Colorado has offcially joined the pac 10. Now the Pac 10 is looking at inviting Texas, Texas A+M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. From everything i’ve been reading on various sites and chat boards, it’s pretty much just a matter of time and we could litteraly see the big 12 gone within the next 2 weeks. One hold up is that the 3 mentioned texas schools have a bit of a partnership with Baylor and it is believed they are trying to present themsleves as a package deal, take all or take none. But the pac 10 says they have no interest in Baylor. The texas schools have sheduled a meeting for later this week to discuss plans going forward while the Big 12 president is saying he is trying to make sure the Big 12 stays together in some fashion.

The talk of the conference alignment if all 6 teams were to accept invitations to the pac 10 would be that it would divide into a west and east with 8 teams in each. The Arizona schools would join the 6 new big 12 members to form the east division with the washington, oregon and california schools forming the west division. It is also believed the pac 16 would ask for an automatic bid for both division winners.

What do you guys think about all this? Is it likely to happen becasue all the reports seem to think it is a done deal. Where does this leave Kansas, Kansas State, Baylor, Missouri and Iowa State?

this is takin all tha tradition from college football….it makes no sense y r they doin all this jus becuz colorado or nebraska leaves….those r tha 2 worst schools in tha big 12….tha big 12 jus needs to let colorado go n nebraska n pick up tcu n possibly another school…..n tha ncaa need to start takin geography in to account be4 they let these conf start makin decisons on there own….wat is tha pac 10 gonna b called cuhz its def not tha pacific nothin if this goes down….ur gonna put 3 teams that r national champship contenders every year n tha same conf….there jus gonna beat each other up….tha texas schools should stay aligned wit baylor so tha pac 10 can only take colorado n add tcu and another school to the big 12

i agree with you deezhood. i think 16 teams is just too many. Who knows, maybe it wont happen. Maybe the big 12 moves forward without nebraska and colorado.

The expansion makes it easier for K-State to make a run for the national title next year in basketball. Unless we end up having to go to another conference, because the expansion has caused so many teams to leave that the Big 12 may cease to exist now.

well, it’s obvious that this whole move is about money. the pac-10 wants to try to get a tv network deal like the sec has with cbs and the big ten has with espn and the big ten network.

in football, the expansion will not really change too much. oklahoma and texas will dominate. this couldn’t be a worse time for usc who just got a 2 year postseason ban. if texas and oklahoma join, the 5-star cali recruits will probably join one of those schools since they will get plenty of road trips home anyways.

in basketball, the expansion really doesn’t help the pac-10 anyways. the pac-10 has been horrible lately. the once highly ranked oregon, zona, ucla, and usc continue to struggle to land helpful recruits. washington will be competitive. texas should dominate that conference without kansas, kansas st. and mizzou.

also, just to note: ucla landing the wear twins is a horrible move. these guys remind me of james keefe. and they take up 2 scholarships and since they aren’t likely to leave early, those scholarships will be taken for 3 more years.

i think the real losers of all this will be kansas and kansas st. i haven’t heard anything about a move for these guys so i’m guessing conference usa might be there move. i think it may be hard to recruit bball players who want to play against top flight competition. i think memphis gets away with it because they recruit local talents.

who knows? i guess we’ll find out in a few weeks.

It’s for money, think of it this way..

If you’re in a conference where you a team like USC who is a constant championship runner, they actually have to split up some of the money with a school like Cal even though Cal is horrible in football.

Now if you have Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma St, USC, Uni of Arizona, ASU, Oregon, OSU, and UCLA, now you have ALOT more money going into that conference.

It’s all business, even if it takes the intensity of the game and other conference are now seen as weaker and less of a conference, it’s all about money.

I heard that the ACC, Big East, C USA, or even the mountain West as the probable landing places of the Kansas schools.
Baylor is prob headed to the C USA
    Iowa state same as Baylor.
Mizzou is talking with the big ten along with rutgers to make it the big 14.

Also. Why doesnt anyone think the mountain west should grab some teams and boise and nevada. And take the big 12 spot as a bcs conference? Just a thought.

O and as a Wisconsinite. Welcome to the big ten Nebraska fans, we may be boring to the rest of the nation but we have the best fans. Welcome.
