rileymcshea3ParticipantI was looking at the 2012 mock draft and i scrolled down to the page and was looking at the outstanding trades section. As I was looking at the trades I noticed this
Cavs receive the Heat’s 2013 first-round pick (top 10 protected in 2013 and 2014, unprotected in 2015) (LeBron James trade 07-09-10)
So you see it says the Cavs recieve the Heat’s 2013 first-round pick. I understand that but what i dont understand is that its top 10 protected. As we all know the Heat in 2013 will most deffiantly not be one the bottom 10 teams of the league according to standings(unless Wade ,LeBron and Bosh suffer big injuries). So even though if the Heat finish the season with the best record in the NBA its still a top 10 pick for the Cavs???
And what made this pick top 10 protected? Did they just pick a random number or was it to was place the Heat were in at the time?
And if it is a top 10 pick does that mean they will have the positioning of the team with the 10th best odds of landing the first pick in the loto and knock a non playoff team out of the loto? And what if they do have that 10th best chance of landing the first pick of the loto (whith a slim chance of landing the first pick) but in the loto they go down a position and get the 11th pick ?
IDK IM SO CONFUSED PLEASE HELP ME

Anton123ParticipantTop 10 protected means that if it is top10, then the Cavs don’t get it.

Anton123ParticipantIf the Cavs don’t get it in 2013, they’ll get it in 2014, unless it is a top 10 pick again and if they don’t get it again, they’ll get it in 2015, no matter what the pick is (unprotected)
