I believe Phoenix will select Luka Doncic with the first overall selection. They will then proceed to offer Aaron Gordon a max contract this summer, and Orlando will not match.

They will let Elfrid Payton walk (he was terrible the end of the season) and will select a point guard (not sure who, yet) with their additional first round pick due to them from Miami via the Goran Dragic trade.

Doncic could play point guard for them….. but they’ll hedge and select a more traditional PG, that can shoot, since it’s still unknown which position Doncic best defends.

It’s like who would you rather have, Simmons or Embiid?  I take a big who can dish all day.   Doncic can actually shoot too!

    Jackson to Hornets for Kemba.

Max to Capela (even better chance of Rockets not matching due to cap).

Kemba, Booker, Doncic, Chriss, Capela can compete immediately next year.

Doncic, Booker and Kemba all need the ball to make plays so I’m not sure how that would work.  Also seems way too early to give up on Jackson who played great in the 2nd half.  Especially for a 28 yr old in his prime when the rest of the team is super young.  The timelines won’t match up.

But I disagree with them going for another PG.  I think they have to go best big man available out of Robert Williams, Bruno Fernando, Mitchell Robinson or Omari Spellman.  They should take the big with the best defensive potential as the Suns will still be horrible on that end as Luka will not help their struggles. Would love to see them sign Gordon tho.

I think theyll take Doncic as well and offer Capela the max. If its Aaron Gordon they offer after the Rockets match the Capela offer, trying for Gordon may be the right  play – (Booker, Jackson, Doncic, Gordon is promising) but they will still need to look at acquiring another 5, perhaps using Warren. Mitchell Robinson is possible at 16, but I also think Collin Sexton may still be available after looking at the draft board. Im not sold on the Gordon play, but you may be right.

Could they trade 16 and Warren somewhere to also get Bamba? Thatd be the move.

I feel like they probably take DeAndre Ayton. His size, athleticism, and offensive skill will be too much to pass on. He projects as a potential future superstar. Doncic will undoubtedly be considered but I think Ayton is the pick for Phoenix.

Chriss, Warren and #16 to Memphis for #4 to get Bamba? Surely Memphis would say yes.. Phoenix would have to be sure about Bamba but i think he has the potential to really be like Gobert or Bol on defense with a 9’8" standing reach

If the Suns were starting from scatch I would consider taking Doncic. But the fact that their two high level prospects (Booker and Jackson) and solid young player on a good contract (Warren) all play the wing, I am not sure that you invest this #1 pick in another wing to duplicate positions. If you are the Suns, dont over think it! Take Ayton #1 for a franchise center (which the Suns have never had). Go best available at #16 with the hope that Shai falls, and then take top PG prospect at #31. Then in free agency don’t go crazy and overpay guys like Gordon. Use your cap space to find a point guard that can start and be on a decent contract. Some guys that come to mind are Marcus Smart or Donte Exum. Then try to find a veteran PF that can compete with Chriss and Bender.

Lineup for Suns could look like:

Starters: Smart, Booker, Jackson, Bender, Ayton

Bench: Gilgeous-Alexander (or Brunson), Warren, Chriss, Chandler, and some veterans.

That’s largely how I feel the Suns should proceed as well. The Suns best young players are on the wing and Ayton looks too good to pass up. The Suns would be wise not to overpay anyone long term right now because it will likely be a few years before they are even talking about making the playoffs and even if it’s sooner it will be hard to compete if they make it.

I like them taking a PG at 16. SGA, Aaron Holiday etc.. Ayton at 1 is a must.

I have Jalen Brunson as a sure-fire lock at that spot, until I see anything different with his stock.

I think this is the right move, but they won’t do it. The Luka hype train is picking up steam and the fact that his former coach is leading the Suns makes this a pretty predictable outcome. Personally, I think it’s a mistake. Despite having Booker, Phoenix was one of the worst teams in the league in shooting %. I think Luka can be an all-star, but it has to be on a team with more weapons. Outside of Booker, Warren and Jackson, this team is thin.

he doesn’t fit well with Booker, Warren and Jackson already in the roster. It would be a big risk to pass on a dominant big like Ayton who has played for Arizona and will sell tickets.

I’d be slightly surprised if Phoenix chased a PF or C in FA even if they let Len walk unless they did decide to pass on Ayton.

How you could fit Doncic, Warren and Jackson in I’m not sure unless they play Doncic as a full time PG or go for a smallball line up.

If Orlando decided not to match Gordon, I’d be hesitant in chasing him, there would be a good reason they didn’t match.

Capela has been linked with them but to move him from a contender would require a big outlay and I think Capela fits perfectly in the Houston system. He is a good player but the likes of CP3 and Harden maybe inflate his numbers a bit under the D’Antoni system.

16th pick is an interesting one and I agree Shai Gilgeous-Alexander would be a good fit there, he may be off the draft board by then but if they really wanted him then 16th and 31st could be use to trade up possibly for one of the Clippers’ picks. The Suns get their guy, the Clips only move down a few spaces so can still get a good guy and have a nice wildcard with 31st pick to shot at best of the rest.
