Michael Qualls is being signed to a 1 year deal with the Thunder.  I’m glad that somebody is giving him a chance while he rehabs from his acl injury.  The tweet also mentions he has tears in both knees which I hadn’t heard before.

I read this too but to be honest I can’t believe it.

I posted about Qualls injury here when he got it in the Suns pre draft workout and felt really sorry for him but first of all the Thunder don’t really have a roster spot open and secondly why sign him if he won’t play at all since he still has a torn ACL IF i’m not mistaken?

I know Ridnour has again been dealt and that could have opened a roster spot for Qualls but I don’t get it if this is true. Sure the Thunder could still need a backup SF since they went PG in the draft but I would rather see Huestis making the team than go after Qualls, at least at the moment.

He will probably *officially* play in the DLeague even though he can’t play for awhile. You can have more than 15 players signed, they aren’t considered part of your 15-Man roster if they’re in the DLeague or in Europe. When a team is at 15 and wants to bring a player from the DLeague they use something called a "call up" but at the same time they have to send another player down, the Thunder do this often. As for stashed players in Europe, the Thunder still have like 4-6 guys in Europe, so they technically have around a 20-Man roster.

However even with all of that said, this is still a head scratcher since it will take him probably that entire year to even heal up, if not more. Maybe they just really like him so much that they don’t want to give anyone else a chance to even snag him up, and after the 1 year contract is finished they will have the chance to resign him when he’s actually ready to play.
