Let me start off by saying I am not a Magic fan but their draft really intrigues me. Obviously last year the showed that they are willing to pick their player at any slot. I’m not saying AG was a huge reach but many people assumed Exum was going to be picked. This year a similar situation could arise. I believe if they land #1 they will pick KAT and run AG at the 3 more often. But if they don’t land the first pick it gets interesting. They have built their team with defensive minded players besides Vuc and if they believe AG can be a full time SF Porzingis feels like a really good pick. Otherwise Winslow fits their team really nicely and for some reason I wouldn’t be surprised if they fall in love with Stanley Johnson he just feels like a Hennigan type player to me. Thoughts on how you view the way they have constructed their team and what would you do if you called the shots?

The backcourt of Payton and Oladipo is probably the worst shooting duo in the league. I’m not sure why everybody thinks Winslow is such a good fit, but never even mention Hezonja? Hezonja is the best shooter in the draft. Anyway, KAT and Porzingis would be their top two options. Myles Turner will get looked at. Can somebody tell me why Orlando would take Winslow over Hezonja?

the only way i see them taking winslow is if they think they can pull off a team like the 12-13 nuggs. they were a team that finished 57-25 based on perimeter defense and transition points. besides gallo, nobody on that team was known for their shooting abilities.

i really think porzingis is the best fit for the team. allows gordon some flex to play inside and guard sf’s. his size and length is a tough matchup for any wing.

Magic are an interesting team in that the personel they already put their stock into are special in the sense that you kind of have to build around them. Payton is a PG that can’t shoot, so you either have to play uptempo or surround him with shooters like Boston did with Rondo. Vucevic is good on the block, but has trouble playing the PnR, so you want someone who can excell at help defense and weak side defense.

I just don’t see how Porzingis or Winslow help one of these players while not hurting the other. I think the poster who said that the Magic are trying to replecate the Nuggets of a few years ago is spot on, as I’ve made this comparison many times in the past. I think Gordon needs to play like Farried, and just be a high energy/rebounding machine, and with Olidipo and Payton the Magic should be the fastest team in the league, and look to score in transition as much as they can.

I like their combo of Payton/Olidipo/Fournier on the perimeter, and think Gordon/Vucevic/Frye is a decent place to start in the backcourt. What this team really needs is a solid glue guy at the 3 to bring this all together, so I think they should ultimately go with Winslow. He fits well with what they are trying to do, and would give them a big body to throw at the better SG/SF in the east. I also think he’s going to become a capable 3pnt shooter in time, and the Magic need that. If they are nervous about him, then they might look to move down in the draft and pick up Stanley Johnson and another piece.

I think the pick will be Porzingis though. I see him as a capable scorer, but he needs to improve that D. If he does, and can become that weakside defender they need, than maybe he is the best pick for them. It doesn’t hurt to swing for the fences, and I feel like the Magic are looking to hit it out of the park with this draft and end their rebuild.

First off, I think Porzingis helps both the problems you stated. He can stretch the floor for Payton and I’ve heard he is a pretty good weak side blocker (just poor down low man to man defense) that will help Vucevic.

Also, Hezonja can play both wing spots, shoot, handle the ball, is athletic, and has some pro experience. I view him similar to Winslow but actually rate Hezonja better, but it’s close.

In the end, I can see KAT, Porzingis, Winslow, and Hezonja being good fits for their roster and one of them will be available.

Also, what happens if the land the 2 spot (with KAT being gone) or 3 spot (with KAT and Okafor being gone)? Will they be pressured to take Russell even though they have their future backcourt already?

there are rumors of Porzingis going in the top 3, the magic could be one of the teams looking at taking him in the top 3.
