gatorheelsParticipantTeam that had the WORST Draft– Phoenix Suns. Markieff Morris will be descent but this team didn’t need another PF. If anything MARCUS Morris would’ve been a better fit. They shouldn’t have passed on Kawhi Leonard. Even Tobias Harris would’ve been a better pick here. Overall Phoenix just didn’t improve much at all. Fans have to be scratching their heads.
Team that had the BEST Draft– Golden State Warriors. Klay Thompson fits in perfectly. A backcourt with him & Curry will be fun to watch. Talk about shooters! Plus Charles Jenkins was a steal in the 2nd Round. I though Jenkins should’ve been picked in the 1st Round. The stats Jenkins put up at Hofstra were insane. The guys has skills. Stephen Curry, Monta Ellis, Klay Thompson, Charles Jenkins, wow. This backcourt is Set. Plus buying the 39th pick from Charlotte was smart & selecting Jeremy Tyler. Most people will agree that Tyler shouldn’t have slipped this far.
Biggest Reach– Cory Joseph at #29? I didn’t like the pick, thought there were probably at least 10 better players available. Other than this the Spurs had a solid draft. I mean if the Spurs were wanting to swing for the fences with this pick then they should have selected somebody like Honeycutt, Jeremy Tyler, or Selby.
Late 2nd Round Steals– Lakers pick #46 Andrew Goudelock. Lakers got a top 3 shooter in this draft, arguably the best shooter period. Goudelock could contribute right away as a spark plug marksman coming off the bench. Memphis pick #49 Josh Selby. I had Selby definitely rated as a 1st rounder. Was pretty surprised to see him slip this far. I think the Grizzlies did the right thing in scooping him up. If Selby keeps a good attitude & receives proper coaching then I think he will stick in the league for a long time. He is talented enough for sure. Charles Jenkins was a huge 2nd Round steal as well.
Best Mid 1st Round Pick– This was an easy one. Tobias Harris at 19 by the Bucks. Great pickup for Milwaukee. Harris is a top 10 talent in this draft. He will end up being a top 10 player from this draft, mark my words. Overall the Bucks through the draft/trades just became a much better team. Yeah they will be in the playoffs next season.
Best Late 1st Round Pick– Denver Nuggets Kenneth Faried. I had Faried rated as my #1 Power Forward. (I’m counting Derrick Williams, Marcus Morris, & Tobias as SFs) Too get this caliber of a player with the 22nd pick is great. Excellent value. I think people tend to just look at Faried’s rebounding skills, he is also a very very solid defender. He can even step out & effectively guard the perimeter which will be useful in the pros.
Unexpected Team Has A SOLID Draft– Orlando Magic. The Magic seemed to be putting Zero effort into this draft. I didn’t expect their team to improve. I was wrong. Pick #53 DeAndre Liggins. I was higher on Liggins than most. I live in Kentucky & I always heard about how Liggins was the best shooter in practices. He would light it up from deep all the time consistently. However in games he was a little gun shy. Towards the end of the year though he would shoot more from outside & actually made some very clutch jumpers in the NCAA tourney. I still think he has some upside as he gains confidence. We all know about his defensive ability which will translate fairly easily to the NBA. This was a steal so late in the draft. Trading 2 future second round picks to acquire Justin Harper was a solid move as well. Most NBA teams had Harper rated as a 1st Round talent. He fits in PERFECTLY with the Magic’s system. Orlando loves versatile forwards who can stretch the floor… Hedo, Ryan Anderson, etc.. They will get more of the same from Harper.
Can’t Believe They Didn’t Get Drafted– Scotty Hopson..once projected as a mid 1st round pick. What happened? He actually made some progress this season as a player. Still young with a lot of upside. Granted he didn’t do good in his interviews but still. He is confident, wants to win, has perfect size for his position, good shooter, one of the best athletes in the draft. I just don’t understand why a team didn’t gamble on him. Diante Garrett…I heard Great things about him after nearly every team workout he was involved in. Apparently workouts aren’t as important as we think. Rumblings of him potentially being a late 1st rounder. Ends up undrafted.
2nd Round WTFs!– Ater Majok, Tanguy Ngombo, Chukwudiebere. These guys definitely weren’t on my draft radar. We likely will never see any of these players in the NBA. I mean if a team wanted to take a chance on an upside pick, I mean if a team wanted to really reach for somebody then why wouldn’t then pick somebody like Greg Smith or Michael Dunigan. I just don’t get it. How could you pass on Smith & Dunigan?? They have legit size & upside.
Knicks will regret– drafting Iman Shumpert at 17. There will end up being at least 5 PG/SGs who will have better careers… Norris Cole, Josh Selby, Shelvin Mack, Darius Morris, Charles Jenkins, Reggie Jackson, Marshon Brooks…see I just named 8.
Minnesota did the right thing- in drafting Derrick Williams with the 2nd pick & Keeping Him!
I didn’t think Josh Harrellson or Vernon Macklin would get drafted. However I watched a ton of SEC games & both of these players did show glimpses of being pros from time to time.
I just have a gut feeling that Bismack Biyombo is going to be special. The kid has the right attitude. Nice draft by the Bobcats. I wouldn’t have picked Kemba Walker 9th but he will be a solid pro who wants to win. Charlotte is on the rise. Biyombo & Tyrus in the post!… get that Sh*t out of here! Haha Thats what I’m talking about.

