jaysmith1987ParticipantI believe New Orleans Should pick Alex Len. From what we know Grevis Vasquez can dish the rock and he can give you 11 ppg. We also know that Eric Gordon and Ryan Anderson can shoot. The problem is Anthony Davis isn’t a center and Lopez isn’t a starting caliber Center so why not take Len and have him and Davis as your dynamic duo down low and take a pg in the second round like a Isaiah cannon who can fill in for the short comings of Grevius Vasquez. That sounds better to me than having Burke and Vasquez and then you have a starting caliber backup and a back up caliber starter in Lopez.

GottaBeTheShoesParticipantI agree, plus as well Austin Rivers has decided he wants to focus on being a PG rather than a combo guard, so there PG position is pretty solid now.

SiggyParticipantRivers trying to be a PG means absolutely nothing if he’s trash at the position. His transition to the point would probably look like OJ Mayo’s failed attempt to transition to the point, except worse. His instincts are very poor for the position.
I don’t think Vazquez is the answer long term either. GV’s exceeded expectations, but he’s too slow (takes him a while for him to get his team into sets, so often times he just keeps the ball in his hands), not a good enough shooter and too TO prone. He’d make a nice stopgap for their future starting point though. If Burke’s there, they shouldn’t pass him up. Otherwise I’d go C, to put some beef and physicality next to Davis.

GottaBeTheShoesParticipantSiggy, please just don’t reply to anything I say. You’re very intelligent about basketball (more than me), but you ALWAYS talk like you’re right. I merely just stated that that’s what Rivers wanted, I wasn’t talking about whether he could do it. Not only that, but I was saying they should go with their biggest need as this draft isn’t strong and so they shouldn’t go for a PG when they already have a decent one.

SiggyParticipantI’m gonna go ahead and reply anyway. Rivers wanting to be a PG doesn’t address their LT PG spot.
If Burke is at or near the top of their big board, they shouldn’t pass over him because of Vasquez. If they believe that Vasquez is the LT (I’m talking at least 4 yrs) answer for them at PG, then by all means, they should go a different direction.Do YOU believe that Vasquez is the LT answer for their PG spot at 26 y/o and up for an extension after this next yr? To me they’re in a perfect position to grab a PG if available because Vasquez can be the starter his last yr while the rookie gets acclimated, then GV can be used as trade bait as soon as the rookie is ready to be handed the keys.
To me, NOP passing over Burke because of Vasquez would be like the Bobcats passing on McLemore or Oladipo because of Gerald Henderson (I know, he’s RFA, but you get the picture). IMO, teams should strive for more than decent at each starting position.

FutureNBAGMParticipantLen would be a good pick, but last I checked they dont have ANY small forwards since Aminu is a UFA and may not be back so they could also takeMuhammed or, more likely, trade up to get Porter.

B-ball fanParticipantAs a rookie, Len will probably not be better than Lopez. I think they definitely should take Trey Burke if he is available. Vasquez’s contract is up in a year and he will be up for a big pay raise. Burke will almost certainly be the BPA if he falls to them and could be their pg of the future to pair with AD.
If Burke is gone, then I think Zeller should be the pick. He is much better than Len right now. I think the fact that people have watched more of Zeller than Len gives people the impression that Len has higher upside, which I don’t think is the case. Zeller has his weaknesses, but athletic 7 footers with outstanding college production, great motors and room to improve don’t grow on trees. If Len had his weaknesses nitpicked as much as Zeller has, he would not have the hype that he has.

slepchorParticipantEric Gordon will probably be gone, but I too think that they should draft a capable big (Len, Zeller or Adams) to complement Davis in the post. With a dynamic duo inside and Vazquez at 1, they can’t be that bad.

chris_wuzhereParticipantMonty has said that Vasquez has empty stats in a lot games because of the system they run. It’s so PG heavy that any backup PG can look like a superstar in it so Vasquez’s job isn’t safe. The pelicans will probably go with the BPA that fits their defense first system, and they’ll also consider who they can get this summer. Pekovic is supposed to be high on their list, along with Jennings and Evans, and the Pelicans have the money to pay any two of them. Also there are a number of available SFs this summer like Brewer, Budinger, and Dorell Wright. So any need can be filled in free agency. As a Pels fan I hope Oladipo falls to six or we trade the pick for other assets (more picks later in this draft or in future drafts or a young player).

chris_wuzhereParticipantIf Len and Burke are the only options you have to take Len. 6’1″ scoring guards are readily available but 7’1″ two way centers are not. Both have their weaknesses but I think Len has the higher reward.

ItsRainingNegsParticipantHe’s a big bodied, 7foot, athletic PF/C. The league is going small ball and he can run the court. I don’t see how they could pass on him.

jtcluegiverParticipantI highly doubt Alex Len is available at pick 6. There aren’t many 7 footers as offensively skilled, mobile, and athletic as Len. He should be taken #3 by Washington if they are smart.
I’m not trying to draft Trey Burke in the top 6 if I’m their GM. So assuming Len and Porter are gone, then who?
Do they take Bennett or Shabazz? or someone else?
