Anyone listen to Odd Future? They’re a group of teenage rappers from L.A that are getting a lot of hype right now. Being 17, I love seein dudes my age being successful.
They’re not for everyone though, they talk about some sick stuff like rape and such, but it’s mostly for shock value.
When they’re serious though, they’re very good and extremely creative.
Check out Tyler the creator and Earl Sweatshirt. Earls got ridiculous flow, and is 17 as well. Tyler has a crazy distinctive voice. They have so much potential.
Anyway, any one here down with the wolf gang?

I can’t believe the hype on these guys. Lyrically they bring nothing to the table, and just talk tough and cuss, skateboard, and wear SUPREME clothing. I’m from California (San Francisco), and find these guys to be garbage.

what happened to so called hip-hop, instead of the real, gritty hip-hop based on sampling and ill lyrics we have a bunch of FAKE rappers that are straight up trash. people like this disgust me.

    I love these kids.

You can hate on their music all you want (I can understand how people would find them to be weird or disturbing) but you can’t deny their authenticity.

They genuinely DO NOT GIVE A F#*& what people think and that’s the main appeal behind them.

I also love Tyler, The Creator’s humor and dark lyrics a la 1999/2000 Eminem, although the lyrics can get over-the-top at times.

Yonkers is taking the world by storm.

Tyler’s new album comes out in 2 months.

    FREE EARL btw.

These kids have a ton of talent. Lyrics, flow, beats son. They have it.

Their kind are nothing new. NWA were doing the same thing 20 or so years ago, and their also from LA. Give me some substance as far as music goes. I can just go down my block and listen to local thugs speak about hardcore subjects, this OFWGKTA are the same as everyone else with some NWA influence.

As talented as the members of NWA were/are, I’m not a big fan of that comparison, and honestly, I don’t see a valid comparison for Odd Future.

NWA and many other gangsta rappers went out of their way to show how hard they were or how dangerous they were.

Odd Future doesn’t give an ‘F’ about that ish. They don’t care what other people think. They’re not trying to look hard or gangsta or cool or anything like that.

They say and do crazy and bizarre ish but that’s more for their own amusement.

Tyler, the Creator and Earl Sweatshirt have about as much core confidence as you will ever see. There’s a lot to learn from these fellows.

Ofcourse NWA and Odd Future sound nothing alike, their music is separated by atleast 20 years, but their culture is the same which is California Hardcore/gangsta rap, and if your from out here, you would understand. Back then, gangbanging were the culture for young people in Cali, now skateboarding has sorta taken over is a new culture here not just in Cali but everywhere else. Basically what Im saying that even tho NWA and Odd Future has no similarities music wise, their culture and subject is very much the same and it it’s all Los Angeles roots, and majority of it is ignorance, violence, and lack of respect for anyone. If you want to glorify that kind of hip hop to each his own I guess, but I find it garbage.

I see what you’re saying but I don’t think the culture comparison applies here.

NWA cared what other people thought of them and made a concerted effort to try to show how they didn’t give an ‘F’.

Odd Future just doesn’t give an ‘F’. They don’t have to try to show it…cuz they don’t care what others think.

    You smell me?

It’s like FAKE TOUGH vs. NATURAL TOUGH.

Lyrically they bring nothing to the table? You obviously haven’t given them a good listen if you say that. Yeah sometimes they go over the top but you cannot deny they’re talent. They’re straying away from the norm. Tyler has undeniable charisma and if you watch their viral videos you’ll see how hilarious and creative they are,

Free Earl, Litter Life, OFWGKTA DGAF
    And F**k Steve Harvey

You guys must be retarded. You have no clue how the music industry works at all my friend. THERE IS NO SANTA CLAUSE! These crappy rappers are just another product of a simple producer, or record labels free time. That dont give a F image is just that, a created image. Comparing them to NWA is a crime…Im sure if you go to the hood you would get messed up for saying that, especially in LA. I look at them and I see a group of attention craving kids, who need a good disciplining by their parents. These guys are not NWA…they look like their from prep schools. They say some real gay stuff and are definitely not "Hardcore Gangsta Raps New NWA" They arent unique its the same garbage, recycled, with alot of cussing sprinnkled ontop.

The reason Im so motivated on exposing these fake musicians because I am a musician, and I know to make good music is what musicians are supposed to do. It takes time to make good music, and it takes effort. These guys are not making good music, they are making videos and acting stupid thats how they get people to like their music, which makes no sense. Its a slap in the face to all the practicing, training and repitition a real musician faces.

I ain’t a hater but this shiot is straight garbage.  Exactly like OhCanada says, if u don’t think they tryin to play off this image, u need to wake up.  Its pricks like this that i would love to lay out.  I seen cats like this at like the grocery stores n shiot dancing around tryina make a scene n get attention.  All they want is to be seen.  They are like 5 year olds with an expanded vocabulary.  Dudes like this couldn’t get a job at Mickey D’s actin like that n yet they pullin out million cuz some people think their music is dope.  Their music is garbage.  lyrics blow (just a bunch of cussin and sayin how cool they think they are, how they dont give a f**k, and how they gettin p****y), beats are pulled straight off my laptop.  These tools r a joke.  And a comparison to NWA ludacris.

You guys need to listen to more than 20 seconds of Odd Future.

Their lyrics are actually very well crafted.

They are extremely talented and intelligent.

I think people equate weirdness and vulgarity with a lack of talent…that isn’t the case at all.

