How do you think the Knicks would fare this season?

In short I will think they will do better than last season at least because they have more "triangle friendly" players to their roster but will still be the bottomfeeders of the Eastern Conference.

Here’s my article for my full analysis

I don’t think Triangle friendly matters, but genuine NBA talent does.  They had almost none for much of last year.  Starting real NBA players helps.

They had geniune NBA talent(J.R., Iman. Melo) at the beginning of the season and they were still struggling mightily. It helps that the players they have now both fit the system and are actual NBA caliber talent.

The Triangle offense is literally the same as the Princeton, except the PG goes away from the Ball in the triangle and in the princeton the pg goes to the strongside creating backdoor cuts or pick and pull action.. I laughed at the term "triangle friendly" players because there is no such thing… What the triangle offense does require is lots of time for players to learn different sets, due to the fact the offense is considered a reactionary offense and lots of the sets are based off what the defense is giving you throughout the game… Players just need to watch a lot of film and get reps in to understand the triangle.. Its a tough offense but very rewarding if your team sticks together multiple years

The Knicks – if they stay healthy – are going to make the playoffs this season.

They have almost an entirely new starting lineup when you consider Melo missed most of the season, they have a rim protecting big man again, an experienced wing defender, some young legs and they got rid of the cancer that is JR Smith.

Plus, Jackson is going to take more of a hand with assisting Fisher, so that can only improve.

Also I wanted to add..most of the additions to the knicks are mostly geared towards Phil Jackson philosophy on Defense and not his offense.. Phil Jackson loves size and traditionally has a lot of it.. his teams are historically great at protecting the middle of the paint… Hence the reason why he picked up so many bigs, what I love about his pickups is all these forwards and centers compliment each other very well and gives fisher different looks to play on defense.. Also dont be surprised if Fisher flirts with the idea of Kristap playing alittle bit of small forward.. This would give the Knicks a mammoth Defensive front that Jackson loves to play

And as a fan I just luv watching him… Derrick Fisher was an incredible PG – so I think he’s going to be a great coach, Phil is obviously a Legend – here comes the But… I don’t want to criticize or put a damper on anyone’s excitement – but the Knicks are in a really tough spot – I know that Okafor would have been the perfect fit for them – he is so strong & he sets up so deep that he forces a double team on every play… Still, with Okafor off the board I think I would have drafted Mudiay – he’s a franchise player, people forget how young these guys are… Still, I like porzingus, I like what they did getting grant later in the 1st round but b/c they do not have a 1st round pick next June they are really stuck in this limbo where Phil knows that rebuilding is the right path but what are they supposed to do? So they signed a few middling free agents who I believe they are Not tied to long term so hopefully they can have a decent year this year while Porzingus & Grant develop – They acquired some nice Draft picks from Cleveland so I think the more interesting question is what do they do After this year??? Do they trade Carmelo? They could get a really nice haul of Draft picks for Melo – so what do you guys think???

I think Porzingis is a major cornerstone player and the future of the franchise. Knicks will probably be competitive this year, and even better going forward.

People just assume Porzingis is strictly a center, because he’s 7’3, but I think he’s a perfect fit next to Robin Lopez, much like Aldridge was a perfect fit next to Robin in Portland.

Porzingis might be less agile than other PFs, but he’s got 6-8 inches of additional length, and he’s a smart player who can move efficiently, cut off angles, and contest every.single.shot.

The average PF standing reach is 8’10", and Porzingis’ is probably 9’7"ish, like Rudy Gobert.

People think he won’t be a great defender right away because he is skinny, but these are the same tards that didn’t see anything special about Rudy Gobert.

"European? White? Skinny? Yawn."  – tards everywhere

Ok scratch what I said about "triangle friendly" what I meant is they did not have players with the patience of running a structured offense. Players like J.R. Smith did not fit that mold, Iman Shumpert has became a little less disciplined on the offensive end over the years and is pretty streaky when it comes to his perimeter game. I agree especially with the acquisition of Jerian Grant is that the roster was built primarily for the defensive end.

Since they failed on trying to acquire a big name signing, they done well to get a roster similar to what Phil Jackson/Derek Fisher wants in terms of philosophy. They are going to be at the bottom of the Eastern Conference yes but they got a good track for the future provided if Porzingis develops.

Melo is a tough shot maker, which is a very valuable skill, but more valuable are guys who exceed at creating and making easy shots.

The Triangle plays to Carmelos strengths, the Triangle is great for scorers.. It allows them to see multiple options to score or create.. He just needs to really love basketball cause its a high IQ offense I believe 100% that MJ and Kobe have strikingly similar games because the Triangle gave them exactly the same options on offense.. The Triangle offense definitely helped them both mature as Basketball players.. I think Melo is past the age of getting the most out of it.. But the triangle will definitely improve his game.
