Charlie SheenParticipantWhat do you guys want in the new cba
I want a football style hard cap with non guaranteed contracts and cap holds no franchise tags also a 3 year rule for college kids along with each team having its own d league affiliate so they can develop their own players

The White MambaParticipantSomething to leval the playing feild. I’m not a big fan of super teams. Make it so the smaller markets have as much as a chance to win as a bigger markets.

raybeasParticipantsignatures on the bottom.
A soft cap, up to 125% max with a 95% floor for the cheap teams. Five year max, 80% guaranteed contracts. Bird rights for teams to keep their draftees. Two years post HS for entry, or 20 for internationals.

andxxxParticipantWhy would you want a hard cap? Do you truly believe a hard cap levels the playing field?

akhan786ParticipantI’d rather have an option to declare for the draft after highschool or wait two years if you sign your LOI.

aamir543ParticipantI think education is really important, but making kids like Josh Selby and Jereme Richmond waste a year of their lives…………… I think the system is flawed, so I think they should abolish the one and done rule, and just let them come out of HS.

Malik-UniversalParticipantu actually make a pretty good argument for that actually aamir^^
i think the main reason the league disallowed highschoolers was to raise the ratings of the college game…
but hey….. thats just me… theres always gnna be busts whether they come out of highschool or declare as college players….
granted, who knows what kind of player jr smith wouldve been if he wouldve gone to college or d-miles, kwame brown, curry, etc… these guys wouldve made more of there careers possilby…
however, u look at a guy like selby or jereme richmond who didnt benefit at all going to KU for selby and richmond for illinois…. selby this yr got injuired, lost PT, and lost his confidence and got drafted in the late 2nd round…. richmond didnt get drafted…both of there stocks wouldve dramatically increased if HS players were allowed to enter…i know selby for sure

Charlie SheenParticipantI wanna see deeper drafts more mature players that’s the reason why the NBA is losing money they get stuck paying these young kids and we get Eddy Curry’s and Kwame Brown’s I’m sick of it
Also education is more important I don’t wanna see these guys going bankrupt I want everyone to have a back up plan look at Dajuan Wagner

andxxxParticipantWhat I don’t get about ppl advocating that guys need to college is that college will improve them as ppl. Do any of you guys pay attention to the NFL? There are plenty of knuckleheads and busts in their league and they’re required to stay THREE years! I guess I’m not one that feels the longer you stay in college the more mature you get of course ppl will naturally mature that’s just a fact of life that will be that way college or not.

JNixonParticipantYou think Selby and Richmond wasted a year of their lives, imagine how much time would get wasted against NBA competition. That’s how I see it. I hope they don’t allow guys to declare from HS.

aamir543ParticipantBut it works both ways, imagine if they let Oden declare in 06, maybe he wouldn’t have all the injuries, but some guys do need seasoning in college, and for a guy like Joakim Noah, It’s a good thing he stayed that extra year. If he entered the draft in 06, he would have probably gone number two to Chicago(The bulls traded the pick to Portland on draft night) Do you know how disasterous that would have turned out, it’s good thing he went ninth where he belonged and was given an extra year or two to develop.

ForTheWinParticipantI agree that small market teams need to be able to compete against the powerhouses that most plyaers would prefer to go to(Lakers,Knicks,Etc…). I think the age limit should be dropped to 18 and that players can go to the NBA once they finish High School- my reasoning behind this is that guys in college who dominate are going to be in hell after year 2 in Charlie Sheen’s proposal. It would make the league more competitive but also look at the fact that records would than be very very hard to break, being that players would enter the league around age 21 or 22. I’m also hate the idea of elimaniting teams or amount of games per season- that would be a tragedy!

aamir543Participant@JNixonIggy9, look, they didn’t accomplish anything in college, in fact took a step back, selby doesn’t even know if he’ll make a roster or get a check whenever the season starts, and Richmond doesn’t know if he’ll ever smell an NBA court. If they had entered out of HS, than Selby would have been a lottery pick and have been dubbed one of the faces of a franchise, and Richmond would have at least been drafted.

raybeasParticipantHAD to go to college, just that they be two years removed from HS before they enter the NBA. They can go overseas or to the NBADL. College is not for everyone. Dont go if you dont want to. Be a man and earn a paycheck playing ball if you can for two years, then apply for the NBA draft.

HitsterParticipantMy personal favourite idea would be a player can be drafted from HS or has to go to college for at least two years so then only the very top players can be taken into the NBA at 18 allowing those few players an early way in. Colleges get all players for two years so they have more continuity.
Also no 2nd round players can be signed for more money than the 30th draft pick that year.
Make it easier for top players to reach the top of the salary scales so teams recognise talent and only award the highest contracts to the best players.
The players apparently offered a 46-54 split to the owner’s 50-50 wish so if they could get to within a point or two then a deal will be there.
Maybe the players offer 1% of all existing contracts back for the next couple of years, this would rebase the contracts but allow the players to keep the vast majority of money and the owners still make a decent saving
