It appears likely from multiple sources that the Pacers will trade PG13 after he has announced he won’t be resigning after 2018. He says the Lakers are his targeted destination.

This sucks for the Pacers, because they have to trade him to try and get something in return for fear of losing him for nothing. This couldn’t be a more perfect opportunity for Cleveland to try and get him for cheap. Try to win a ring next year, and then convince him to stay.

At the same time it’s incredibly risky for anyone other than LA to trade for him, but there are a few teams that are competitive that might be willing to roll the dice for a year of PG13 in hopes he might change his mind and consider staying somewhere other than LA.

The teams that come to mind are the Cavs, Spurs, Boston, and obviously Lakers would be ideal. Can you see anyone else even attempting to get PG13?

There is only 1 team I can see trading for him and thats the Cavs, but I don’t think they have the assets the Pacers want. At this point, they may just have to take whatever they can get. If i’m the pacers, I just want draft picks. I would ask for 3 unprotected picks starting in 2020. 2020,2021,2022. I don’t want Kevin Love or anyone on the Cavs, just draft picks, unprotected ones. Move on from PG. 

If PG ends up not getting traded, he is going to be booed relentlessly by Pacer fans and probably the rest of the league. 

I do feel kind of bad for teams like the Jazz, Pacers and Pelicans because nobody really wants to be there. I definately see Anthony as the next big star to leave the Pelicans one day to chase a ring. 

 At the end of the day, at least PG isn’t joining the Warriors. He’ll be joining a medicore team that has to find its identity which could take a few more years. Best of luck

 each one is a dick move in its way. KD jumping ship to an already stacked GS Warrior team was bad for a lot of reasons. What PG is doing is basically telling the Cavs, "sorry, you can’t trade me" because nobody is going to want to rent him for 1 year. Pacers will be lucky to get any value for him at this point.

ESPN says the Cavs are talking to the Pacers about Paul George.

This is probably their chance to close the gap — even a little bit, and it would STILL be up in the air — with the Golden State Warriors.

This would mean, basically, that the era of LeBron as a small forward, is OVER.  He has two rings with the Heat with him basically playing power forward… at least on offense.

LeBron and Paul George at the forward spots — that is some FIRE POWER.  Two great scorers too, who can also handle the ball, rebound, and make plays.  Those two with Kyrie Irving make for a better BIG THREE.  Their BIG FOUR of LeBron, PG13, Kyrie, and TT match up very, very well with the Warriors BIG FOUR of Steph, KD, Klay, and Draymond.  

Great matchup with the Celtics who aren’t that big anyway.  So, this gets them out of the ECF.

They can go small in a MEGA SMALL LINEUP to matchup with a possible Warriors five of McCaw, Steph, Klay, Iggy, and Kevin Durant with Kyrie, Kyle Korver/Shump, JR Smith, Paul George, and LeBron.

Or, they can get really big really quick with LeBron, Paul George, Richard Jefferson, TT, and Channing Frye.

The Cavs NEED to get this done.

They aren’t built to go big, and the league is going small anyway.  So, they should go FULL SMALL.  

TT can now concentrate on rebounding and rim protection.  Give you 5 or 6 points but try to get 15-20 rebounds a game like Dennis Rodman, but better at shot blocking, rim protecting, and throwing down alley-oops.

The Cavs probably needs another piece or two if they wanna close the gap even more with GS.

So, on this trade they should also throw in Shump, Kay Felder, cash, a future 1st rounder, and a future 2nd rounder to go with Kevin Love to get Monta Ellis and the 47th pick to go along with Paul George.

Monta gives them a solid option at backup point guard.  He is a score first guy who can get you some points off the bench pretty quick.  Pretty good in the mid-range.  If the Warriors go small, they can put Monta at the 2 with Kyrie at the point guard spot.

At 47, they can get someone cheap and young to fill out the rest of their team.

Monta Ellis is no longer a top 3 option, but he is still usefull of the bench with scoring the ball and chipping in as a backup point guard (assuming… didn’t really follow him this year).

 this just increases the odds he is being moved to Boston after the sixers trade Ainge pulled off. Looks like Celtics do come out the winners in this deal and INdy gets a top 3 draft pick probably Tatum or Jackson is who they want which further justifies the speculations that that is whom Boston is picking at 3. esp if Ainge and Indy are convinced Ball is a Laker if Jackson is the Indy Target. Even if Jackson goes to the Lakers Indy would be dumb not to do this if it also gets them the brooklyn pick 2018 and matching salary return because even if they have to absorb Zellers C they will still get Smart & Crowder likely in the deal.

Or could be Ainge is not trading the 3rd, but is using the philly aquired futures only along with current roster salary match of a rotation player and a starter to get PG13.

 he would stay in Boston under most circumstances, I doubt because he "wants" to play in LA doesn’t mean he would walk away from a chance to contend in the East and maybe contend for a championship in 3-4 years in Boston. It’s really just an excuse to leave saying he wants to go home and play with the Lakers where his odds are a lot less at being a contender until much farther down the road. they are 5-6 years from contending not 3-4. But you are right he might think he is good enough to take LA over that mountain alone…and would leave Boston.

 PG to the Cavs makes TOO MUCH SENSE.

Cavs have to go ALL IN anyway.  Too much risk of LeBron leaving.

