I saw Perry Jones play today live I see exactly why scouts fall in love with this guy but he’s a big tease. He coasts through the majority of the game and here and there he gives you glimpses of what he can be. In the game he made a string of plays were he had a putback jam and a three pointer and it was like he’s ready to take over then he cruised the rest of the game. It can be one or two reasons he isn’t dominating it could be because he knows baylor is ladareuis dunns team this year and he doesn’t wanna cause problems or he really lacks the competitive nature to take over. He likely won’t be back for another year but if he did come back he could develop like Blake griffin did. Jones and Barnes both have all the skill and athleticism that screams star they just need someone to light a fire under them.

I completely agree. He has all the tools to dominate, but he just coast. For me, he has exceeded expecations because I didn’t think that he would be producing the way he is right now because of his low production in high school.

In last nights game though, I came away very impressed with Lace Dunn. His shot wasn’t falling and his team was down by 19, but he basically rallied his team back by himself. He was very aggressive and and his team eventually took the lead. He has that assassins-mentallity.

On a team with older players that are trying to go Pro. I like what I have seen from him. The NBA is a more open game with one on one play. His jump shot is very good from mid range wich will help him a lot in the NBA. He takes bigger guys off the dribble easily when he gets a chance. I like the way he boards, even the way he boxes out as soon as the shot goes up he bodies a man. I like him the most in this class in the NBA game. Sullinger is still a monster though.

He’s playing well but that’s not a good thing if you are expecting him to be a franchise player. Those type of players don’t hold back because they have Sr.s or guys on there team who want to go pro. Everyone wants to go pro so you will always have to deal with that. You’re exactly right he does Coast alot and that’s been a issue since HS. Hopefully he will get a coach in the NBA that makes him go hard all the time or Baylor Coach will get him to go hard all the time like Coach Cal did with Cousins

He wont go no.1, i guarantee it. Hes in that prime 3-4 Favors range of just hoping a guy is going to reach his potential.

only thing I see he proved to me is he can play alot of 3 i didnt know he can handle the ball that well to be 6’11” somewhat like rashard lewis rookie yr they didnt know if he was a 3 or 4 man. with his potential plus versitility theres no doubt he will be a top 3 pick….the question is can he keep that killer instinct for 48 mins and not 15

Perry Jones is easily a 3 in the NBA with the size to play Power Forward.  But he is too much of a mismatch and too athletic not to play him at 3.  I thought he was going to be the number one pick coming into the year but his upside still bothers me.  It think it’s more Josh Smith then Durant.  He is still going to be a very good player.  He got a better motor then people give him credit for and has refined a lot of his skills.  Plus that length and athleticism is hard to pass up.

I think he’s a face-up PF. He reminds me of Andray Blatche still. He has some mid-range face-up ability and is a solid shooter from 15-18, he’s a good looking passer in the high or low post, and he’s a good athlete with nice smoothness. He’s should definitely be more aggressive, but he’s been productive enough to know he’ll be a pretty good player in the NBA. I don’t think he’s a franchise talent, but he’d be a good 2nd or 3rd option down the line. He’s not the killer he needs to be for him to be a true franchise player.

He has reminded me of a young Rashard Lewis at times.

I think he’s a 3 at the next level. He has all the tools to be a great perimeter defender, but when he defends the post, he gets pushed around by bigger, stronger big men. I think he’s weighs in at 220 right now, and you can’t play PF in the NBA when you weigh that little, and he has a narrow frame, so I don’t think he will be able to add 30-40 lbs. 230-235 will probably be his playing weight in the NBA.  He is quick enough, and long enough to defend SF’s at the next level. His handle is phenomenal. He’s under control, and has advanced skills like spins, hesitation, and quick changes of direction. He has solid mechanics on his jumpshot, and his jumpshot can become a dangerous weapon in the NBA if he keeps adding range to it. He doesn’t have good rebounding fundamentals, mainly getting boards based on his length and athleticism. He doesn’t box out, and doesn’t fight for position. His footwork in the post is suspect and his post moves are non-existant. All of his strenghts and weaknesses point to a WING player. If he plays SF, I think he can end up being a Durant-lite, but if he plays PF, he can end up like a player like Anthony Randolph.

I disagree with the vast majority of your post WizardofOz.

If he plays SF, he will be nothing like Kevin Durant. Perry Jones has nowhere near Durant’s perimeter skill set. He doesn’t have legit college 3-point range, let alone the NBA range Durant has, or had even in his freshman year at Texas. He never will have Durant’s shooting stroke either. Jones isn’t as aggressive looking for his own shot, and will never shoot or score as much as Durant. He also isn’t nearly as good off the dribble against SF’s as Durant is. I watched Jones against Gonzaga, and when he played SF he broke no one down off the dribble and got a travel and a 5 second called on him when he tried to work on the perimeter in limited action. He doesn’t possess the handles Durant does, especially when looking to make room to score the ball. He can take PF’s off the bounce, but he struggles to get clean looks against perimeter defenders. And that’s saying something, because Baylor has faced no noteworthy perimeter defenders in the games I’ve watched him play. He will be able to play SF, probably for extended minutes in the NBA, but it would be wise to use a guy who is more of a mismatch at PF at that spot on offense more often than not. He is better the closer he is to the rim, which usually is a sign of PF, especially if you’re 6’11 225-230.

Jones also does a solid job of boxing out and getting rebounds, mostly those that are in his area though. He’s not an elite rebounder, but I think he can be a 7-8 rpg guy in the NBA sooner or later just by rebounding his area well. He’s not the best at boxing out, neither was Ekpe Udoh at Baylor, but I think he’s a decent rebounder from either forward spot.

His post footwork isn’t "non-existant" at all really. He’s not Pau Gasol, but he has functional feet down low to make basic moves like up and unders and jump hooks, which are going to be all he needs to use given his length and athleticism. He doesn’t need to try and do too much, and Baylor doesn’t ask him to.

How is he easily a three in the NBA?..have you watched any of his games? If so you can clearly see he is not easily a three and that hes gonna have to work on his SF game to become a NBA three. His handles is not phenomenal and I’m starting to think you haven’t watched him play. He has good handles but phenomenal is a BIG stretch. And all good athletes have the tools to be great defenders but most don’t end up becoming that. Those that do are the ones that work hard on the defensive end and give max effort most if not all the time
