No its absurd to compare legends who were true all around players and all star as soon as they got in the NBA to toadays players who usually take years to develop and even some of todays all stars are either elite offensivrly or okay offensively and elite defensively not too many all around guys who will be legends in todays game.

Cmon now. Bill Russell wasn’t a good offensive player. Oscar Robertson couldn’t dribble with his left hand (really,  saw some replays of his games and his handles were cringeworthy). Also Jerry West and some other greats. And if you look at vintage NBA games of the 70s, man the defense was mad atrocious. True all-around players as soon as they entered the league?? Don’t give that bull.

Please don’t assume the players before were way better than players now because you hear it from those ignorant internet warriors. I don’t know why sometimes it’s taboo for some people to compare players of the past to players now. You’re immdiately met with a reply of "Kids these days don’t know", blah blah blah. Give the young guns a chance. I would say the 90s and some players of the 80s are the players that are most comparable to today’s game skill wise.

Russell Westbrook – sports science and $20 million a season – Oscar Robertson. I’m not comparing them. I’m just saying a great player then would more often than not be a great player now.

= Oscar Robertson.  Nothing harder to work out than an incomplete maths equation.

Whatever bruh, you may have the plus differential, but anyone who begged me has to be young, you watched clips I have watched whole games, I don’t need to rely on the word of others so let’s get that out the way, plus I was talking about mostly the 80s&90s. What players in the today’s game ate truly comparable? So what someone only dribbled with one hand? Only thing that matters is can you stop it. Bill Russell.maybe wasn’t the most elite offensive center but he impacted winning more than most in the history of basketball point blank. You said also jerry west, but didn’t say anything after that, so what your knock or maybe you had nothing else to say.

Either way you put it bugs were better. Drummond, Howard, DJ, can’t shoot free throws, and have horrible post games. Boogie has all the talent, but is lazy and doesn’t always play with his team. cool if a big can shoot the 3, but shooting36-38%,from 3 still isn’t as effect ive as a big who us dominant down.low and cant be stopped even with double teams, shaw, the admiral, hakeem, kareem, ralp sampson, pre injury, malone, barkley. Curry is horrible on defense. Russ and kd only pass when someone is wide open or coming down the court when the shot click is at 20 then if either of then get the ball back they shoot it even if there is 15 seconds left, plus Westbrook 3% is below average. Lebron has choked so many times that the debate he could still pass Kobe, mj, bird, magic, or Duncan is still laughable to me. Harden plays no d & is super lazy unless be has the ball. How many guys are great offensively but are horrible on d, so team have to hide them in today’s game. How many 1st round picks over the last 5-6 years have played right away.

To be honest I could give 2 fucks who agrees when I speak only the truth guys were better then and ball.movement was better overall. Now its mostly whose best player can be the most explosive& creative out of the pick and roll. Coach pop even said the same thing, so I will stick with my opinion especially when it falls in line with the thoughts of the best coach in basketball of the era, whose seen more than 1 brand of basketball in person, not clips like you, or old game footage like myself.

I would say Kawhi is the best all around player in the league. Except for the fact that we dont know if he can bring up his game in the clutch

Fans of oldschool ball would love Andrew Bogut’s play tonight. Getting inside the head of Howard and the Rockets, making the other team react. For the youngins who were wondering…that is what oldschool basketball was about. Trash talk, physical play, bullying.

If someone was seen doing a Russell Westbrook dance pre-game, someone like Bill Lambeer would make sure they ended up on their ass in the first quarter.

People will look at the score and think its all in vein…but Bogut knows what he’s doing. Twitter has gone mad…"Bogut is so dirty…Bogut is trash…"

If he’s inside the other team’s head for the rest of the series, it’s only going to make it easier on his team-mates because any energy that is wasted focussing on him is energy they’d be better off diverting elsewhere.

Plus, you know he’s not going to lose any sleep worrying about it.

    ———————————————————-

Here are a few old time players that compare at least superficially to players from the modern era:

    Dolph Schayes – Dirk Nowitzki

both tall PFs (both were the same height as centers from their respectable eras) that were unstoppable scorers and had outside games that were rare for players of their size. Dirk has his unguardable step back jumper, Schayes was known for his high arcing outside jumper reffered to as "Sputnik".

    Jerry Lucas – Kevin Love

Both terrific rebounders and very good outlet passers who can/could stretch the floor. Lucas obviously didn’t take any threes but his outside shot was deadly.

    Walt Frazier – Gary Payton

Both about the same size. Terrific defenders, also good passers and rebounders who could slash to the rim and score at a high rate too.

     Just thought of another one:

    Connie Hawkins – Blake Griffin

Both power forwards with terrific athleticism and leaping ability. Both can also handle the ball and are surprisingly good passers for their position.

Love the Connie Hawkins comparison.  Was one of the first guys to really play above the rim.  Could have been an all time great if he wasn’t robbed of his prime years and black balled by the NBA.

Bill Russell’s basketball IQ was through the roof. Sure, he never really developed a great scoring arsenal, but he was a terrific passer, and heady defender, with great timing and dual hand shot blocking ability. The way he blocked shots into fast breaks was no coincidence, plus he was a 6’9” high jumper in college back when they did the scissor kick (which is easily equivalent to over 7′ using today’s technique). He was a tremendous all around athlete and smart ball player.

He’d probably be more like a prime Joakim Noah than anyone playing today, but of course Russell was a better athlete, quicker, a better shot blocker and would have been equally if not more a terror defending off pick and rolls.

I also feel in the modern game he would be a monster, with Draymond Green getting as much buzz as a small center, I feel Russell at 6’10” capable of guarding 3 positions at an elite level and being a outlet passer and passer out of the high post and on the break, he’d be dominant today as well.

If DeAndre Jordan is a 13 ppg scorer in todays game, then Bill Russell would at least be a 17 ppg scorer who would also probably be grabbing 13-15 rebounds, dishing out 4 or 5 assists to go with 3 blocks per game, great OVERALL defense and the ability to lock down multiple positions.

Just watch old film, and don’t focus on the differences of the games now and then, focus on how he moves, his body control, and coordination paired with how agile and quick he was for his size. If Bill Russell were born in 1995 people would be drooling to draft him.

Thanks Wiz Kid… I didn’t know some of these players so as they were drafted I had to look them up.
