anthony_DavIS23ParticipantTake any of the past ten drafts and you’ll find at least three second round picks turn out to be serviceable players
http://www.nbadraft.net/forum/1st-round-draft-busts2nd-round-draft-steals-last-10-years
With that being said, who in this years class has the best opportunity to become serviceable NBA players. In my opinion Robert Upshaw has as high an upside as almost everyone in the draft (except for the top 10 perhaps)
A legit 7fter with a huge 7’5 wingspan and a solid 260 pound frame. He has good mobility for a player his size. He runs the floor well and plays above the rim. He was the best shot blocker in the country before he was dismissed.
I feel as though he will fall in the draft due to character issues and also a potential problem with his heart but if he lands in the right situation he is very likely to be a potential steal in this draftAnother potential steal i believe is Cliff Alexander. As a Kansas fan i watched a lot of his games and while many analysts found him unimpressive i was actually was highly impressed. He is athletic, one of the best offensive rebounders ive seen and showed promise as a mid range shooter. He plays with a very high motor and runs the floor very well.
Other potential steals to me include: Andrew Harrison, Rakeem Christmas and Michael Frazier.

DIOFREParticipanti really dont understand why shooters still arent valuad higher, as it should be.
shooters as frazier and rj hunter are expected to go to the end of the second round and its not like they are bad athleats..

OrlandoRickParticipantI think Connaughton from Notre Dame has a chance to surprise as a second rounder. He shoots it well and I’m sorry I never thought dude would post a 44" vertical at the combine so he’s clearly much more athletic than I gave him credit. I like his skills so I’d give him a shot to be a value pick in the second round.

Buckets21ParticipantConnaughton does not actually have a 44 inch vertical. He is a very good athlete, but he obviously tanked his standing reach measurement at the combine to increase his vertical. The guy is 6’05.25 w/shoes and has a 6’08.75 wingspan, yet his standing reach is 8’0. T.J. McConnell is 6’02 w/ a 6’02 wingspan and has a higher standing reach. Connaughton’s standing reach should have been somewhere in the 8’04-8’07 range making his vertical somewhere between 37-40 inches, which is outstanding, but there is no way he jumpred 44 inches.
This doesn’t matter all that much, because at the end of the day he’s still athletic and he can still shoot, but his standing reach measurement was too glaring not to point out

Oliver Hanlan (Role as scoring sixth man)
Terrance Pettway (High Energy guy..could have a decent career)

SantaTheClauseParticipantPlayers I think will be a steal in the 2nd round are; Cliff Alexander, Dakari Johnson, JP Tokoto. Cliff has a lot of potential, Dakari will be like a Tarik black and come in and help off the bench, and Tokoto was hyped a lot in the past so I believe he has a lot of potential still. And a wild card that I dont really like for some reason being a big ten rival team fan, is Travis Trice. He just seems like he can come in and be a decent back up point guard and make some baskets off the bench for a team.

ChicagoCaseyParticipantI have to go with Cliff Alexander. At worst he’s Trevor Booker who is a solid back up energy guy that can knock down a mid range jump shot, block shots, PnR defense, offensive/defensive rebounding, and finish at the rim. At best I see Paul Millsap if he develops the 3 and improve his handle.
Robert Upshaw is another. He’s a physical force and can be a great rim protector like Rudy Gobert. If he keep his head on straight he can be a steal like DeAndre Jordan was when he was selected in the second round.
Olivier Hanlan. He is a 6’4" point guard, by some, that can shoot the ball and have the ability to play both back court positions.

DukeBlue22ParticipantHas been impressing in workouts. He is working on his outside shooting and hustles both on offense and defense. He would be a good fit for a team giving 10-15 minutes off the bench.

Robb_CParticipantCliff Alexander is not the brightest crayon in the box, that’s the big reason why teams are gunshy on him.. He’s talented but he’s not ready for the NBA..

cycloParticipantIf Joseph Young falls to the second round he could be an absolute steal as he may turn out better than every PG drafted outside the lottery. Super athletic pure shooter with a PG handle and crafty penetration skills.

mcgee555ParticipantSeth Tuttle from Northern Iowa. Tuttle is undersized, slow, and from a small school, but he might have the highest basketball IQ, passing, and footwork out of the big men in this draft class. His shot is fairly quick for a PF with great range which allowed him to be very successful in pick and roll/pop option plays at UNI. He stuffed stat sheets in college leading the Panthers in points (15.3), rebounds (6.9), assists (3.3), blocks (0.6), and FG% (60.4)… this on a team that slowed it down so much that it averaged less than 60 possessions per game. I found his field goal percentage especially impressive considering he had among the highest usage rates in the country. All-in-all he had the second highest PER in the country (following Kaminsky).
Tuttle’s weaknesses are glaring and make it very difficult to be successful in a league like the NBA. I do think, however, that his experience in the pick and roll (pop) and his passing gives him the ability to be very dangerous in short spurts off the bench. If someone gives him a chance he could very easily develop into a mix-it-up type of guy like Boris Diaw.
