phila9012ParticipantHe isn’t an mvp canidate, but he is an all star. The bulls front court is the deepest in the league, they have 4 bigmen who could start for playoff teams. The bulls 2 all stars will be butler and gasol. I am suprised how well this team came together. They needed a second option to rose and they got a first option in Butler and a second option in gasol. They got bench scoring with mirotic and aaron brooks. This team is deep and has scoring while also still having a great defense.

TimeForNineParticipantI think you can honestly say that, at this point, Derrick Rose is the third best player on the team.

ExumInfernoParticipantRose is 9th on the Bulls for field goal percentage, and 3-point percentage. 5th in steals for the Bulls, 1st in turnovers.
Rose is 7th on the Bulls for PER.
Rose might be the fourth best player on the Bulls, so saying third best is certainly something that can be said.
With no Rose for this game, Jimmy Bulter nearly had a triple-double, Pau got 30 shots.

drk3351ParticipantPau, Butler clearly better than Rose. You can also argue what Noah does is more valuable than what Rose is doing at this point (average efficiency scoring)

omphalosParticipantLet’s not dismiss Rose too soon, he still draws a lot of attention and is finding himself still.
Rose is going to be the best player on this team again, probably as soon as next season, or maybe by playoff time.
Bulls look pretty scary though.
Re Pau scoring that much though, thats what happens when teams don’t play actual bigs, guys like Pay can just feast in certain match-ups.

doubledribblerParticipantI don’t think people are trying to dismiss Rose, at least not the ones that have posted so far. I think everyone is just saying where they feel Rose stands right now. I’m actually fine with what I have seen from Rose so far, except for all the 3s he shoots. I don’t expect him to try to get to the basket all the time, just think he needs to mix in some mid-range shots which he is better at than 3s and is also going to help draw people to him on defense and open up the floor for others. In my opinion, if Rose can do what he has been at an efficient level this team becomes really dangerous. If he can get back or even close to the MVP level, which I’m not expecting this year this team becomes really hard for anyone to stop.
Pau was impressive. It was more impressive that he scored like he did and no one was hitting anything around him because it means he is playing with way more attention. He’s having a really nice year. It just shows how damaging bad coaching can be and what it can make a player look like. Just like Dallas getting lucky by not signing Deron Williams, the Bulls got lucky by not signing Melo or trading for Love. Pau and who knows how much of this depth doesn’t exist because of the high salaries.

Ghost01ParticipantAs a Bulls fan it is completely sensible to say that Rose is the 3rd best player on the team.
I’m not giving anyone Noah. Noah is a role player. What he did last year was great, but it was also overrated.
Rose has played below average in terms of what I think he can be for most of the season. He’s also had 3-4 games where he has looked amazing, and certainly flashes and moments of brilliance as well. Anyone who thinks he is going to be an MVP candidate again is being dilusional, they just need him to have an impact similiar to the one Tony Parker has given the Spurs the past couple of seasons. Be healthy, contribute when you can, have a few vintage games here or there, and take over in the 4th if your team needs you. He has been a very good 4th quarter player this year until his recent shooting slump.
The Bulls just need to be healthy. As long as the core of Rose, Butler, Gasol, Gibson, Noah, Mirotic, and Brooks is there for the playoffs, they are going to be extremely hard to beat. They don’t need to have a go-to-guy, they have multiple shot creators and a big man who can score at will down low.
Spectacular game by Gasol last night. He has been one of the best bigs in the NBA this year, for sure.

RUDEBOY_Participantanother stat from that game that stunned me was the combined 11-45 fg% the rest of the team shot….

HitsterParticipantD-Rose sat out his first game due to his knee issue for over a month and the fact that he had played a good run of games was a positive sign. Hopefully he’ll be back on court for the next match and continue his come back. He is still putting up 17ppg and 4,8apg, this is down on his career average of 20.5ppg and 6.6apg. But he is only play 29mpg this season compared with a career average of 36mpg so his form isn’t that far off.
Coach Thibs will want D-Rose at his best for the play off run so he will sit some games, likewise Pau Gasol will likely sit some games in due course.
Gasol was awesome last night and is surely an All Star lock, 4 years after his last appearance. He appears to be playing as well as ever and is the sort of finesse big man rather like Dirk who could continue to be an elite player into his late 30’s.

Ghost01ParticipantThe discussion around Rose’s tendency to attack or not has been interesting this year.
Some games, particularly against other top PGs, he has been much more aggresive. The stats also suggest he has been much more aggressive in 4th quarters. I am hoping that is a sign that in a playoff series that he will ascend to that level as well and attack the rim more often, but I guess we will have to wait and see.

HitsterParticipantWith the Bulls having a lot of scoring options D-Rose doesn’t have to carry the team put I agree there will be games especially in the play off when it’s down the stretch and you’d want D-Rose going for the basket like in his MVP year, I certainly want to see that again as a neutral.
