Do you think we see a franchise try to compete with GSW and Cleveland as the most loaded teams in the NBA?

Personally I think the team with the best opportunity to achieve that is Boston. If they put together a package of say:
    Bradley, Crowder, Rozier and 2017 1st round pick for Paul George or Jimmy Butler;
then use their cap space to get a FA like Hayward or Griffin you would have a team of guys hitting their prime at 27-28 years old who could be a legit threat for the next 5-6 years.

On top of that they could potentially keep Brown, Smart and the 2018 Nets pick so they still have a future once those guys are done.
#1 – Thomas, Brown, George/Butler, Griffin, Horford or
#2 – Thomas, Hayward, George/Butler, Defensive minded PF (like Taj Gibson), Horford
Either of these teams could truly compete to get out of the East immediately and then turn into the dominant force and as mentioned would still have Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart, Kelly Olynyk and 2018 pick of the Nets.

The dream scenario for Boston is to land a top FA and keep 3 out of remaining Brooklyn picks, Rozier, Smart and Brown after trading for a possible want away top player. I think that this is doable as they have guys stashed, their own picks and could give up possibly 2 out of 5 listed above. If a team has a top player who may well indicate they are looking to move on then what may look like a low ball offer considering their assets suddenly looks good.

I’m intrigued by them landing a top FA with the idea if they add say Fultz and another top prospect next year, then FA has a much bigger title window. A bit like if Cavs had kept Wiggins when King James returned. One is the man at the moment with say Thomas but a few years down the line after developing say Fultz becomes the man and top FA becomes quality supporting vet.

I could see them trading I.T, for a allstar caliber center if they draft Ball  or more than likely with the #1 pick be smart enough to draft Fultz over Ball where they could also invest in I.T. beyond 2018 if they like Fultz along side the allstar they have or let I.T. walk after next season and go forward with Fultz.

If Ball is the pick I.T. is likely traded before the deadline feb. 2018. (next season)

      as they could not coexist.

next year before the deadline I.T. a 2nd rounder and benchers to detroit for Drummond and a future. Drafted Fultz or Ball

Its just LeBron and Kyrie are that good.  Love is a role player on that team as is everyone but the aforementioned.  They start an undersized 4 at center and the balance are cast offs – its a true testiment to how good James and Irving are that they have been able to flip the switch come playoff time.  Honestly as great as he is, I still think James is under-appreciated

I will go with the Lakers. More likely to sign a guy like Paul George.

And I can still see one of the Clippers stars switching locker rooms.

Plus they have some nice young players and a possible top 3 pick this year in a loaded draft at the top.

Ideally, the Celtics would get a first rate wing player in Jimmy Butler who can score AND defend. They would STILL need another guy — I don’t think they have enough assets to trade for TWO high level all stars… maybe they get Butler without trading the Brooklyn pick and then go out and sign 2 high level starter types.

What the C’s should do is try and get one of these stars but keep their top prospects (Smart, Brown, picks).

The Cektics would have an easier job putting together a super team if they didn’t pay $30 million per year for Al Horford.

Philly could be if they all stay healthy, find a few more players to fit with Simmons and Embiid, and do the draft right, but I think their window would be more towards the end of Golden State’s and Cleveland’s so they wouldn’t be competing as much as they’d be taking it over

Although, super teams are almost impossible to predict. Steph was the 7th pick, Klay was the 11th pick, Draymond was a 2nd rounder, and KD pulled a move that most people thought no one would ever do. There’s no way anyone could’ve predicted in 2012 what they’d become, so for all we know Aaron Gordon and whoever the Magic get in the Draft could end up making them a super team

Celtics will never be able to make a super team as long as they have a 5’8 defensive liability as one of their best players. I love IT and everything he does, but any good team will just abuse him on the defensive end of the floor. You can get away with hiding him against lesser teams, but who does he guard when we play the top 3 teams in the league (CLE, GSW, and HOU)? We would get roasted in 5 games even if we added a player of George’s calibur.

If they do get Paul George, I would honestly consider bringing IT off the bench as a Manu super sub. He would never do it, but it’s the only role he will have on a championship winning team.

You are also out of your damn mind if you think we would trade AB, Crowder, Rozier and a top 4 pick for a 1 year rental of Paul George.

