TarHeelRavenParticipantHave any of you guys heard of this Prime Prep Academy that Mudiay attended for a couple years started by Deion Sanders? I just read an interesting article saying that the reason Emmanuel is playing overseas is because the NCAA most likely they have never accepted any transfer credits from the Prime Academy and he would not be deemed eligible by the NCAA. I didn’t know Mudiay had attended this school and it was an interesting read. It reminded me of a school in North Carolina where Antonio Brown went. I don’t remember the name of it but I saw a good piece on ESPN once and it seemed to have the same problems as this Prime Prep Academy with coursework. Just thought it was interesting to read about.

ropeParticipantIt has been under investigation since it opened. A couple of their DI level recruits from last year had trouble, too. It was never performing at even the basic level needed to be accredited. They sold this kid and others a bill of goods and, potentially, screwed up their futures. This story makes me worry a little about Josh Jackson, who is transferring from a HS in Detroit to a Prep School in California and is just opening. I would make sure they are a reputable and reliable operation before attending if I was a potential college recruit.

kazamParticipantIt is always sad to see stories like this, it’s not the coaches or the owners of these "prep" schools that suffer but only the young men that attend.
In Canada there was an interesting documentary done on a "prep school" run in North Carolina by a Canadian coach, Ro Russel. He had a couple of high profile kids (mostly Canadian kids) come through the program who had trouble gaining elibiligty for college athletics. Most notably was Braeden Anderson who was supposed to go to Kansas (i think) but couldnt gain eligibility.
The link for the documentary is below.

mixtape2003ParticipantYea I live in the area, and Sanders used to promote every week on the radio about prime prep when it first started. Only issues they have been having lately were adminstrative issue and miss use of money for food programs etc. I haven’t heard of any academic issues but the grad rate is 100% so after the Mudiay situation some people are questioning how hard this academy is. They might not even be open come fall cause of all the administative issues they are having.

ropeParticipantMany of these schools seem to be starting just to field "elite" sports teams. I read about one where nearly half of the students enrolled were on the boys basketaball team. That is suspect.