I’m doin’ Big Style Willy couldn’t touch 11

    Seven. What’s religion ni**a? I am Legend
I roll with skaters and musicians with an intuition
    I created O.F. cause I feel we’re more talented
Than 40 year old rappers talkin’ ’bout Gucci

When they have kids they haven’t seen in years, impressin’ their peers
With the same problem, the only way to solve them
Is to go to Father’s Day convention with a gold revolver

Life’s a salad I’mma toss it eat that sh*t up, Rick Ross it

    If that’s not talent…

Dale knows what’s up. If you have an open mind, listen to Inglorious, it’s is his best song, you guys don’t know the true emotion that this dude puts into his work. His first album Basturd is basically a concept album about how his father left him as a child and he basically paints a caricature of his anger and despair into the music. He’s talking to his "therapist". There are some juvenile moments within the album (Tina), but as a kid I love it. You have to remember their half the age of most of those legends like Hov and Em. If you don’t like them, at least try to appreciate what they’re doing for hip hop in an age where our generations "best" product is Drake.

^well put OhCanada, music is all about gimics and image.  These guys just want to play that game too, is there anything scary about Marilyn Manson in real life? No, he’s a well spoken nerd who figured out a way to make a lot of money by appealing to the goth crowd.   I don’t see much different when I listen to Odd Future’s lyrics, I just don’t buy what they’re saying, its a gimic.

If Tyler and Earl weren’t weird then you guys would be riding their weiners.

    Whatever, it’s fine.

I’m sure Odd Future doesn’t care. They knew going into this that their eccentricity and vulgarity would turn off a lot of people.

And just cuz u aint into these dudes dont mean u like Drake or that Young Money trash either.  Cory Gunz is the only respectable one outta em for the time being, but i bet he falls apart to since signing wit them.  Hiphop fuckin suck for the most part.  I’ll still get down 2 immortal tech, MF Doom, Atmosphere, Beast 1333, JMT/AOTP, D-Block, and some other underground shiot, but today’s hiphop is mainly trash.  Like I’ve said b4 leave me in peace wit early 90’s late 80’s hiphop.  Back when 2pac, Nas, Nate Dogg, Biggie, Big L, Big Pun, the entire West Coast was all bumpin.  Fuock all this gay tight jean wearin, white shades, ass showin pricks who claim they make real hiphop.

No they sound like Lil B turned into a rapist, why would anyone want to listen to that? Like you must be itching to fit into a crowd, and have some serious individuality issues if you have to listen to someone say "My bit sucks dick like she sucks dick" over and over as a chorus. The music sounds like it is for overprivileged kids who think they are cool by acting out and being disobedient. What is the meaning of their songs, what is the message they want to send to their listener? Even if they are just talking about money, hoes, or trap life, wheres their lyrics, they sound just like Lil B, who sounds like a retarded Gucci Mane, who already sounds a bit retarded.

This is what I listen to, listen and truely tell me these songs arent better then any Odd Future songs. Dont be shy take a listen, maybe youll like it and agree with me, mabe you wont and it renforces your taste. i listened to yours and felt its disgusting thats why I wanna show you there is much better things for you to listen to instead of fueling your mind with garbage. I was gonna grab you a list but I changed my mind and feel its a waste of my time. Go find real music by yourself.

    You wanna see talent…

Yeah they said that the success of my music was theoretic
But my revenge is sweet enough to murder diabetics
Eugenics, Procter and Gamble, credit racial science
Couldn’t produce a more progressive intellectual giant
Nephilim bury em with the bullets left in em
My heart is blacker than the children of Thomas Jefferson
Blacker than back in the days of the tar and feathering
The cancerous endocrine, the ego that’s American
The hatchet and the sticks, the fascist emblem
You can call it conspiracy theory
I don’t give a mothafuk, you could get your mother f***ked
    National security’s a codeword for cover-up
Hold that down, I look at character, never let the colour get to you
I got white revolutionaries like Muslims in Chechnya
Percussion dumping like the Russian Mafia over you
But even they know what it’s like when you’re fighting for svoboda
So whether Slavic or Islamic, vodka, gin, tonic
Drunken fantasies are cool son but here’s the grim logic
You niggas want to play industry and start to be rich
Until they f***k you for millions like Paul McCartney’s b****h
My lions live inside a box like Jumanji
Sikh nigga status stab you up like Indira Gandhi
So never desecrate the space on which I meditate
My thoughts rip through tank armoured metal plates
It’s thought to resonate to the spot where Moses caused the sea to separate
The place that the prophet Mohammed started to levitate
The exact moment that Jesus rose dead awake
And Siddhārtha became the Buddha that regenerates
Half a bar over but I bring it home colder than dead soldiers
Soul-controller, holder of knowledge so f***k Dianetics

That song is a gimmick, it’s by jasper dolphin, he knows he can’t rap and he’s just in their crew for sh*ts and giggles. That song is obviously bad. But your ignoring the fact that these guys are talented. If you don’t fully understand something, how can you really criticize it?

I like you, Canada, but judging by your posts, I’m almost positive that you have never heard more than 10 seconds of an Odd Future song.

Their lyrical content is far deeper than just talking about money and hoez…

And they rarely even talk about those two subjects.

And saying "they sound just like Lil B" proves to me that you have either never heard an Odd Future song or stopped playing it after a few seconds.

Their music is absolutely nothing like that of Lil B. You can’t even call them a "rapist" version of Lil B b/c they are that much different.

Listen to a few songs from beginning to end before you forge an uninformed opinion.
