RickyRubio9ParticipantAnother young stud in Augustin for the Young Talented Clippers?
Why not!?
I still think he’s a starter in this league;PG – Augustin, Bledsoe
SG – Eric Gordon
SF – Aminu
PF – Blake Griffin
C – DeAndre Jordan(Just listing their young guns for now)

llperezwhy would he bobcats do this? You could argue augustin is better then baron right now and he is still getting better and is a whole lot cheaper.

esperanzafleet69Participantperez… theres really zero argument saying augustine is better than baron.. baron is definately better, at least right now… still this doesnt seem like it would happen

llperezzero argument? Just watching them play, i would honestly take augustin this year. But lets look at stats:
DJ: 13.7ppg…5.9apg…3.1rpg…1.6to’s…43%fg…38%3pt…90%ft
baron: 9.6ppg…6.6apg…2.4rpg…2.2to’s…40%fg…20%3pt…65%ft
other then half an assists, dj wins every stat. ANd they both play on lousy teams so you cant use that argumetn for baron.

The Scare Crow ReturnsParticipantAnd I’m a big Augustine fan. Him with Gordon in the Clipper back court would be a 3 point shoot out every game. He’d help stretch the floor for Griffin and Aminu. I think the Bobcats could make a push over the next 2 years with the reunited B Daddy and Captain Jack duo. Wallace, Tyrus Thomas and Gerald Henderson provide the athletism the Cats need to run and gun with Baron. It makes sense to go for a playoff spot and wait for Diaw to roll of the books. They’ll still need a Center after any trade but maybe the Clippers move Kaman if the Bobcats include Thomas or their 1st round pick in 2011 They would be a very scary out in the playoffs. Baron, Jackson, Wallace, Diaw and Kaman would be a tough out in a 7 game series. They would have to come together quickly for the Cats to get a playoff spot and scare a contender.

the lake showBaron is clearly better…..When he is at his best. But thats the thing he hasn’t always been at his best this season. I think if he stays injury free then by the end of the year Baron will have completed a better season.

RP the PilotParticipantI see where perez is coming from but stats don’t always determine a players value. Baron Davis is a proven vet and with the right players around him he can become the star that he was again. Augustine is up and coming but lacks the experience the BD has.
The trade does make sense. Baron is sent to play with an old teammate in Jackson and with Wallace. Augustine does fit the young gun feel of the clippers as well. With one or two more pieces Charlotte becomes a better playoff contender

Forte IVParticipantthis deal came up about 3 or 4 weeks ago. i doubt it’ll happen now, especially since Diop is out 9 months to a year…

llperezeven at their "best" this season, dj has better games. He has scored 20+ 6 times. Baron has not done that yet. DJ has had 10+ assists 4 times. Baron only twice. SO even when they are both on their game, DJ has played better this year.
And spydaman, i know stats dont mean everything. But what has baron done to suggest he does the little things better and is more of a leader? Personally i htink the clippers have the better team. Everyone is talking about blake being an all-star and how gordan has really grown. Yet the clips are 11-24, 2 games behind augustins bobcats. I wish baron was back to his old ways. He used to be one of my favorite players coming out of ucla. But he aint the same any more and its gotten bad enough no more excuses about how if he was motivated or if he was healthy or if he had this team or that team. He aint bringing it.

The Scare Crow ReturnsParticipantEffort, statistics, health issues etc etc. But a shot in the arm like playing for the greatest player of all of time while fighting for your basketball reputation could be what Baron and Jackson/Wallace need right now. It’s worth the risk. The Cats are built to be a 2 year wonder anyway.

llperezif you factor in the contracts/age/potential for future, i take augustin. Jordan would really start raising some eyebrows if he made this trade. The bobcats need to shed money and get younger, not add salary and get older.
And by the way, im a bit of a sixers fan and have been predictin them to make the playoffs this year, but jesus i didnt realize it would be becasue the 8th seed in the east would have about 30 wins.

the lake showBut i would make the trade because of long term and Barons contract. Talent wise Baron is a better player when in top shape and healthy but he’s also older and this clipper team isn’t gonna be a playoff team for possible a good 5 more years at the earliest

llperezthats why i said at their best "this season". So then this baron vs DJ comparison is based on barons past years? My thing with baron is that every single year we hear about how he is fginally motivated and he finally is in shape and every single year he gets worse. I know what he is capable of as an athlete and baron even close to where he has been in the past would never be compared to dj augustin. BUt those days are gone im afraid.

BKKnicksfanParticipantI watched DJ play…there just seems to be something missing there. Diop probably won’t be in the deal now correct?
I think Davis would WORK with Jordan. Jordan is not gonna have Davis playing overwieght and such on HIS team. Him and Charles Oakley won’t have it.

The Scare Crow ReturnsParticipantHe’s there 4 toughness not whipping guys into shape. I really wish Jordan would come in coach this team. I don’t think it will ever happen but being coached by the GOAT would be a good selling point.

joecheck88Participanti think for the bobcats, davis is an upgrade over augustin right now. i think a motivated baron still has 15 and 8 left in him.
augustin is a backup to me. maybe that because he has been playing for larry brown tho. but i do think that he is too small to be a serious title contending team starting pg.
really the best part of the trade for the clippers is getting rid of baron and his contract. if im la i do this trade in a minute. also, for charlotte, i think this makes them a 7 or 8 seed again in the east. and if thats what management wants, then it makes sense. the clippers should try to move kaman as well, if just for getting more playing time for jordan. i would trade him to detroit for prince, if they would take it. someone like prince is needed on young teams for leadership, plus he has always been a worker and would rub off on the younger guys and could teach aminu a few things, like defense and post play.

NarcParticipantWhen Baron is MOTIVATED, he is clearly better. Right now he is barely in shape, shoots his usual horrible percentages and has a bad contract. I wouldn’t pull this deal if I’m the Bobcat brass. Augustine has shown improvement and he has always been a good 3 pt shooter, he’s just on the small side.
0- Posted on: Fri, 01/07/2011 - 3:22pm #472404
lowryfoyerayParticipantI would do this in a second if I was the clippers, I’m a big augustin fan, he can get to any spot he wants to on the court, and put him with the athletes than the clips have, they’ll be fun to watch for sure.
