I think he can be a really good player. I think he needs to get to the line more (like Badger) and he needs to develop that 2nd stat and develop more leadership.

I feel if Memphis can add 1 more post player…they can turn it around

borderline all-star. He will average 20 and get his teammates involved. He has all the tools on offense, but I wouldn’t neccesarily call him an elite level athelete. He tends to settle for tough shots when he can’t break down the defenses.

I feel like he’s a LOT like Kobe except for the fact that he doesn’t have Kobe’s size and athleticism… which contributes a lot to Kobe being arguably the best player in the game.

but as far as work ethic, i think they are similar guys who are obsessed with being better than everyone else. I think they also watch a LOT of film on other guys because they wanna know what every player can do so that they can add it to their game as well.

and, yea, like ll said, they love taking tough shots, because they know they can make them, even when that shot is not necessarily the high%.

I think OJ will be a perennial all-star, even if he doesn’t necessarily deserve it, because we’ve all heard of him FOREVER.

boarderline allstar?..not that athletic?..you do know he said oj mayo right?…of course he has flaws now he only just completed his rookie year. hes already a boarderline all star and he isnt even close to his prime

I think he will be a allstar this year and average 25ppg. Hes is much more athletic than hes given credit for and has a Kobe like work ethic. Imo he will be a 2 inch shorter Kobe.

I’ve watched plenty of OJ play, and when I say borderline all star, I mean he will make a few be candidate year in and out, but not an automatic selection ala a Kobe or a Lebron. I never said he was not that athletic, those were your words. I said he was not necessarily an elite level athlete. And I’m making that comparison with some of the elite wing players and gaurds in mind. I don’t see him getting the type of seperation from his opponents on a regular basis that the elite guys get. He often settles for contested shots and floaters around the rim. Guys like Rose, Westbrook, Kobe , Lebron etc etc that I consider “elite” level athletes can pretty much get whatever they want when they are being gaurded one on one. This will take a little from OJ in my mind since he is also gonna have a size disadvantage against most gaurds. I wasn’t trying to rip on the guy, I just don’t think he is gonna be a hands down perenial all-star in this league.

I’ve been really high on OJ for a while now, but i wish memphis would play him at point guard. I remember reading about him in high school and people said he was a taller/more athletic version of Billups, so i would like to see if he can play the point in the L. However if he stays at shooting guard i still think he will be great and eventually a top scorer in the league

ihwo can rose and west brook be considered elite but not oj..he gets whatever shot he wants just as much as those 2 do..hes actually a better scorer then either without being the main ball handler like thoses 2. rose actually has more work to do on his offense and defense then mayo since he has the same trouble that rondo has when a team decides to shut off his drives to the lane..actually he has the exact opposite problem that oj has since mayo settles for jumpers while rose tends to try to force the issue too much with drives..the difference is when mayo sets his mind to it he can get to the lane but rose jumper is still horrible

well don’t get me wrong, I love OJ’s game. Being from southren cal, I watched most his games at USC and on league pass with Memphis. Maybe I’m just nitpicking what I think will hold him back from being truly great, because he obviously has all the tools as far as skills. But I just think he does’nt have that extra explosive gear that some of the elite athletes have when it comes to blowing by his man. There were actually a number of los angeles journalists that pointed this out as well. When you are a 6-4 shooting gaurd, it is very important to be able to get seperation from your defender, and while he does a good job of it, I don’t see him breaking down elite defenders on a regular basis.

He can become an all-star, but I think his ceiling is more of a Joe Johnson type, wich would certainly be very good. I was just kinda pointing out what I think will hold him back from being truly elite.

i respect youre opinion but i have to strongly disagree..i watch him constantly on leauge pass this year and he gets very good seperation. the problem he seems to have is knowing when to take it to the whole because he does sometimes settle for the jumper..i have to agree with time grover on this when he says that he is a elite player and athlete and his work eithic is the work ethic that great ones have. with long arms and a 41inch vert and side to side speed at 6’5 as well as a very good defender i think his ceiling is alot higher then that of joe johnson… but only time will tell which one of us is correct

I feel Mayo has alot of talent offensively and is a great defender so I think he’s a future all-star. He reminds me of former Kstate Wildcat Mitch Richmond. He’s a good shooter with average/slightly above average quickness and good strength. Also, both were good defenders.

He will have a career like Ray Allen. However i see him in LA by the time he is 25 to “try” take the mantle Kobe had. I think he will be a frequent All-Star and will be a Top 5 scorer in the league also.
I hope he does go to Lakers so that i can see Bynum and Mayo go up against Gordon and Griffin what an amazing match-up and all in the one city.