Maybe Crowder, Rozier, and the 2018 Nets and Celtic pick, but no way is a player with 1 year left on his deal worth that much, especially when IND would have a hard time finding a team that would even come close to that offer. George is gone, that was clear the second it got leaked that he didn’t get All-NBA. you don’t gut your team, trade your best contract, one of your best prospects, and a top 4 pick for a player that might not even move the needle. We’re not the Knicks.

I would rather hold onto the pick, sign AB and IT, and just watch my team treasmill until the young guys are ready to take over. I much rather go into 2018 with a roster of:

    Horford- Zizec

    Olynyk- Yabs

    Crowder- Brown

    Bradley- Smart

    IT- Ball/Fultz-Rozier

And look to improve through FA, or trade the Nets pick and Marcus Smart for an upgrade at PF than do what is being suggested in this post. Celtics are still two pieces away from making noice. Gutting your team for PG13, and we’re still 2 pieces away from making noice, except we’d have half the assetts to get their.

There is way to much speculation right now.

I think the Spurs have the best chance to actually make this happen.

Despite Parker and Ginobli probably being done, I think if the names mentioned above really want a title, they will consider San Antonio in free agency.

If they can get CP3, which makes A LOT of sense and either Paul George (pretty long shot) or Gordon Hayward (also a long shot), that team becomes STACKED.

CP3, Kawhi, Hayward/George, Aldridge, Simmons, Mills, Gasol, Bertrans, Desmond, Lee, etc. And that roster could truly compete with anyone.

You just casually added two top-10 players in Cp3 and George. Aside from that being farfetched, there are plenty other teams that can add those two guys and still become legitimate contenders

It’s not as farfetched as you think.

Would anyone have ever imagined Durant joining the warriors? Steph, Klay, and Draymond being top 15-20 players at least, and then adding a top 3 player in the NBA in Durant? Many said that wasn’t possible, but now we’re watching it.

Players want rings. And those guys (CP3, George, and Hayward to a lesser extent) have lost quite a few times to the same teams (the Warriors and the Cavs). By now, they must be thinking, "How can I get by either of these teams without joining them?"

So before you say something is so farfetched, look at the two best teams in the league and tell me how "farfetched" their rosters are.

The team with the easiest road to a super team without bringing in current allstars is the Timberwolves if they can keep thier roster in tact.

If they land Fultz or Ball this year they will get a couple of ring chasers to go there on the cheap after the next couple seasons and could be a legit contender.

They are only 2 yrs away from a 2nd round exit.

the next teams with plenty of trade chips are the Suns and the Celtics.

The only other teams that could be 1 high draft pick away from a potential superteam are the Sixers and the Lakers both of whom have the ability to attract a big name player as well.

Boston certainly has the assets to make something work if they can line things up right.

If they can swing a deal for George and sign a guy like Griffin, you’ve got a team that can compete in the East.

And they’ve got the assets to go make a trade for George.

Brooklyn 17, Brooklyn 18, Bradley, Crowder, Brown, Smart, Rozier – all assets that you can potentially move.

If I’m Indy, I want that Brooklyn 17 plus Brown and maybe Rozier. If Boston could attach Zeller to that trade, they basically wouldn’t be taking on money in that deal because George isn’t on an enormous contract by the new standards.

I’d want assurances that he’s interested in staying though if I’m giving away that much for him but at that point, you’ve got something cooking.

I do not expect Boston to be successful trading their pick in the lottery this year if it drops out of the top 3,at least not to Indy They would have to give up minimum crowder smart and jerebco’s expiring along with the lottery pick just for salary to work and I doubt Indy would do it anyway.

They might be able to pry Griffin from Clippers along with crawford if they are willing to give up Horford and Brown, but that doesn’t seem like a win for Boston.

Griffin is a FA isn’t he? Doubt he’d go to Boston – but he’d be a great fit with that team.

Yup Griffin is a Free Agent as is CP3. Clippers good very well go back to the bottom of the league where they use to call home.

I don’t see why Griffin wouldn’t entertain Boston he would be going to a legit team. Other options for him would be OKC or SAS, but my dark horse is Lakers if they get PG13 this summer
PG and Griffin could be the start of something for the Lakers to become competitive again they’d need to find another All-Star talent and then I’m sure they get those guys on the cheap that will fill the role player spot and make them a threat.
