jjonzParticipantThey are envogue now eveybody wants one. But the last Top 5 point Guard to lead their team to a Championship was Zeke/I.Thomas. C.Billups was drafted 3rd overall. But teams gave up on him early in his career. And he bounced around before landing in the perfect place. So how important are PG anyway if 20 out of the last 22 Champions have not had an elite PG @ the helm.

ilike.panochasParticipantDefense more than anything wins championships, and the last few champions have had either a Center or a PF anchoring a defense (Spurs, Boston, Lakers, Pistons, and you can go back in history most have had a defensive anchoring PF/C). A good PG is essential but you don’t need an “elite” PG to win one, I would rather have an elite defensive Center over an elite PG to start a franchise (Dwight Howard > any PG in the NBA to start a franchise).

LAKE SHOWYou dont need to have a elite PG or C to win a title. OR elite PF. I think some teams have won without a elite SF and SG as well

ilike.panochasParticipantAnd this is coming from a fan who has an elite PF (Gasol) and an elite SG (Kobe). SMH

LAKE SHOWI’m looking at Teams that have one it before without each and not just looking at a the team i like since the Lakers havn’t won every single title every year. Bulls won it with Bill Cartwright and H.Grant both good but not elite

llperezi think pg is just as important as any other position. It just so happens that phil jackson has put together a bunch of teams in the 90’s and 2000’s with an offense that doesnt really use a natural pg. But billups and parker were both top notch pg’s when their teams won. Many teams that have came in second have had great pg’s like kevin johnson, gary payton, john stockton, jason kidd. And obviously the pg position in the 80s was huge with guys like magic and isiah leading the way.

jjonzParticipanti believe that was my point of reference that i was looking @ Bulls/Lakers who do not have a need for traditional PG.