Stojakovicfor3ParticipantKnicks will regret paying $1 million for Josh Harrellson, who isn’t even close to worth that

Memphis MadnessParticipantJosh Harrellson can rebound. He is tough and smart. The Knicks need help up front and some rebounding. Not a bad pickup for them. Might be a better player for them than Shumpert. He’s a blue collar worker who will help bang in the inside along with Ronny Turiaf. One of the better rebounders in college basketball last year. Outside of Kenneth Faried and Kawhi Leonard (or the Morris twins) there weren’t a whole lot of proven rebounders in the draft. A rebounding specialist who is not the athlete that Tristan Thompson or Derrick Williams is but has better rebounding fundamentals. Definitely a role player but he has some range on his shot and should help the Knicks.
The Knicks have their two stars, Billups at point, and a few young pieces in Tony Douglas, Landry Fields, and Shawne Williams. They needed a few more role players and got them. They needed a center but the big man they wanted (Vucevic) went one pick ahead of Shumpert to the Sixers. But outside of the center spot (I think they might use Harrellson some at center) they mainly needed defense and toughness and they got some things they needed.
Jan Vesely and Travis Leslie will add depth to next year’s dunk contest. Jimmer, Klay Thompson, and Jon Diebler will addd depth to next year’s 3 point contest. Kyrie Irving, Brandon Knight, Kemba Walker, Jimmer again, and Spanish import Ricky Rubio (you may have heard of him), and Norris Cole will add depth to next year’s skills competition. There should be lots of competition for this year’s rookie team in the ROOKIE vs. SOPHOMORE team with Jonas Valanciunas being an early favorite for the 2013 Rookie team.
How did the Spurs come away with one of the better players in the draft and a guy that the Cavs could have taken at 4 (tell me how a backup power forward makes more sense than a hard-nosed, high motor small forward in Kawhi Leonard who has huge hands, good rebounding skills and nose for the ball, and looks like a good 2nd guy on a young and upcoming team?)?
I hope Josh Selby works out…

Stojakovicfor3ParticipantIm thinking at best( if he ever plays in the NBA) Josh Harrellson can put up 1 point 5 rebounds and .5 blocks. That’s somewhat efficient but certainly not worth $1 mil

gatorheelsParticipantWow I didn’t know the Knicks paid a million for the 45th pick. I do think Harrellson is descent but definitely not worth that kind of cash. For the Knicks to be supposedly so high on Josh Selby it kinda surprised me that they wouldn’t draft him at 45.

JNixonParticipantDunigan has the size of an NBA frontcourt guy, but everything else is nothing of note.

aamir543ParticipantThe knicks paid 750,000 dolllars for the pick. And if you noticed, ESPN took a little longer a to put up Harrelson’s bio, I guess they had to make it up on the sopt. I dont mind them picking Harrelson, if they saw somthing in him that others didn’t, but I think they could’ve bought the pick from a team like the Spurs or Lakers that had a one of the last five picks.
