HitsterParticipantI always see the NCAA as a load of rich aged prep boys who live off trust funds and believe in the old Olympic ideals. I always wonder if all the major US sports brands, NFL,NBA,MLB etc decided to set up their own development programmes then how revelant the NCAA would actually be.

The Scare Crow ReturnsParticipantSo a college kid has to be piss poor while playing for the university that makes millions off the sports programs they play for…

TyroberParticipantI honestly think these kids should be paid. They make the university so much money and I dont see anything wrong with them being paid a max number of 100k or something. That way people cant outspend each other and a school cant just buy a championship but give these guys some money. Its ridiculous

HitsterParticipantNice idea Tyrober as it could be the ideal way to help players mature both on and off court especially if the NBA try to increase the one year removed rule and it might stop players looking to go abroad.

The Scare Crow ReturnsParticipantI don’t think they should be paid a whooping 100 grand per college season, most universities couldn’t afford that for every player per every year…now if u gave them a reasonable allowance they would be less likely to take impermissible benefits and cause a lot less violations that only ruin players reputation and cost coaches jobs…bigger schools would out pay other schools in the ” 100 k for play ” theory…but if every school had let’s say a 10 grand per college season allowance these kids like Perry Jones and his family can operate without breaking rules left and right…

TyroberParticipant100,000 to Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina etc. is pennies. The average tuition to Duke is around 50k. Kentuckys out of state tuition is almost 20k. 100,000 dollars is absolutely nothing to these big schools and its not like if they pay a great athlete 100k that they arent going to make that back immediately. These schools make MILLIONS of dollars on these "student athletes". I 100% believe they should be paid. When they go to the NBA they start making millions from the start. Why? Because they make the owners millions of dollars

TyroberParticipantAnd your only looking at a small select group that would be making 100k. You would only need to give that to top 50 recruits so thats 5million which isnt even a drop in the bucket to the college basketball industry.

The lake show2Also you gotta remember if they do it for one sport they will have to do it for all the sports at there school. People may say " well you’re sport doesn’t bring in alot of money and doesn’t have these problems" so the kids will start to talk to agents and get benifits so eventually the school will have to pay them as well

The Scare Crow ReturnsParticipantHow about whoever has a better plan than mine speak up and tell me why our opinion is so much better than mine…100 k per student athlete per college per sports program per sport, that’s a ton of money being talked about like its thump change…and then the top 50 recruits getting paid 100 k while the lesser talent gets what?…think it through…every student athlete in every sports program should be given the same allowances and treatment, that way no one feels ripped off because a guy is making more because he was a more hyped up recruit…

HitsterParticipantThese colleges can afford to play head coaches over $3 million for a season less than half as long as an NBA one. Also how much revenue do the strong American Football colleges make when they can fill those vast stadiums.
The payments could be done on a sliding scale or maybe increased if they return for their sophomore year etc.
