fornier is an up-and-comer with potential on both ends. JR Smith is purely a floor-stretcher (although he’s played better D this postseason), and Rondo is still a fanastic passer, but he still can’t shoot, his defense is abysmal and he’s a poor locker room guy.

    Wings:
    1) Nic Batum
    2) Allen Crabbe
    3) Evan Turner
    4) Harrison Barnes
    5) Kent Bazemore
    6) Loul Deng
Nic Batum is far and away the best of the bunch who deserves the max. He’s one of the best all-around players in the league who can rebound, defend, distribute, and shoot very well. The rest of the list was tough to rank. I have Crabbe second because he’s still so young, and looks very promising as a 3-and-D wing. Turner is third because he’s a solid defender and an excellent distributer perfect as a 6th man. I don’t like Barnes as much as most. He’s athletic and has talent, but it never seems to click with him. Bazemore is an okay 3-and-D guy who can distribute. Deng is last because he is up there in age and has a lot of mileage on his tires.

    Bigs:
    1) Andre Drummond
    2) Hassan Whiteside
    3) Al Horford
    4) Dwight Howard
    5) Bismack Biyombo
    6) Ian Mahimi
    7) Marvin Williams
Drummond isn’t going anywhere and is one of the best 3 centers in the league, and has more upside. Whiteside is an elite shot blocker and rebounder who can score, but he needs to work on his consistency as an interior defender. Horford is a rare stretch 5 who is solid across the board. Dwight is Dwight. Bismack has the potential to be the next Ben Wallace, but was his postseason run just a fluke? Mahimi has the ability to start and defend the rim/rebound well. Marvin Williams is a stretch 4 who can defend alright, but is better suited in a bench role.

Great list. Although I would say Marvin Williams and Luol Deng are more like forwards than wings or bigs and Deng should be higher on the list, he’s got alot of African in him.

I look more at player types than names. A LOT of these guys are less useful than you’d think in TODAY’s game, so guys like Horford and Derozan are vastly overrated imo. Lenghty rim protectors WHO CAN HIT FTs and 3&d SFs who can possibly play the 4 are way more valuable in today’s game

    1) Drummond, 2) Whiteside, 3) Conley, 4) Batum, 5) Derozan, 6) Parsons,  7) Harrison Barnes

    8) Horford, 9) Dwight  10) Byombo, 11) Allen Crabbe 12) Ryan Anderson 13) Fournier 14) Deng,

    15) Bazemore, 16) Harkless, 17) Rondo, 18) Marvin Williams 19) Evan Turner 20)Ian Mahimi , 21) JR Smith

I like this list, Untouchable J. My only comments:

-I would move Crabbe down – I don’t think he can play D.

-I would move Evan Turner up – He can do everything except shoot from 3.

-Lastly, I think Rondo is too talented to be so far down on people’s lists. Maybe he’s rated so low because there are so many talented PG’s in the league, and he’s also perceived to be difficult to fit into a team.

Kind of crazy that Batum and Whiteside are the same age since Nicolas seems to be in the league like forever and Whiteside is cashing in for the first time now.
