As part of three-team deal, Nene goes to the Wizards, JaVale McGee to Denver and Nick Young to Clippers, sources tell Y! Sports.

According to Sekou Smith, The Wizards send Nick Young & Javale McGee to the Nuggets for Nene, and then the Nuggets send Nick Young to the Clippers for Brian Cook and a draft pick.

I only like this move for the Wizards.  Nick Young shoots too much, yeah, they gave up Brian Cook, who is absolutely terrible….so I guess thats the bright side.

Nene’s contract was pretty high and his production has been slipping.

Mosgoz and Koufas has been playing pretty well so I think they will let Mcgee go and they got a 1st rounder out of the deal.   Remember Denver is deep and they just saved a ton of money for a player who they overspent on and really did not need as much.  Denver will look really smart in the future especially if they can sign and trade Mcgee but I don’t know if they have his bird rights.

Who do the Clips give up?

And man, this trade deadline got fiesty quick! I feel like teh Chris Broussard of my school, maliciously looking up news in class, and eating Poptarts under the table. Ah the life.

Not sure what these teams were thinking though, expecially the Wiz. I guess they’d rather have Nene’s contract than lose Javale for nothing.

sheltwon, you make some good points.  I was mainly shocked because Nene just got that deal.  I thought their direction was pretty good.

"I don’t see why the nuggets make that move…. the draft pick is great but mcgee ?"

They didn’t want to pay Nene $13 million dollars per year through 2016. McGee and Young are both free agents at the end of the season.

Nene is definitely an upgrade over McGee, but Washington just committed a LOT of payroll for that upgrade. I’m not sure it was worth it.

    Interesting trade.

aamir, the Wiz can afford to take on the contract, but my question is, why the hell didnt they amnesty Lewis?

Love it for eth Nuggets. Sure you aquire a knuckle head, but you save cap and get a younger core, albiet it be an expensive core, amaybe this frees them up to pay Chandler now. Like the direction Denver is going in, don’t like it for the Wiz, the Clips are going all in, but not sure a shoot first black hole is the answer, but Young is a solid scorer nonetheless.

I don’t know about this move for the Clippers. They got Nick Young for nothing so I can’t complain. However, I don’t see how Young will help that much when they already have Mo Williams, Caron Butler and Randy Foye. He doesn’t play defense and he’s a knucklehead.

We would’ve been under the required cap room, but my question is can you use it every year I don’t know the rules of it?

If so we could amnesty him and find a suitor for Blatche and have plenty of cap room for something else…

Faried basically took over Nene’s role. I like this deal for the Wizards mainly because it helps Wall.

This is a great trade for Denver. McGee is young and healthy, played all games this season and has more blocks and rebounds than Nene while not being far behind him in scoring. They instantly have the BEST rotation of bigs in the NBA hands down. McGee stupidity will not be tolerated with a team ready to make some noise in the playoffs. I thought I was getting a treat watching daily Faried highlights for Denver, McGee + Faried with a George Karl system is going to be scary.

I am missing something here….if the Nuggets were willing to give up Nene…for a player who will have an expiring contract…that they likely wont resign anyway….why couldnt the Magic get in on this deal?  I know they dont have much that has a lot of value, but Ryan Anderson is expiring right?  I mean would bringing a guy like Nene who can play PF to Orlando bring optimism for Howard?  And if Howard still decided to leave you have guy who can still play PF or C?  I havent analyzed in depth….just wondering why a lot of teams are getting busy except for Orlando.

The development of Kenneth Faried has perhaps made Nene expendable and Denver save a load of cash by moving Nene. At worse Denver can let McGee move on and if anyone could improve McGee’s game then Coach Karl could be the guy and in also getting Turiaf they have another high energy frontcourt defender. Denver may not have a star frontcourt player now but they do have huge frontcourt depth now and amuch lower salary level going forward with Gallinari’s extension due to kick in and Ty Lawson to be renewed shortly.

Nick Young gives the Clippers another scoring option and for a win nowteam giving up a dud contract in Cook and a pick is a fair price.

Washington would have had to look at renewing or moving McGee on so taking on a solid veteran C in Nene is a fair move, they have no cap issues and can easily amnesty Blatche or Lewis in the summer. Also getting a future first rounder gives GM Ernie Grunfeld future drraft options. Nene also gives John Wall a proven quality running mate and with another likely high pick due this year, the Wizards have moved their rebuilding on a fair bit today.

I feel like they could of gotten more for the two talented ‘tards.  Nene as a player is a nice pickup and I’ve always read positive things about his attitude, but that contract is A LOT to take on if you are as bad as the Washington Wizards are.

McGee was rumoured to be after $14 million a season and even if you take a more realistic line at something like DeAndre Jordan’s 4 year $42 million deal then for a flat $13 million a season Washington have Nene so the upgrade has maybe cost them say $3 million a season. Also as APB says above Nene has always come with a good reputation after several years under Coach Karl so should also bring Washington much required locker room leadership.

very agree with hitster…. mcgee will aske for big money and will surely be overpay.

I’d rather overpay a smart player and man like néné than overpaying an unsteady teen like mcgee.

Totally agree with you JYD, in Nene they get a proven guy and we know that Denver will not overpay for someone like McGee. I wonder if McGee should maybe take a one year qualifying offer in Denver, spend a year with Coach Karl and his staff who have always developed decent bigs and see if they can knock his game into shape. The guy has the talent but just lacks an oncourt brain, I don’t see McGee as a bad character type player just a bit of a knucklehead.

yes he could be a force if correctly managed.

playing next to faried, afflalo, brewer, andersen chandler (?) should help him develop his defensive awareness and overall bball IQ…. but it should take some time and they don’t have.

I don’t think he will extend for less than 11 M% and I"d rather give 13 to néné than 10/11 to mcgee.

I could see Blatche being an amnesty case ahead of Lewis as with that expiring deal he could be trade bait and I seem to recall reading that not the whole 20 plus million is guaranteed so he could be brought out seperately and would probably be picked up by a contender for his 3 point shooting and experience if he was fit.

Having a level-headed veteran presence like NENE may actually benefit Blatche. Bother are terrific passers for big men and could potentially mesh well together. Some of NENE’s work ethic may rub off on Blatche and help him get his doughboy ass in basketball shape.

Nice trade but Nene isn’t even close to a top 5 center in the league.

D12, Bynum, Gortat, Noah, Monroe, Gasol, Chandler, Jefferson, and Hibbert, Horford, maybe Duncan, maybe Lopez, and maybe Bargnani if he counts.

Nene is a solid player but by my estimation he’s not even a top 10 center in the game.

Clips win this one big time btw.

They need a scorer on the wing and they got him.

Nuggets didn’t want to pay Nene, they might resign Mcgee anyway they have Mozgov, Faried, Koufas.  Also wilson Chandler is rumored to be signing with them.  Birdman is there as well and they extended Gallo soon Lawson will get paid too.

Good move for the Wizards they need a solid big man.  Wall will finally have a big man who can do something on offense.  Great move by the Clippers also.
