4thewinParticipantKobe is arguably the greatest Laker of all time so he would never be amnestied, but if he was at the end of the season would he go into the non-tax paying teams auction?
If he was Amnestied what do you think he would retire/head to Europe/play for another team in NBA/or something else?

torontoraptors10ParticipantHe’d sign with the Heat for less money.

alingeParticipantNo good team now would give him the keys to their team which I think he would want and Kobe wouldn’t sign for a non-contender. So for me it would be retirement

llperezNo way he retires. Can you imagine how pissed he would be at the lakers and embarrassed? No way he walks away from the game on those terms being cut. Clippers, Memphis, Knicks, hell lots of teams would love to have him come in and do his thing. This isn’t like the iverson situation where he was no longer an elite player.

llperezIronically, Cuban would probably the most aggressive to get him if he were amnestied.

IndianaBasketballParticipantThat’d be a Peyton Manning type situation if Kobe was amnesited.
It’d never happen though. Kobe will retire a Laker.

Ghost01ParticipantI can understand the Lakers obviously not amnestying Kobe because of how great he’s been, and how they have this idea that a couple minor tweaks to the roster and they are contenders again (as faint as thought may be) but what I don’t understand is the Celtics resisting the chance to move KG and Pierce for younger assets at the deadline. Their ceiling is basically the 2nd round, and its not getting any better any time soon.

BKGingerSnapParticipantGarnett has a no trade clause and refused to waive it…why can’t people understand that he’s really stubborn. The dude barely wanted leave Minnesota back in 07. The Celtics could also not get close to fair value for Pierce so they had no choice but to keep the team together.

Ahkasi ClayParticipanti don’t see it happening,
but how can the Lakers afford a maxed out Howard?I know the old owner might have been willing to go way over the cap, but with the hard penalties that are now in place will little Buss Jr. be willing to do it?
and lets not forget, if kobe wants to play for more then one more year he could ask for a contract starting at around 35 mil Per year
So If you have a great young Player That will only sign if it is unquestionable his team, and he wants Kobe gone what do you do?
What did the Lakers do when Kobe wanted Shaq Gone?

RickyRubio9Participantgtfo of here if you think he was done… No one ever thought of him as a 6th man until the Pistons tried it and ruined his career.

llperezAnd Detroit iverson is when he became no longer elite. Memphis was when it was clear it wasn’t worth the hassle to bring him in. Keep in mind that inversion was also one of the most outspoken anti practice players ever. And imnot just talking about his”practice interview”, he gave interviews throughout his career saying he disnt believe in practice and that he improved his game on the court and that he didn’t care about helping teammates work on their game and some of his own teammates said he would lock himself in the restroom during mandatory weightlifting sessions and just spend the whle hour in the bathroom. When you bring in a headstrong me first alpha male player who demands the center of attention, it’s a lot easier to make that commitment to someone like Kobe who is actually known as arguably the hardest worker the NBA has ever seen vs someone who is allergic to it.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantAnyone that has seen both Magic & Kobe play would say Magic is the Greatest Lakers..Kobe might be the better defender and better athlete.. Magic meant so much to that Organization and the NBA…And no way would this team be battling for a playoff spot if a young Magic was on it..They would have the nba’s best record and along the way they would have broking all types of records….

IndianaBasketballParticipantMagic played with great players from day one. What makes you think a young Magic would have this roster at the top of the NBA?
This team’s main problem is defense. How is Magic going to impact that end? He wasn’t even a great defender back in his own day.

flybobbyflyParticipantHow about a 34 year old magic though? Is it fair to compare old Kobe to young magic?
