Josh has seemed to come a long way. A couple of years ago his highschool career began with being a 6’4 starter on the JV of his highschool team. The next year he got moved up to varsity and by the end of the year lead his team to a 4th place finish in the state playoffs and in the process making the all state team. As a junior he stepped his game up to another level to lead his team to a state title while winning Gatorade player of the year. During the summer before his senior year is when things really took off. He played for the mighty Belmont shore aau team and put in work at the pangos tournament. After that tournament bigger schools like USC,Oklahoma State, and Washington State started to take notice. Also during the summer he started working with former kansas pg Adonis Jordan and a Cali trainer who trains NBA players. He also played in open runs against NBA and college/European stars, with everyone of them saying he has definate NBA potential.

What was most noticable was his elite defense and rebounding ability(checking every position from pg-c very well)  Josh next big stage was in Vegas at the nationally aau tournament. He played very well the first couple of games averaging a double double as well as a couple blocks a game while playing small forward and shooting guard for the first time in his life, but his coming out party was against top 25 player Tony Mitchell and his Brandon bass elite team. Josh held Tony to 13 points while scoring 20points,grabbing 13 rebounds, blocking a couple shots and having the play of the game with a vertical dunk over Tony Mitchell. After that game Marquette, georgetown and Stanford joined in on the recruitment of Josh. As the summer ended many recruiting sites named Josh the suprise of the summer because of his out of nowhere introduction to the national scene. A couple of people (including coach dawkins who recruited grant hill) compared Josh’s game to Mr Hill When

Josh returned for his senior year he took his game to yet another level with his new found guard skills and again led his team to another state title and another Gatorade player of the year award. During the season he decided to go to Stanford University because of their great academics and basketball tradition.  Now the hard part starts. The competition is alot harder and the team is pretty young but make no Mistake Josh is ready and getting better every day. Even though he was the fifth highest ranked recruit on in the nationally ranked recruiting class he has earned his way into the starting line up for Stanfords first scrimmage against nationally ranked San Diego state

Hey Stanford Hoops what role do you see Powell having on this team, and how will it effect his draft stock.

He’s not a draft prospect this year. Right now he’s the 2nd big man off the bench
