JoeWolf1Didn’t get a fair shot? He’s just a classic example of a guy who should have staying in school for another year or two to work on his game.

SupParticipantDidn’t get a fair shot is correct. But that’s the politics of the game. You have to ride the wave. He played his cards right in high school and thus he was rated as a top guard in the land. So the politics worked for him back then and the politics work against him now. Atleast he plays for a living.

sheltwon3ParticipantI agree he should had stayed in school another year. he came out at the wrong time and paid the price. Sometimes it is all about timing.

JoeWolf1There are a lot of McDonald all-americans with big fan bases and cult followings that didn’t make the NBA for reasons other than they got screwed out of it. He scored in high school and college because he took enough shots, but he had a pretty terrible shot and shot selection. To his credit he had very good court vision and was a good passer, but I think if he would have stayed in school for at least another year or two to work on his shot mechanics he would have had a longer career in the NBA.

Mr. 19134ParticipantYeah but his game is about as refined now as it ever would of been in school.
I don’t understand why a team won’t take a chance on him.
And James White is another guy I don’t understand how he aint in the league.

mikeyvthedonParticipantThat pass at 1:17 was great, but I agree with previous posters, Omar did get a shot, I do not think it was politics. Omar was shooting worse than Brandon Jennings rookie year in the NBA in college, plus had nowhere near the quickness and athletic ability of Jennings. For instance, Omar would never have scored 55 in an NBA game, he just did not have that potential. Definitely was a good player, fun to watch, great passer, but the PG position is honestly the most competitive position there is. They come a dime a dozen as far as skilled PG’s, and the separation may be minimal, but in the long run it is based on consistent performance, and Omar just did not seem to make the cut. Khalid El-Amin got cut shortly after he had made the rookie/sophomore game just because that even with his numbers, he was not performing at a level that made his team competitive in the NBA. It just happens that way, and Khalid was a much better college ball player than Omar. So, he is a legend in your mind, maybe in the minds of a select few, but to say he did not get his chance and to put him with the streetball legends of the past, just is not incredibly valid.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantWhy would anyone assume that there is politics involved in him not getting another look? He took a while to figure it all out, but he took the money in Valenica. If he chose, he probably could have gotten on a summer league and tried to play his way back into the league. Pooh Jeter and Will Bynum took that route. He chose his path, I don’t see what is unfair about how it has played out.

Mr. 19134ParticipantOmar Cook does have uncanny point vision. Khalid was more of a short chubby scorer then a pure PG.
Cook can shoot a lot better not then he ever could. I dunno if he has a spot in the league but with his passing ability he will always have a spot somewhere. And he does know how to make his teammates better.
If Cook could become a very good defender he would certainly be somebody that I would want on my team.
Cook always lead the D-League in assists when he did play down there.

Lotto StudParticipantCook is a classic version of a player who had the TALENT to show promise but got JERKED.

stanford hoopshe came out too early. he had his shot and just couldnt make it. hes a better player now and could probably make it as a third string liek a coupl other point guards but there are so many younger point guards out there with potential, he might not get another shot. thats why its always smart to come out when you have a good shot at making it because you dont get too many chances
