Lotto StudParticipantOak Hill is like the most prestigious school for HS ball around the country. Coach Steve Smith, has done had just about every top notable prospect to come through there from Melo to Jennings. I would like to know how does he go about getting players to come there to ball. I’ve once heard that he does not recruit players, that they come to him. I don’t know how true it is, but how does a player who wants to play at the highest level of HS ball get into Oak Hill, because I know anybody just can’t get in there. Another thing is if Oak Hill is like the best school for ball on the HS level why did KD & B-Easy transfer out.

LeroyJenkinsParticipantI remember one prospect site years ago mentioning how either Durants or Beasleys grades were pretty damn bad before arriving at OHA but were excellent once they left

Lotto StudParticipantIt should be damn near impossible to have piss poor grades there.
- All you do is school & ball
- You are in the middle of west bubble f*ck VA where there is only 1 traffic light in the whole town….so what does that tell you
- You can’t get no p*ssy, because they are not co-ed doorms….They will give you the BYU treatment
Excuses are like a**holes & everyone has one, so I would like to know KD & B-Easy excuse for having piss poor grades if that is true.

WizardofOzParticipantI’ve been wondering the same thing. I was like "He isn’t allowed to recruit right? Then how does he get so many good players?" I guess players just wanna play for Steve Smith. I don’t know what the requirements are to get in though. I heard it’s a pretty small school with about only 100 students.
And I saw this comment on YouTube that says why Michael Beasley transferred.
"Yea Beasley went to Oak Hill for a year and then got kicked out.. Him and Ty wanted to leave a legacy at Oak Hill and while they did it on the court, they thought it would be a good idea to leave it around the school too… They started writing there signatures on everything from desk to boards to walls.. Beasley took it too far and wrote on the Headmasters car and got kicked out."
Not sure if that’s true though.
I don’t know why KD transferred. But they both transferred to good basketball programs in Montrose Christian and Notre Dame Prep.
But it still ashames me that Gary Williams can’t get any of the players from the DMV. The DMV is one of the biggest basketball hotbeds in the country. SMH

The lake show2Players family’s call or aau coach calls pretty much like any other h.s and you either get accepted or you don’t. They have a varsity squad and " super" varsity squad. Some players go there and still cant stay on the straight and narrow( K.G, Beasley)

WizardofOzParticipantThis is the only footage I could find of KD at Oak Hill. Still got that babyface lol.

cap777ParticipantI think the title of most prestigious basketball school goes to St. Anthony’s.

Lotto StudParticipantThe first time I seen KD play was Oak Hill vs St. Patricks. He was rocking the first Melo Js the baby blue & white instead of orange & white. Boy you could tell Oak Hill was nowhere near the city because KD’s head had more peas then Del Monte. Also that game he was playing against Derrick Caracter & an unknown HS Fr. prospect by the name of Corey Fisher who was on my watch list after the game. I forgot how much KD dropped on them, but what made me know that he was the real deal was by the way he ran in transition. Back then my comparison for him just off looks alone, because of his frame was Darius Miles.

fai714ParticipantBob Hurley has led St. Anthony to another title and first ranking against a St. Patrick team that was supposed to be unstoppable. Oak Hill puts out tremendous NBA talent, but when it comes to winning on the high school level, St. Anthony is the best.

The lake show2Either St Ant’s, Oak Hill or Dematha. I think Oak Hill has the most titles though. At least double what any other school has.
These prep Programs do’t have to go recruit these kids the kids recruit’s the schools. Ive had 2 teammates and a brother inquire about going to Oak Hill, Oak Hill only contacted them after they contacted Oak Hill. So no it’s not common sense that they recruit thats just people who assume without finding out for sure how players end up going to these schools

What was the word they had received from trying to get into the school? Did they have a chance to talk to Steve Smith?

joecheck88Participantfindlay prep in nevada looks like they are on their way up as well. im for these prep school because it seems like they help keep the kids mostly humble and out of trouble and show them how hard you have to work.

The lake show2only one of them was accepted the other was only accepted to play regular varsity. Smith only talked to the one who would have played on they super varsity ( i think its called something else but since i can’t remember i call it super varsity).
Now back in the day before they became a power it is possible that they recruited a couple of players since they weren’t well known at the time, now there name alone recruits players

Lotto StudParticipantThanks man, I’m trying to get my lil cuzzo to get into a prep school his 9th grade year, because the public schools here in VA are not what’s happening on the basketball tip. He already has the experience of playing with better talent from AAU & all he does is eat sleep sh*t ball because he has a father like Jesus Shuttlesworth.
