Lotto StudParticipantIs Perry Jones better suited for the block or the wing in Baylor’s system?

stanford hoopsBlock. His handles isn’t good enough to get in the lane. And his jumper is shakey. He’s more effective near the basket with his length and athletic ability

goodsontheParticipantHe has to play within the teams concept, dude is going to be a beast. He’s extremely comfortable snatching the rebound and bringing the ball up the court. I think he’s not going any lower than #2 in the draft. I like what I’ve seen from him so far.

JoeWolf1In college a 7 foot guy who can face up can do much more damage on the block than on the wing. He’s gonna match up against teams who’s tallest guys are 6’8 -6’9” and him taking lower percentage shots on the wing would make him far less effective than using his height on the block and facing up time to time in order to keep the defender on his toes.

scoutguruParticipantUnfortunately Rudeboy, the NBA drafts on potential (most of the time), not production, and he has about as much of that as a young prospect can have. And when you have that high upside, your subsequently a high first round pick usually…and this is the case with Perry. I personally don’t see him as anything special for the next level, just another guy really…who’ll never reach his potential that these scouts (not himself) have been placed on him. Should be a solid pro though.. has a good frame on him. But I don’t know what he does great, that’s jaw dropping.

MkadozaParticipantI hope Scott Drew forces him to get 50% of his touches on post-ups. This kid has to get more physical. He has the floating on the perimeter syndrome that someone of his size and skillset should not have! He’s freaking Anthony Randolph 2.

HitsterParticipantJones needs to be able to play both roles and in the modern day NBA many PF’s have genuine 3 point range and can both rebound and play on the block. But for Baylor I’d certainly prefer to see him playing on the block as his height can create mismatches on occasions.
I quite like the Lemar Odom comparision for Perry Jones as whilst Lemar hasn’t ever become an All Star he has been a highly effective NBA player over 11 years and has helped the Lakers to two titles and has career stats of 14.5ppg, 9rpg and 1bpg. Whilst it may be hoped that Perry Jones may have more upside having a similar career to Lemar as a mid level potential prediction would seem a fair comparision.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantPerry Jones doesnt take over games like Durant or even Beasley did…Even though i think he’s going to turn pro after the season..Some teams will be fooled into taking him high based on his protential..I see the same traits that guys like Gerald Green,Anthony Randolph,Jared Jefferies and Darius Miles had…But if he sticks around another year or 2 he can be more seasoned and have a better understanding of the game ..Than those guys did when they entered the league…

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantSo because he didn’t come out of the gate with guns blazing (though 14-11-4 against LaSalle is absolutely nothing to sneeze at), you are comparing him to three guys who showed little interest in working on their games and Jared Jeffries?
Gren Oden- first game, 14 points, 10 rebounds, 5 blocks (the horror of 14-11-4).
Russell Westbrook- first game, 10 points, 2-6 shooting, 6 TOs.
DeMarcus Cousins- first game, 7 points, 4 rebounds, fouls out in 18 minutes
Derrick Favors, first game 10 points, 8 rebounds
Brook Lopez- first five games, 8 points and 2 rebounds per game
Rajon Rondo- one double digit scoring effort in first ten games
Ease up.

HitsterParticipantPerry has put up a few nice performances for Baylor so far but his stock will be judged across the whole NCAA season and any games against other top prospects will be watched with huge interest by all NBA scouts so to make any assymptions after just two games is very premature. Any March Madness run by Baylor could also hugely affect his stock as he could come face to face with many other top prospects. Also throw in the NBA combine, visits, workouts and interviews with prospective teams come draft time and you see how far Perry’s draft status has to go.
At the moment his solid performances certainly keep him in his current draft range and the longer he maintains this then the greater momentum his stock can gain.

stanford hoopsThe guy isn’t a bum by no means and he isn’t durant or beasley by any means. He’s a raw freshman with potential. You’re kidding you’re self if u expect him to dominate and the same goes if you expect him to be a bum.
8-12 Pts and 7-9 rebounds is very realistic for him this season

StF616ParticipantHe is actually doing better than what i expected him to do,
Though he needs to shoto at a better percentage (40%) He has really shown his potential, You saw his athleticism and even brought it up the court a couple times after a rebound, he is averaging 9.5 rebounds and had 4 blocks in the game against la salle, he still has alot to improve but he is doing good so far through the season
