Dwight Howard is an elite talent..But he attempted fewer shots than any player that made any of the 3 All NBA Teams last season….A dominant & talented player like him should be taking more shots…And dont say he doesnt have any post moves brcuz he does..He just doesnt use them on a consistent basis..

Here are his Field Goal Attempts a game for his 1st 6 seasons…

    04/05-8.3 attempts a game

    05/06-10.7

    06/07-10.6

    07/08-11.9

    08/09-12.4

    09/10-10.2

I think Orlando can become a more successful team if he’s given at least 15 shots a game..I think the coaches did him a favor by playing Lewis at power foward,Lewis is a great outside shooter who takes the pressure off Howard…Playing a regular power forward will clog up the lane and give Howard less room to do his thang..

But people say its not the coaches fault Dwight doesnt get more shots, they say he can’t create his own shot like Shaq,Kareem or Garnett..Howard gets most of his points off putbacks & dunks….Plus he’s a poor..And guys like Nelson sometime chunk up too many 3 pointers amd fail to get Howard the ball inside..

I think that Howard needs to work on his passing along with his post moves because when the doubles come, and they will come, he has plenty of shooters to pass out too.

But I think that DH especially after watching the video below, should up his ante to the tune of 17-20 shots a game. Doing that will put him in the MVP race and if he can become that dominant Center on offense like he is on defense Miami will no longer be looking like a lock. And what if they pull a trade off for Melo. Do not sleep on the Magic or DH this year.

Gotta blame the coach and PG for not getting him the ball.  Enough with the 3pt shooters Lewis is ovarrated and so is Vince Carter.

I think we’re going to see improvement with Dwight this year. I thought he looked improved last night vs the Hawks.

He needs to sell his jab fakes more if he wants defenders to bite. His shooting release isn’t that high… He shoots the ball in front of his face and holds it a little longer than he should. I like that he’s working on his footwork and pivots though.

honestly the best person in the Nba with him i believe is Lamarcus Aldridge or Channing Frye, both are becoming a young Rasheed Wallace in there game not mentally, but they can stretch the floor out and give him some post relief on defense and offense

LOL the Dream can still ball I bet if they went one on high that the Dream would still school DH.  And Howard looks stiff working on them moves he needs to let them come to him more naturally like they do the Hakeem.

Like a previous poster said, he needs to take at least 15-20 shots a game. He is undoubfully a superstar and should be given more touches, because he can get easy buckets down low on dunks and putbacks. I also belive it’s SVG’s fault for not calling the right plays to get Howard the ball.

Its everybodies fault except for Jameer Nelson.  Nelson was an all star and is one of the better PG’s in the league.  Ask Ray Felton.

But its part coaching and its part Dwight Not Demanding the ball more.

There should be no doubt that if he went the SVG and said he is not happy with the amount of shots he is getting he feels like he needs the ball more; there is no way SVG don’t listen to him.  If Dwight wanted he could get SVG fired.  Howard is that franchise he will get what he wants in Orlando so you have to wonder if DH ust don’t want more shots.

i think 20 is a bit much. I think he should be more aorund 15. They have a lot of offensive weapons there and he also needs to focus on drawing in the defense and kicking it out better hten he does right now. Becasue lots of times he puts his head down and dribbles into traffic and gets stripped of the ball.

Dwight Howard has to demand the ball.. He is the Magics best player and if he wants to take to that next level he needs to be more vocal about his touches… Dude needs to get mean and play angry.. I dont know if thats his personality, he doesnt seem like the type of player that will take 20 shots a game… Hopefully some of that tutoring from Hakeem can translate in a live ball game..

I really do think Nelson is part of the problem. He is not a very good passer and he doesn’t really get Howard the ball in a good position to score. I like Nelson, but he is not the type of point guard I want on a championship caliber team, he scores and shoots pretty well, but he has average vision.

Im Your Father….Jameer Nelson is the starting PG on a championship team and despite the fact everybody remembers Derrick Fisher hitting like a 30 footer over him in the Finals what they don’t remember is that he was playing hurt, rushed back from the injury, and SVG just through him into the line of fire despite not being anywhere near healthy and it was obvious because he knows how much Meer Meer means to that Magic team.  And Nelson hit 2 big shots before he let Fisher hit that 3.

Jameer Nelsons game is hard to describe because you are right it seems like he don’t have court vision and he does not get a lot of assists despite playing on a team with a bunch of shooters and the best Center since Yao Ming’s Foot.  But what Jameer Nelson does is win.  He’s sorta like an Andre Miller type PG.  When Miller was considered one of the best PG"s in the league and some still consider him to be one, Miller never averaged over 6 assists either.  But he would manage the team, know exactly when to take shots, and make sure his team was always running like a fueled machine.

Last Year in the Playoffs Nelson averaged 19 points, 5 assists and shot 47% and 40% from 3.  Compared to DH’s 18 PPG.

Nelson is a fantastic passer and has great court vision he just never uses it because he is a turnover efficient PG.  He won’t force passes that the defense is anticipating or take risk with the ball unless its a sure thing.  Plus he is such a deadly long and mid rage shooter it spaces the floor for DH and his penetration creates open shots for the Magic.  Nelson’s assists total could easily be 7 plus per game but when he drives and dishes the Magic will usually swing it around the perimeter for an even opener shot thus negating his assists total but be the reason the defense is broken down.

This is all on DH.  If DH got good position on the block and calls for the ball Nelson will get him that ball.  Nelson was won everywhere he went and he still plays with a chip on his shoulder.  He was the best PG in that 04 class and anybody whoever saw him league St Joe’s to that undefeated season knew he was.  A lot of people are going to think Devin Harris is but when Harris played on a winning team he couldn’t get off the bench and hasn’t done much in the way of winning leadership in Jersey yet.  Telfair over Nelson?  Thanks to Nelson talents like him won’t fall in the draft because of size anymore hence the reason DJ Augustin went 9th.