Even if he DOES, with Paul George, then you do a MEGA TRADE with the Lakers (if LBJ and PG go to the LAL).  You get AT LEAST D’Angelo Russell and Julius Randle.  Probably Clarkson and some extra picks.  maybe even Brandon Ingram.

C’s are really rolling the dice.  DON’T LIKE a one year Paul George rental EITHER.  They STILL won’t be better than the Warriors.  

I don’t think Josh Jackson makes the Celtics better than the Warriors EITHER but that is a story for another day.

What do you think Kevin Love could bring to Indiana? I am talking in terms of prospects and picks rather than him actually playing for them.
I think he fits in Utah and a young guy like Hood and 2017 1st rounder could be a start.

I don’t love the idea of Paul George on the Cavs … three superstars is one thing, but three ball-dominant superstars is a whole different thing. I can’t think of a time that’s worked, if it’s ever even been tried. 

Looking at recent champions, the Warriors only have two ball-dominant guys. The Cavs had two. The Spurs had none. The Heat had two. Mavs had one. Lakers had one (the Kobe/Gasol Lakers I mean. Kobe/Shaq Lakers had two.)

Love takes a lot of crap, but he’s perfect offensively for the Cavs — like Bosh was for the Heat — because he doesn’t demand postups or plays run for him. He rebounds, passes and shoots when he’s open. His defense is a different story — but Paul George can’t guard some 4s, and for LeBron to do it game in, game out is asking a lot out of a body that has a ton of miles on it.

I get that PG is probably a better all-around player than KLove, but it’s about fit. Throw in the likelihood that PG is a one-year rental, and I don’t want to make this deal if I’m the Cavs.

Honestly one of the strongest parts of PGs game is his ability to run off of screens for jumpers.

Now it’s be on Coach Lue and the Cavs to put an offense in place that allows PG to use this ability, but if they can he fits unbelievably well in Cleveland.

 I’d like to see some random team take a crack at PG by offering unconditional 1st  rounder/s and give their fans a year of belief. After the Nets’ "worst trade in history", surely Indiana will entertain pulling the trigger if they get an offer. A team would have to show some huge balls to  offer 1st rounders like the Nets again, but if someone like Memphis, Milwaukee, Philly or New Orleans could keep their current players, add George and have one memorable year, surely it beats continual mediocrity?

Not sure any of these would be strong enough to carry a squad all the way but it’d be fun to watch them try for a year..

They’re the only one that really makes sense. Mepmphis kind of does, but not really their style. The other two are up and coming, and don’t want to short-circuit their evolution for a one-year flier. The Pelicans on the other hand, might make sense, because Boogie’s probably gone if they don’t do something fairly significant to improve the roster around him & AD. Give up a couple first rounders, one with top 3-5 protection and the other unprotected (Indy isn’t getting a better offer than that) and give it a go.

Best case, it works great and everyone re-signs. Worst case, they probably have to trade Davis to recoup the picks since they won’t be able to surround him with enough talent (Hello Boston and their treasure trove of picks) and he’d probably leave on his own the next year anyway, and start over from scratch. At least it’s a plan, which is more than they seem to have at the moment.

 Not sure this is something that Boston/Cleveland would participate in being that they are principal rivals in the East….but I think it could work for both sides and improve them both significantly while IND reloads for the future.

Cleveland gets: PGeorge, Thad Young, CJ Miles

-Adding Young and Miles with the Obvious PG addition I think is a large upgrade over what the Cavs had this season.

-Irving, George, James, Thad, Thompson as your starters w/ Smith, Korver, Frye and the obligatory FA additions to come is a pretty nice team.

 

Boston gets: Kevin Love, Shumpert

– Adding Love, Shump and can still go after Gordon Hayward.  If they can land him then they are also significantly iproved squad as well.  

– Boston also maintains next years Laker pick from the Phili trade so they dont lose all assets in this deal either.

-Thomas, Bradley, Hayward, Love, Horford is a nasty starting unit with Rozier, Shump, Crowder, Olynyck + a FA or two is a pretty stellar bench too.

 

Indiana gets: Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart, 2017 #3, 2018 Brooklyn Pick, 2019 Sac 1st,  Future Cleveland 1st

– building for the future with a nucleus of Smart, Brown and Turner plus #3 and what will likely be 2 lotto picks in both 2018 and 2019 (Their own and the Brook and Sac picks)

Would the Pacers do Paul George for K-Love straight up as both were All Star’s this year and are under two years apart in age. K-Love would probably score as much as PG13 did for the Pacers and if K-Love is angry about being moved then he’ll really get his tail up.

The Pacers get an All Star in return and he’d have two guaranteed years on his deal. Plus if they get K-Love they have someone of trade value so could get a better return than a wantaway PG13.

It still smacks of being a bit disrespectful to K-Love that Cavs dump him because LBJ might move on. What would happen if PG13 went there and had a mega star and possibly became MVP and then said to resign he wants LBJ gone. The same thing happened with Kobe’s team mates in LA.

There have also been rumours that LBJ wants to go to LA either Lakers or Clippers next summer as he doesn’t see eye to eye with Dan Gilbert and his children are schooled in LA too.

 PG is lebron’s lifeboat if he ever wants to get another ring, so it should already be clear by now, that PG will play next year next to james, whether in cleveland or in LA…
